6 Ways To Fix Scanner Not Working With Windows

There are many reasons your scanner is not working with Windows. This can include anything from disconnected wires, improper scanner installation, and more. In this tutorial, we’ve compiled a list of all of the potential fixes that have proven to be effective for scanners not working in Windows.

1. Check Cables

First, examine the connection between the scanner and your computer:

Ensure your scanner’s adapter is safely attached to both the scanner and an active electrical outlet.

Verify that the PC and scanner are connected to the same network if the scanner is wireless.

If they are connected via cable, you might have a loose or damaged connection between the scanner and your computer.

Ensure that you are using the correct cable for your scanner model.

Unplug all additional devices attached to your computer (printer, modem, etc.).

Turn off programs that may interfere with scanning (anti-virus software, firewall, security software, etc.).

Drivers allow the operating system to properly access and manage the attached devices. If you installed the drivers long ago, there’s a chance they are corrupted or out of date, preventing the system from properly connecting with your scanner. The best way to fix this is to update the driver.

Now, select “Update driver,” followed by “Search automatically for drivers.”

Restart your computer to ensure that the new drivers are correctly installed.

Tip: check out how to install unsigned drivers in Windows, if you want to learn.

3. Add Your Scanner Manually via the Settings

Most of the time, configuring a scanner is as easy as connecting it to your device. Your PC should configure the scanner automatically after you plug it in. This process can, however, occasionally go wrong for no apparent reason. Below, we show how to manually add your scanner from the Windows Settings app.

Note: Although we tested the procedures with a wired scanner, they should also function similarly to those for wireless scanners. If you’re still having trouble connecting your wireless scanner to your home network and PC, check the scanner’s handbook or manufacturer’s website for extra information.

Press Windows + I to launch the Settings app.

Select “Printers & Scanners” under “Bluetooth & Devices.”

Give it some time to find nearby scanners. Your scanner will then be instantly added to the list of devices.

If that doesn’t work, remember that you can also visit the manufacturer’s website, find your scanner, and download the driver there.

4. Set Scanner Services to Open Automatically

For images to display on your screen, the Windows Image Acquisition service must first receive them from a hardware device, such as a camera or scanner.

Your PC won’t be able to receive images from your scanner or camera if you’ve disabled this service. You can restart the Windows Image Acquisition service here if you unintentionally deactivated it to fix the scanner not working on Windows issue:

Toggle or change the “Startup type” to “Automatic.”

To restart the WIA service, select “Start” under “Service status.”

Have a QR code you want to scan instead? You don’t even need a mobile device for that, as you can scan with your Windows device.

5. Run Scanner in Compatibility Mode

You can also change the scanner’s compatibility mode to fix a scanner not working with Windows. If you’re unaware, Windows’ compatibility mode enables outdated and old programs to function flawlessly on a new OS. If you’re using the scanner app on Windows 11, this will fix your problem.

Select the “Run this program in compatibility mode for” box under the “Compatibility tab.” You can choose any previous version of Windows (select Windows 10 if you are currently on Windows 11) from the drop-down menu.

To save the changes, press “Apply.”

6. Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

Microsoft includes a hardware and device troubleshooter tool to help you fix any hardware issues. This is one of the troubleshooting options available in the settings menu of Windows 10.

While Microsoft has officially discontinued the Hardware troubleshooter in Windows 11, it is still accessible via a command.

Finally, restart your computer and check whether your scanner is operating as it should.

Getting a strange message while browsing on your PC? Here’s how to fix ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT on Windows.

Frequently Asked Questions Where are my scanned documents saved?

You should go to a specified directory on your computer to find your scanned files. Open File Explorer and go to “C:UsersusernameDocumentsScanned Document.” Replace “username” with your own.

How can I scan documents without a scanner?

You can use your phone or tablet’s camera to take a photo and convert it to PDF. For that, we recommend checking out the best document scanner apps for Android.

Nintendo Switch Dock Not Working? 11 Ways To Fix

The killer feature of the Nintendo Switch is that it can, well, switch. It’s a handheld console that slots into a dock to turn it into a home console, and this hybrid design has set the Switch on track to be the best-selling console of all time if it reaches the record levels established by the Sony PlayStation 2. It’s a truly different option than Xbox One or PlayStation 4, which are its generational competition.

The thing is, sometimes, the docking part of the Switch experience just doesn’t work. While you can play games just fine in handheld mode, slipping your Switch into its dock doesn’t seem to do anything, and the green light might not even come on. If your Switch Dock is not working, these are the best troubleshooting tips.

Table of Contents

1. Update Your Switch

This is always a good first step, so update your Switch if possible. The docking station with Ethernet Port is the only one that can update its firmware, but it has to be in working order in the first place.

2. Are You Using a Nintendo Dock?

There are many third-party docks that you can buy for your Switch on sites like Amazon, and given how much cheaper they are than the Nintendo original, it can be very tempting. Sadly, there are many stories of third-party docks bricking or damaging Switch consoles.

This is a worst-case scenario, but there’s a good chance that if your third-party dock stopped working after a recent Switch system update, it probably means that Nintendo has changed something the dock maker did not anticipate.

In short, if you’re having trouble with a third-party dock, get in touch with that dock’s manufacturer or bite the bullet and buy an original Nintendo dock.

3. Power Cycle Your Switch

An excellent first step when troubleshooting dock issues is to power cycle the Switch, the dock, and your entire setup.

Press and hold the Switch power button until you see the power options menu, then select it and choose Power Off to power down the console.

Next, remove the power adapter from the wall and leave it unplugged for a few minutes to allow any power to discharge. Then plug it back in, turn on your Switch, and check if everything is working again.

4. Use the Correct Order for Cables

While we haven’t experienced this ourselves, it seems there may be a wrong order when connecting a dock to your TV that can affect whether everything works correctly. So unplug everything, start from scratch, and connect everything in this specific order:

Connect the

to the

Connect the

power adapter

to the

power outlet

Connect the

HDMI cable

to the TV’s

HDMI Input

Connect the other end of the

HDMI cable

to the dock.

Switch the TV to the correct

HDMI port

Insert the Switch.

If all goes well, the Switch should not be displaying its output on your TV. While at it, you should also check power cable connectors and the cable itself for damage.

5. Check the HDMI Cable

Usually, HDMI cables either work or don’t, but a damaged cable may work intermittently. Carefully inspect your HDMI cable for physical damage. Test it with a different device, and try using an alternate cable.

6. Use the Official HDMI Cable

HDMI cables follow a common standard, so in most cases, it doesn’t matter which HDMI cable you use with your Switch. However, some off-brand cables may cause issues with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) or other strict aspects of HDMI that the Switch expects.

Assuming that you still have the original Nintendo HDMI cable that came with your Switch, it is worth testing the dock with it to see if there might be something odd about your non-Nintendo cable that isn’t apparent from testing it with other devices.

7. Try a Friend’s Dock or Switch

If you own multiple Switches and docks, it’s an excellent time to try swapping out consoles and docks to track down which part of the setup is causing the issue. If another dock works, but the original doesn’t, that suggests there’s something wrong with the dock itself, and it might need replacement.

8. Check the Switch Dock Power Supply

A core reason that your dock doesn’t appear to be working is that it isn’t getting any power or isn’t getting enough of it. So the first thing to confirm is that the USB-C AC adapter is plugged in correctly and that the wall outlet is working.

An excellent way to do this is to unplug the power cable from the dock and connect it directly to your Switch. If the Switch indicates that it’s charging when you do this, you know there’s power from the adapter.

That’s an excellent first step, but just because there’s power from your adapter doesn’t mean there’s enough to power the dock. In docked mode, the Switch requires more power than it does to charge or run in handheld mode. It could be that the power adapter you’re using doesn’t produce enough power.

Nintendo’s power adapter is non-standard regarding how it negotiates power and the amount of power it provides. This is why you shouldn’t use it with other USB-C devices such as a Samsung or other Android phones. This is also why non-Nintendo power adapters may not give the dock as much power as it asks for. So use an official or third-party adapter explicitly designed for the Switch.

9. Change the TV Output Resolution Configuration

The Nintendo Switch can output at three different resolutions: 480p, 720p, and 1080p. Virtually any TV you encounter should handle all three of these options, and 1080p should be the best choice 99% of the time. However, you may be dealing with a TV that doesn’t play nice with one or more of these resolutions.

For example, some old 720p TVs or monitors may not handle a 1080p signal. To be clear, this is not very likely. It would have to be a relatively obscure TV to have an issue with these standard resolutions, but it can’t hurt to try different outputs to see if it makes a difference.

System Settings

from the

TV Output

from the left-hand list.

Go to

TV Resolution

Change the option from

to one of the three choices.

Put your Switch into the dock after each change to see if it helps.

10. Disable Power State Matching

While in the TV settings described above, you may want to disable Match TV Power State. All this does is turn the TV on when you turn on the Switch or insert it into the dock. It also turns the Switch into sleep mode when you turn off the TV.

This can confuse you when you’re trying to troubleshoot dock issues or get into a situation where turning on the TV turns the Switch off. So it’s a good idea to disable the feature temporarily until you fix your Nintendo Switch dock.

11. Clean Your Dock and Switch Port

This is a common issue with USB-C smartphones where small amounts of lint, debris, and dirt get shoved into the USB plugs and ports every time they’re inserted. Eventually, this buildup creates a buffer that prevents the cable from making contact within the port.

You can gently probe the inside of the Switch’s USB-C port and around the plug in the dock itself to see if there’s any gunk to fish out. Don’t use a metallic object such as a pin. We usually use a wooden or plastic toothpick; even then, you should be very gentle.

If You Have a Faulty Dock

If you’ve tried every reasonable troubleshooting step to get your dock working, it may be time to accept that it’s faulty and needs to be replaced. If your Switch (or dock purchased separately) is still under warranty, you’re most likely entitled to a free repair or replacement. So get in touch with your local Nintendo Service Center.

Although Switch docks are relatively expensive, there’s not much you can do to fix Nintendo Switch docks. This means you have little choice but to replace the entire unit out of pocket if the electronic components are faulty and you’re out of the warranty period.

Again, as we mentioned above, it’s probably best to avoid third-party docks not certified by Nintendo since this can leave you with a bricked Nintendo Switch console. However, you should take the time to look for used or refurbished Switch docks before you buy a new one.

There are a surprising number of docks that people sell off because their consoles are broken or have been replaced, and there’s little reason not to buy a used dock. After all, there’s relatively little that can go wrong with them.

Alienware Command Center Not Working? 8 Ways To Fix It

Alienware Command Center is the default Alienware app you can use to manage your games. You can also control your peripheral devices and overclocking settings using this app.

However, this application malfunctions or does not work at all in some scenarios. Usually, you’ll see the effects on your lighting or fan speed. But there are also cases where the program doesn’t load or gets stuck on updates.

These issues may seem different, but they have rather similar solutions, which you can find below.

Here are the potential reasons for Alienware Command Center not working on your computer:

Alienware Command Center service not running.

Corruption of .NET Frameworks.

Conflicts due to third-party apps.

Issues with Alienware Command Center app.

Before moving on to the solutions, make sure to update Windows to the latest version. There may be some unresolved bugs in the previous update causing conflicts with this application.

If your issue remains unresolved, log in to Windows using an admin account and apply the possible fixes below:

The first thing you should do is check whether Alienware Command Center’s service is running properly. If the service is disabled, the app won’t run, and if you set its startup type to Manual, you will experience delays while running the Command Center.

Follow the steps below to check this service and change its startup type if necessary.

Restart your PC and check if Alienware Command Center starts working.

Alienware Command Center relies on .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5 to run properly. So, any error or corruption with the Frameworks may prevent the Command Center from working.

You can use the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool to repair these programs. But the better solution is to uninstall and reinstall them from the official website. To do so,

Restart the computer and install .Net Framework 3.5 and 4.5 (or the latest supported version) from Microsoft’s .NET Framework Download web page.

You can also try repairing or resetting the Alienware Command Center to repair any errors with the software. Here’s how you can do so:

If repairing doesn’t work, perform these steps again and, this time, select Reset.

If the above method didn’t work, you must entirely remove Alienware Command Center before reinstalling it. Doing so removes any possible problematic files, after which you can safely reinstall the software.

Here’s how you can uninstall the entire application:

Restart your PC and install the latest Alienware Command Center from Dell’s download center. Then, restart your computer again and check if it starts working.

If Alienware Command Center gets stuck on downloading new updates, preventing you from using the app, you can delete the UpdateService folder and download the latest version. Here are the necessary steps:

Restart your PC, and then download and install Alienware Command Center’s latest version from Dell’s website.

Many users have experienced issues with Alienware Command Center due to interference from other applications. Some examples include CPU and GPU controlling or overclocking apps like MSI Afterburner along with RivaTuner Statistics Server and Intel XTU.

You need to troubleshoot your PC in clean boot mode to check if any such programs are causing conflicts. To do so,

Restart your PC and check if the Command Center works appropriately. If yes, then the reason for your issue is definitely third-party app interference.

Enable each third-party service or app and restart your PC. Check if the issue persists, enable another service/startup app, and then restart again. Perform this process for all services until you determine which program is causing conflicts.

Then, you can disable or uninstall the incompatible application.

If you have trouble managing device controls for overclocking, such as fan speed, there might be some errors on the Alienware OC Control application.

It’s better to manually download this program from the official website instead of using the Alienware Command Center to avoid such issues. We also recommend uninstalling it from your computer before installing it again.

The final method you should carry out if all previous solutions fail is to restore or reset your PC. If you have a restore point from when the Command Center was working perfectly, you can revert your system to the point. To do so:

Open Run

Type rstrui and press Enter.

Select the appropriate restore point and follow the given instructions.

If you don’t have a suitable restore point, reset your PC to its factory settings.

Equalizer Apo Not Working? 10 Proven Ways To Fix It

You certainly use Equalizer APO if you have your own kind of hearing preferences. It allows you full control over the sound produced on your PC to suit your needs. But it does not always work as per your expectations.

There are many cases when the Equalizer APO stops working. For instance, the application may not start or crash/hang after it opens. Or, the changes you made to the audio using the application may not be applied. Moreover, you may also encounter an unexpected error after making changes in the APO configuration editor.

Whatever the cases, you will easily figure out and solve the problem once you go through this article.

Unsupported installation mode of Equalizer APO

Firewall and antivirus blocking the application

Disabled audio enhancement features

Disabled exclusive control mode

Enabled audio hardware acceleration

Outdated or corrupted audio drivers

Misconfigured settings of Equalizer APO

Fixing issues with Equalizer APO is not that cumbersome. You just need to tweak some settings, and you will get it back in its working state.

I have compiled a list of 10 fixes you can apply when Equalizer APO is not working. Let’s dive straight into them.

Equalizer APO provides you with three modes of installation. You can install it as an LFX/GFX, SFX/MFX, or SFX/EFX. They are the Audio Processing Object (APO) architecture that describes how the audio is processed before passing it to the audio adapter. You can choose which architecture you want to use whenever you install the Equalizer APO on your computer.

Some users reported that they solved the issue of Equalizer APO not working using the SFX/EFX mode, while others said they used LFX/GFX. You can try installing it in different modes and see which one solves your issue. Here’s how to do it:

Windows Firewall is an in-built security tool in Windows that protects you from potential attacks and threats. You may also have an antivirus installed in your system to protect it from viruses and malware.

They may sometimes misinterpret Equalizer APO as a harmful program and prevent it from running. You may encounter the issue when trying to open the Configurator.exe or Editor.exe file due to firewall or antivirus blockage.

Allow the application through them and see if it solves the issue. Follow these steps to allow Equalizer APO through Firewall:

Also, try disabling antivirus and see if the issue with Equalizer APO is fixed. If it starts working, add an exception in your Antivirus software and allow it to run. The process of adding an exception depends upon your Antivirus manufacturer. Consult the respective guide.

Intending to improve your hearing experience, Windows has many audio enhancement features. As the Equalizer APO is also used for enhancing your audio, it will not work if the feature is disabled. Make sure it is enabled from your sound settings. Here’s how to do it:

Hardware acceleration basically means using hardware to accelerate any task. Talking about the audio hardware acceleration, the CPU will offload the audio processing tasks to the hardware when this feature is enabled. While doing so, the CPU cannot recognize the changes you make to the audio using the Equalizer APO. The application may not work properly due to this issue.

Consider disabling the hardware acceleration and see if it fixes the issue. Here’s how:

Note: Every sound card does not support this feature. You don’t need to panic if you don’t see the hardware acceleration option. Just move to the next fix below.

Outdated audio drivers can be another reason the Equalizer APO is not working. It might have a new update with fixed bugs in the earlier version and possibly fix the issue with Equalizer APO. Update the audio drivers to the latest version and see if it starts working again. Follow these steps:

If the audio drivers have been corrupted during the installation, it may not work correctly with other applications. Not to mention, this also can be an issue with Equalizer APO not working. Consider fresh installing the audio devices and see if you resolve the problem. Follow these steps:

After you uninstall the devices and restart your PC, a fresh copy of drivers will be installed. It would fix issues if the corrupted drivers prevented the Equalizer APO from working.

With exclusive control mode turned on, audio applications can directly coordinate with the sound card, skipping the processing of the Windows audio engine. You should enable exclusive mode access for Equalizer APO to allow it to work without any interference. Follow these steps:

You might have set the wrong configuration or messed up with the Equalizer APO settings that might prevent it from working. You can reset it to factory defaults easily. Check if it starts working normally after a reset. Follow these steps to reset the Equalizer APO settings:

Registry editor allows a user to view and make changes in the Windows registry. You can also change access permissions to devices using it. If the Equalizer APO is not working, you can try changing the permissions of audio devices to Full Control to the PC user and fix the issue. Follow these steps:

Restart your computer and reinstall the APO. The application should work without any issue now.

If you tried every fix discussed above but still can not figure out what is causing the issue, you can fresh install the application. You should completely uninstall the application and reinstall it. It will probably fix the issue. Follow these steps to reinstall the Equalizer APO:
