Creating a chart or graph in Numbers is a great way to display your data visually. And Numbers offers several different types so that you can use the best style to show your data. One of those types is an Interactive Chart.

An Interactive Chart in Numbers is convenient for displaying groups of data for comparison or changes over time. Your data stays intact, and you simply adjust the chart to show it differently.

Create an Interactive Chart on Mac

Like the other graphs and charts in Numbers, you can insert a blank chart and add your data to it later or select your data and then insert the chart to populate it. From experience, it’s easier to start with a data set, select it, and build your chart from there, and that’s what we’re going to do in this tutorial.

To easily see how an Interactive Chart can be beneficial, we’re going to use data for product sales over 12 months. This will let us use the chart to view each month’s sales, one month at a time.

1) Select your data set by dragging through the cells.

Tip: It’s good to use the Chart button in the toolbar here because you can see the options and color schemes rather than the menu bar option because that just gives you a list of Interactive Chart types.

3) Choose the type and color of Interactive Chart you want to use. You can pick from a column, bar, scatter, or bubble chart. And you have six color schemes for each, which you can still change later.

4) Your Interactive Chart will pop onto your sheet populated with the data set you selected in Step 1.

The key to an Interactive Chart is its name, it’s interactive. So you’ll notice at the bottom of the chart you have a slider and buttons. Using these controls, you can move through your data set displaying different groups or in our case, each month of the year.

You have the option to use a slider with buttons or buttons only to control your chart. These options can be found in the Format sidebar, which we’ll discuss next.

Format your Interactive Chart

There’s a healthy number of settings you can adjust in the sidebar like style, colors, controls, corners, gaps, background, border, and chart type.

Let’s take a look how we can change our column chart.

Just by changing things like the chart colors, font style, controls, corners, gaps, and adding a background and chart title, you can make your Interactive Chart look exactly as you want.

Adjust your data display

If you want to change the data that displays in the chart, for example, maybe you want to remove a certain series from the chart, this is simple.

You can also reverse the data. For instance, you can have the data from your rows and columns swapped using the Plot Rows/Columns as Series settings.

Create an Interactive Chart on iPhone and iPad

It can be a lot easier to work with charts on Mac, but if your only Apple device is an iPhone or iPad, not to worry! You can create an Interactive Chart on iOS and you have the same types of formatting options as macOS.

1) Open your sheet in Numbers on iPhone or iPad and tap the plus sign at the top.

2) Select the second tab for Charts and then choose Interactive.

I don’t know about you, but I’m really enjoying the new features Google Analytics added in the last upgrade. We’re all familiar with the standard dashboard where you can see at a glance all metrics for your website, but the default settings might not be exactly what you need to measure for your particular website. Here we will show you how to create custom dashboards for your exact analytic needs so you’re measuring and tracking only what is important to you.

Log into your Google Analytics account and open the Home tab. The Home tab is where you can see several new analytic options, including Real-Time reporting and Custom Dashboards. As you can see in the image below, the default dashboard has sections for measuring things I don’t use-like Conversions and Alerts. That real estate could be better utilized with metrics I need to see and measure. The same is probably true for you as well, so let’s see how we can make this a little more user friendly.

Dashboard Options

In the left sidebar, select the New Dashboards tab. A window will pop up allowing you to choose a Blank Canvas to create truly custom dashboards or you can choose a Starter Dashboard which will give you pointers to get started with customizing your dashboard.

Create A Blank Canvas Dashboard

A Blank Canvas dashboard is an excellent place to setup metrics to track your ad campaigns and other marketing strategies. The custom dashboards feature allows you to create up to 20 different custom dashboards so you can create as many or as few as your site requires. You’ll be able to see the results in a glance and all of your dashboards are accessible in the left sidebar for quick reference. To get started, select the Blank Canvas option and you’ll see the widgets window pop up allowing you to create specific widget sections for your dashboard. Starting with the Metrics tab, you can select one of many metric options to target specific goals for your site. Basically anything you can measure in Google Analytics can be set as a metric.

Once you have all the widgets you want on your dashboard, you might need to move them around to place them in order of importance or make comparing two metrics easier in a glance. all you need to do is simply drag them where you want them placed for better viewing.

Create A Starter Dashboard

If you’re new to Google Analytics or aren’t sure what metrics you need to track, using a Starter Dashboard will help you get off on the right foot. The Starter Dashboard is pretty much the same as the default dashboard with the added feature of creating widgets to make it semi-custom. If you like the default settings but want to add specific widgets to it, this template is for you. You can keep the default page the same and add specific dashboards showing just visitor metrics, and just content metrics for easy data analysis.

Create a new text file anywhere on your desktop.

Open the newly created text file and write the ASCII command of your choice and save it.

Next, open HyperTerminal.

Name the HyperTerminal session and set the following:

BAUD rate 9600

Parity to ODD 

8 data-bits

1 stop-bit

No Flow Control (when the COM Port setup pops up).

In ASCII Setup, check the Echo Typed Characters Locally option.

Go back to the main HyperTerminal window.

In the HyperTerminal window, go to Transfer and select Send Text File.

Select the text file you saved on desktop.

You should see the command and the response in the interactive portion of HyperTerminal.

5. HyperTerminal not receiving data

Make sure you have configured the flow control in HyperTerminal correctly.

If the issue persists, run the tool in debug mode and check if the print functions are working correctly.

6. HyperTerminal not taking keyboard input

HyperTerminal by default has disabled Echo Typed Characters Locally feature.

If HyperTerminal is not taking keyboard input, check if the feature is disabled.
