Suggested January 2024 1Password 6.2 For Mac Adds Automatic Login Naming + Upgraded Data Importer

The latest update to 1Password for Mac, version 6.2, adds a couple of minor but useful enhancements to the desktop experience. First, intelligence behind the automatic login and password filler is smarter in the new version, which means using the keyboard shortcut or browser extension to fill in your info will fail fewer times. The database upgrade also means that naming new logins will be easier as 1Password will be smarter about guessing what website you’re new login is for.

If you’re new to 1Password or setting up friends or family, 1Password 6.2 for Mac also includes a more intelligent data importer for users moving from other password management apps. This follows the introduction of new features like 1Password for Families and Teams, which are also improved in this version, as well as 1Password mini for the Menu Bar on OS X.

Check out the full release notes below:

What’s New in Version 6.2

The New Tricks Edition

You know what they say. “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but you can teach password managers new things.” We totally agree with that last part. Over the years, we’ve released many dozens of new versions, hundreds of betas, and approximately a gazillion improvements! That’s a lot of changes, and we’re not about to stop now. Without further ado, we present 1Password 6.2 for Mac: The New Tricks Edition.

== More studying, bigger brain ==

Some of the coolest tricks 1Password performs, like automatically saving Logins or filling information on websites, come from the browser extension and the brain that powers it. Every once in a while the brain would come across a website it just didn’t understand. That’s when 1Password wouldn’t fill your information accurately. In an effort to improve, the brain sat down and studied all sorts of websites, and now its guesses are more educated than ever. As an added bonus, 1Password will now try to automatically name the Logins it creates.

== First-class importing ==

Thanks to 1Password for Teams and Families, this is the sweetest time to try 1Password, especially if you’ve been using something else to safeguard your digital life. Our latest upgrades to the importer make it super simple to import your information from another application.

We’ve also improved the way 1Password for Mac and Families and Teams (oh my!) work together, the way 1Password mini behaves, and more!

We value your workflow too much to prompt you for a review. If you feel generous or have a couple of minutes, please take some time to leave a rating and review on the App Store. It makes a huge difference to us. Thank you so very much.

We love hearing from you! Get in touch with us at chúng tôi @1Password on Twitter, and chúng tôi and tell us about the newest tricks you’ve learned!

1Password 6.2 for Mac is a free update to existing customers, and currently $64.99 on the Mac App Store for new customers. 1Password for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch is free for all users with an optional $9.99 in-app purchase to unlock pro features.

Instagram Adds More Demographic Insights For Businesses

Businesses on Instagram now have access to demographic data about the audiences that see and engage with their content.

Previously, the demographic breakdown in Instagram Insights was limited to users who follow you.

Now you can see the demographics of all users you reach, regardless of whether they follow you or have ever engaged with your content.

The new data is located in Instagram Insights under the sections called Accounts Engaged and Accounts Reached.

Here are complete details of the updates rolling out today.

New in Instagram Insights Accounts Engaged

Instagram is adding demographic data to audience insights under a section called Accounts Engaged.

In this section you can see where your most engaged followers live, how old they are, and more.

The data added includes:

Top cities

Top countries

Top age ranges and gender

All of the above data is broken down by followers and non-followers.

This makes it easy to spot differences between the people who choose to follow you after viewing your content and those who don’t.

In addition to demographics, the Accounts Engaged section keeps a running total of all accounts that interacted with your content in a given time period.

Accounts Reached

The number of users who engaged with your content represents a fraction of the number of users who saw your content.

For that data, look in the Accounts Reached section of Instagram Insights.

You’ll find the total number of accounts reached and a demographic breakdown similar to the one in Accounts Engaged.

Earlier this year Instagram added insights to Accounts Reached for Reels and livestreams.

Now you can see how many accounts you reached with all types of content, though demographic data is only available for feed posts.

Where is Instagram Insights?

Insights is located in the main menu of the Instagram app.

If you don’t see it then it might be because you don’t have a business account.

If you have a personal account and want access to Instagram Insights, look for an option called Switch to Professional Account in the main menu.

Anyone can get a business account and there’s no charge involved when upgrading.

After tapping the option to switch, all Instagram will ask of you is to select an applicable business category.

Choose a category and you’re done.

With a business account you can continue creating and publishing content on Instagram as you always have.

The main difference is the data you’ll have access to upon switching.

Along with the data added today, you also get access to useful insights about the users who follow you. This includes their demographics, when they’re usually online, and more.

Can Chromebook Memory Be Upgraded?

If you own a computer that no longer meets your needs, you can upgrade its hardware components. For example, you can add more storage space, more RAM, and even get a better GPU. Of course, the alternative is buying a brand-new device. But if you own a Chromebook, things are a bit more complicated. Upgrading your ChromeOS laptop is not always possible.

Can I Add More Memory to a Chromebook?

Most Chromebooks can’t be upgraded, which means that you can’t add more RAM to your device. On most ChromeOS laptops, the RAM is soldered to the motherboard. In other words, there’s no slot available to insert a new memory stick.

Why Do Chromebooks Have So Little RAM?

ChromeOS laptops have small hard drives and little memory to keep the cost down and encourage widespread use. The OS handles RAM differently and doesn’t really need as much memory as other operating systems.

Most Chromebooks come equipped with 4GB of RAM, although you can purchase models that sport 8GB of RAM as well. One such example is the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook.

Compared to other Windows or macOS computers, 4GB of RAM is not at all impressive. But ChromeOS is much lighter than Windows or macOS. Additionally, the OS is based on the Linux kernel and uses RAM more efficiently.

What’s the Secret?

Chrome OS keeps things snappy thanks to zRAM and double-wall low memory. zRAM is a compressed virtual memory that turns parts of your hard disk into RAM, allowing your laptop to do a lot more with less. The double-wall low memory automatically purges old tabs, data, apps, and processes that users haven’t used in a while to free up memory.

For example, Google Chrome consumes RAM by boatload on Windows and Mac. But zRAM and the double-wall low memory keep the RAM glutton Chrome in check on ChromeOS.

Can a Chromebook Run out of Memory?

Chromebooks can run out of memory. This issue frequently affects low-end Chromebooks equipped with 2GB of RAM. When this issue occurs, apps become unresponsive, Chrome will show you the “Aw, snap” error, and so on.

Enable Swap Memory

To quickly fix this memory issue, you need to enable Swap memory using Crosh.

Press Ctrl, Alt, and T to open a Crosh tab.

Run the swap enable [insert size] command

Replace [insert size] with the swap you want to add. For example, if you want to add a swap of 2GB, enter swap enable 2000.

Restart your Chromebook.

To disable the swap memory, run the swap disable command.

How Much RAM Do I Need For Chromebook?

To answer this question, you actually need to answer two additional questions: “How long am I planning to use this Chromebook for?” and “Will I use it as my main machine or rather as a backup laptop?”

If you’re planning to use your Chromebook for light browsing and social media for two to three years, go for a 4GB model. But if you’re planning to use the device as your main laptop for school or work, go for a model equipped with 8GB of RAM.

Conclusion

Most Chromebooks have the RAM chip soldered to the motherboard, which means you can’t add more memory to your device. Chromebooks generally come equipped with less RAM than regular Windows or macOS computers.

But ChromeOS doesn’t actually need that much RAM because it uses memory more efficiently. For example, 4GB of RAM should be enough for most users. Should your Chromebook ever run out of memory, you can quickly enable Swap Memory using Crosh.

Top 5 Data Collection Trends For Data

Data collection is becoming common practice for many businesses. Whether for implementing deep tech or conducting analytics, business leaders are continuously involved in gathering or using data to improve their operations.

As people realize the power of harnessing data, the regulations and practices of gathering and using it change. Considering that, business leaders must stay up to date regarding data collection and usage trends to maintain a consistent and useful flow of data across their business value chain.

This article explores the top 5 data collection trends to keep your data-driven business growing and to keep you informed of the latest developments.

Development in AI/ML models

As businesses try to automate more business operations, AI/ML models become more sophisticated and capable. For instance, a deep learning model can figure out its own parameters and learn how to improve itself. However, this means that not only do these models require a significantly larger amount of data to learn from, but they also have a much longer learning curve.

For instance, Facebook’s facial recognition system was trained with 4 million labeled images from 4000 people. This was back in 2014. Current facial recognition models require even larger datasets. The increase in dataset size is a trend that will continue to be observed.

You can check our data-driven list of data collection/harvesting services to find the best option that suits your project.

Development in rules and regulations

Data, a double-edged sword, can both be a powerful asset and a harmful liability. And to keep data usage and collection in check, there are regulatory measures being enforced.

Many countries are regulating data usage and sharing, making the rules more strict and comprehensive. The developments in regulations related to data collection, sharing, and usage will be another trend that will continue to be observed. Therefore, local companies need to thoroughly go through country-specific rules and policies that they operate in regarding data collection and usage before initiating any practices.

Rise of unstructured data

To understand this trend, let’s first have a look at structured and unstructured data.

Structure data

Structured data is normally stored in relational databases. It can be easily searched for by humans or software and can be placed into organized, designated fields. Examples include addresses, credit card or phone numbers. Unstructured data

Unstructured data is the opposite of structured data. It does not fit into predefined data models. And it can’t be stored in a relational database. Due to the various formats, conventional software can not process and analyze this data.

In other words:

In the past, structured data was the king. However, that has changed now, and unstructured data is more commonly used. This is because unstructured data is much more diverse than structured data and can provide more in-depth insights into things. Thanks to new technology such as AI, ML, computer vision, etc., unstructured data can now be analyzed and used in various ways to benefit a business.

Studies show that the volume of unstructured data was 33 zettabytes in 2023 and is projected to grow to 175 zettabytes (175 billion terabytes) by 2025. With the surge in the adoption of AI/ML-based solutions, the use of software to organize unstructured data rises as well, and companies continue to gather unstructured data.

Data stored in different tiers

Since the volume of data being generated and used continues to increase, business leaders are refocusing their efforts on data management strategies, including data storage and protection technology. Another trending practice to better manage data is data tiering. Organizations with strong digital maturity are tiering their data based on:

Data volume: How much they have, and the growth rate.

Data variety: The type of data they have, data storage details, and the accessibility of the data.

Data velocity: The speed at which data is generated.

Data priority: The impact of the data on the business operations.

Based on these considerations, data is stored in different tiers.

Data diversity

Bias in AI is becoming an increasing concern among businesses. For instance, studies show that AI-enabled facial recognition systems show more erroneous results for darker skin women, men, and children as compared to people of lighter color.

This bias can be reduced through reevaluating training of AI/ML models and diversifying training datasets. Diversifying the data collected for training AI/ML models is another trend that is being observed. For instance, IBM and Microsoft are taking steps to optimize their facial recognition system toward racial and gender neutrality.

How To Quickly Change WordPress Login Url For Added Security

If you are a WordPress user, you will know that the default login URL is at “/wp-login.php”. This default login URL is very convenient, but there are times when you’d be better changing it. There are a few good reasons to change the default login URL and there are some easy ways to do it. Read more about this in this article.

Why Would I Change the Default Login URL

The main reason to want to change the default login URL for your WordPress site is security. First, it tells hackers you are using WordPress (not that they can’t find this in other ways, but you are making it too easy for them). When hackers know your site is “Powered by WordPress” and know common WP vulnerabilities, you become an easy target.

Second, the default administrator’s username is “admin.” Not many WordPress sitemasters bother to change it. And hackers know this. The only thing left is to figure out your password. This isn’t easy, especially if you have done your homework and have chosen a harder-to-guess password, but just think of the load on your server while hackers are trying to brute-force-guess your password. Of course, if you change your default login, there is still no guarantee hackers won’t touch your site. But you are making their task much harder, and chances are they will simply move on to easier victims.

How to Change the Default Login URL

Before you begin with the actual steps of changing the default login URL, you really need to make a backup. I can’t stress how important a backup is! The default login change is usually painless, but if there are compatibility issues and other problems, without a backup you are simply lost. So, back up your site before you go on.

These are the default URLs, and you can change them as you please. For instance, you can change “/wp-login.php” to “/user/login/,” “/wp-login.php?action=register” to “/user/register/,” “/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword” to “/user/remind/,” and “/wp-login.php?action=logout” to “/user/logout/.”

Of course, these are just suggestions – you can change the URLs to anything you like. It’s even better to change them to something less logical – e.g. “/go,” “/enter,” or even something absurd (“/cucumber” or “/hahaha” come to my mind) because this makes it nearly impossible for hackers to guess. You can even change them to non-English URLs – this will make it even more difficult for hackers to guess.

Before you log out of the dashboard, do not forget to write down the changed URLs because if you forget them, even Google won’t be able to help you!

This is probably the easiest way to change the default login URL. It doesn’t involve any coding or messing with the installation files. There are other plugins you can use, too, such as Move Login or WPS Hide Login, so if for some reason you don’t like Custom Login URL, you are not stuck with it.

Lumafusion 1.6 Adds Support For Gnarbox Portable Backup And Editing System

LumaFusion, far and away the most feature-dense video editing app on iOS, has been updated to version 1.6. This latest release brings some notable enhancements to the table, including  Gnarbox integration.

I’ve covered LumaFusion several times before, and have been impressed by the amount of features that it has built in for serious video editors. Version 1.6 continues to build on the foundation already established by previous versions, and creates a noteworthy hardware partnership in the process. Watch our hands-on video for more details.

GNARBOX integration

The headlining feature of today’s 1.6 update is Gnarbox support. The Gnarbox, a portable battery-powered backup and editing system with built in storage, allows you to wirelessly transmit files to an iOS device. The unit comes with SD Card slots and USB ports letting it fetch and archive media from external sources.

After wirelessly connecting the Gnarbox to your iPad, you’ll be able to access media stored on the Gnarbox, along with media located on SD Cards and hard drives connected to the device. Via the Gnarbox app, users can transfer media from connected devices like SD Cards to the unit’s internal flash storage.

With today’s LumaFusion 1.6 update, users can now peruse and transfer media from the Gnarbox directly to an iPhone or iPad. A simple tap on the Gnarbox source inside of LumaFusion reveals all available media via its wireless connection. LumaFusion is even smart enough to display the Gnarbox’s current battery life.

Users have the option of viewing media streamed from the Gnarbox directly in the source viewer, setting in and out points along the way. When taking this approach, only the sections of media inserted into the timeline is downloaded to the iOS device, which can help save on space. Users also have the option of importing entire clips from either connected devices or media stored on the Gnarbox’s internal storage. Be sure to watch our hands-on video above for a demonstration of how it works.

During my testing I found file transfers to be a bit slow, but I’ve only tested it a handful of times. Version 1.0 of the Gnarbox along with its companion app feels a bit unpolished when compared to what I’ve seen from version 2.0, so here’s hoping that the enhanced hardware will make the process a bit faster and more streamlined. Once I get my hands on version 2.0 I plan on doing a full walkthrough of it and the LumaFusion integration.

Even with that said, however, it’s awesome to have direct access to the Gnarbox within LumaFusion without having to interface with any outside apps. It’s a very promising new feature that will likely be refined considering the track record of both companies.

Here is the full change log for 1.6:

What’s New

GNARBOX Integration! If you’re a GNARBOX owner, you’ll be able to browse, preview, and trim media from your GNARBOX within the LumaFusion library. Then when you add clips to the timeline, just the portion needed for editing in the timeline is downloaded from the GNARBOX to LumaFusion. You’ll be able to continue editing while the media is downloading. Look for the GNARBOX 1.8.0 release in the App Store that enables this integration with LumaFusion.

New iCloud Photo Library media handling. Media from iCloud Photo Library that isn’t on your device can be added to the timeline immediately, and will be downloaded while you continue to work.

Library clips and source viewer now have a used-sections indicator showing what portions of the media are already used in the current project.

View link on export. For many export destinations, you can now tap View to open a web page to your rendered movie, making it easy to quickly share with others (note that in some cases the video may not be immediately ready for viewing).

All import and export providers have been re-written and have many internal improvements.

Added pull-to-refresh in library in cases where LumaFusion doesn’t show changes automatically.

Enhanced

Easier to rotate objects in the clip editor, and numeric values for rotate, move and scale are shown during gestures.

Added keyboard commands for the ‘Add Clip’ options in the timeline

iTunes library only shows clips that can be used by LumaFusion (downloaded and unprotected)

Voiceover clips default to ‘Master’ ducking setting

Added loop play support to source viewer

Fixed

A number of issues with importing/exporting large files on some providers

Unable to login to Dropbox due to recent changes in Dropbox authentication

LUTs weren’t copied with Color settings in attributes clipboard

Cropping was not being saved in motion presets in all cases

Keyboard shortcut ‘C’ would not select clips if one already selected at playhead

Empty project wouldn’t change preview aspect ratio immediately

Improved stability

At NAB 2023 in Las Vegas, I previewed some additional exciting new features coming to LumaFusion, and I can assure you that fans of the app will be excited when these features ship.

LumaFusion version 1.6 is a free update for existing users. Those new to the app can purchase it from the App Store for $19.99. The 1.0 version of the Gnarbox is available now and users will need to download the latest 1.8 app update to enable LumaFusion support. Version 2.0 of the Gnarbox should be available any day now, and we will update you once it’s available.
