Suggested January 2024 Adding Blink Cameras From Two Locations

Blink is a home security surveillance system that is both low maintenance and has affordable hardware pricing. It’s what you would truly call wire-free home security. A closer look at the home and work surveillance package reveals that there are no contracts required with a security firm or a load of legal mumbo jumbo before you can install it.

You can purchase security cameras from Blink either through Amazon or directly from their website. So far, people have had a lot of positive things to say about their software, mostly because they are both affordable and very easy to use. The hardware is generally easy to maintain with no fragile or sensitive parts, it comes with a native IFTTT and integration with Amazon Alexa.

You don’t even have to be very tech-savvy to be able to follow the installation manual for installation. This is why it has been called a DIY (do it yourself) home security system on several occasions. You can finish installing and setting up your security coverage within a couple of minutes. It is that easy!

How Blink Cameras Work

Before we take a closer look at Blink cameras and how to add them from two locations, let’s go through how they work. With these cameras, not only can you see all your feeds from a single application, but when the camera detects motion, it records from five to sixty seconds depending on how long you set it. Most people set their recording time to a minute. The default is five seconds.

The battery life is crazy too, but this is due to the low record time. The minimum life of a Blink battery is 24 months. Blink has an app that is compatible with Android, iOS, and even Fire Os which is saying something. The cameras are voiced by Alexa, the Amazon virtual voice assistant, which allows users to voice control of the security system and also makes it easier to integrate with other home appliances.

At the rate of 5 seconds, the Blink security software stores about 1,440 events into the cloud. You can either move these events into new storage units or the new ones will start to erase the old ones when the clips pass that size.

Blink Cameras in Multiple Locations

Now let’s say you have a camera installed in your office in a different part of town and another one installed at your house. You also wish to access these two cameras on your device application. You can do so by linking two to cameras to the same Blink account.

Each camera needs to be connected to a sync module.  However, you can only connect cameras that are about 100 feet from the module, a device that is plugged into a power source. This means that if you are connecting a camera from home and a camera from your office or a second location that may be downtown then you will need a sync module for each camera and to connect those two modules to the same Blink account.

Creating Systems

Next, the camera on your device will start scanning the module for its QR code. Or, you can’t also enter the module serial number yourself. After this is done, choose a module name that makes sense to you. For example, if it’s in your home then you can name it “Home” or anything else you want.

Syncing

You have the option to include up to ten cameras to each sync module, so you know that you’re secure at every location.

Google Increases Locations Serving Search Requests By 600% From Last Year

Google has significantly increased the number of sites and ISPs it uses to serve search requests according to a study by researchers at the University of Southern California.

The study reports Google increased the number of locations serving search requests from less than 200 to more than 1,400 between October 2012 and July 2013. In addition, they have also expanded the number of ISPs used from just over 100 to more than 850.

As reported in the study:

Over the past 10 months, Google search has dramatically increased the number of sites around the world from which it serves client queries, repurposing existing infrastructure to change the physical way that Google processes web searches, according to a new study from USC.

Most of this expansion is simply Google using client networks that it already relied on for hosting content like YouTube videos and repurposing them to deliver faster responses to user requests for search queries.

The study’s lead author and USC PhD student Matt Calder explains it by saying:

Google already delivered YouTube videos from within these client networks, but they’ve abruptly expanded the way they use the networks, turning their content-hosting infrastructure into a search infrastructure as well.

Why Is This Important?

While you may be reading this and asking, “Why is this news?” it’s important because it shows that search is still a high priority for Google while it expands in different directions.

Google still values the search experience of its end users, otherwise they wouldn’t be making this kind of investment if search wasn’t still a critical component of their business.

The strategy seems to have benefits for webusers, ISPs and Google, according to the team. Users have a better web browsing experience, ISPs lower their operational costs by keeping more traffic local, and Google is able to deliver its content to webusers quicker.

Rest assured that Google hasn’t forgotten where they came from. Delivering the best search experience to users is still a top priority, as this study indicates.

Wunderlist 3 Releases, Adding Real

After previewing its major version 3.0 update earlier this month, 6Wunderkinder has now released the refreshed Wunderlist 3, the latest version of the popular cross-platform to-do, task and list management app.

With 60+ new features across iOS, Android, Chromebooks, Mac and on the web, Wunderlist 3 is a huge release for the Berlin, Germany-based company. Two standout new features deserve a mention: an all-new real-time syncing engine and public lists…

This is the new app icon.

The first thing you’ll notice about Wunderlist 3 is its all-new look, revamped from the ground up for maximum impact and minimal clutter.

All unnecessary visuals have been removed to create a design that still feels like Wunderlist, only simpler and lighter.

When you first get Wunderlist 3 in your hands, it will simply feel faster. We’ve designed a beautiful new interface to make every interaction more fluid and intuitive than ever before.

In fact, the new interface is the combined result of our design and engineering teams relentlessly improving every button, flow and animation.

This marks a new design direction for 6Wunderkinder that lets them scale Wunderlist to almost any sized device, now and into the future.

Check out Wunderlist’s new look below.

The app was designed to be “home to the world’s lists,” 6Wunderkinder founder and CEO Christian Reber said.

“People have all sorts of lists like movie lists, check lists, shopping lists and wish lists,” he told TechCrunch. “They create those lists in Wunderlist and collaborate with people on it.”

Public lists in Wunderlist 3 make it easy create, discover and share lists with other users and the web at large. After your list is public, you can share it through social media with your friends and contacts on Facebook, Twitter and Google+, or get an embed code to use in blog posts.

Check out public lists in Wunderlist 3.

And another one.

Even better, the app can search for popular how-tos and other topics and save those lists to your own Wunderlist account, with a little help from a new ‘Add to Wunderlist’ button.

In addition to public lists and a thoroughly revamped appearance across all platforms, Wunderlist 3 introduces a much improved, lightweight and a lot faster syncing engine.

Whereas previously the app could only refresh items every fifteen minutes, syncing now occurs in real-time so any change you make on one device instantly gets reflected on all your others. In turn, teams can now collaborate on lists in real-time.

Here’s real-time sync in action.

Benedikt Lehnert, the company’s chief designer, said:

Everything you do in Wunderlist with your team or as an individual happens in real time. We compared a lot of services and there are only a handful that we see as being on the same level in terms of complexity and ability to scale and be super fast.

Last but not least, developers are planning on releasing a Wunderlist API to integrate with other productivity apps such as Dropbox, Evernote and many others.

Wunderlist’s user base now stands at over 8 million, by the way. Back in November, 6Wunderkinder received a $19 million Series B funding round led by the reputable investment firm Sequoia Capital.

To learn more about Wunderlist 3, check out the team’s blog post.

The app is currently being rolled so it may not show up in your local app store yet. Wunderlist is a free download from the App Store and Mac App Store.

You can also grab Wunderlist 3 for a platform of your choosing from 6Wunderkinder’s download page.

7 Things You Need To Know About Surveillance Cameras

Surveillance cameras vs security cameras, which one should you choose? Turns out, many people believe that surveillance cameras and security cameras are the same. However, there are plenty of differences between them, such as operation, accessibility, purpose, and quality. If you want to know more about surveillance cameras, here are seven things that set them apart:

Surveillance Cameras Have Higher Video Quality

Surveillance cameras are usually better than security cameras when it comes to clearer images, digital zooms or pans, or even personal identification, animal identification, or vehicle identification. They are technologically more complex than security cameras and often require proper management. Surveillance cameras have HD video quality, but some even reach 4k video quality.

The Footage is Displayed in Real-Time Significantly Deter Crime in Public Areas

Surveillance Cameras Are Often Hidden

Security cameras are often visible to employees, but surveillance cameras in public spaces are mostly hidden to deter criminals from trying to damage them. Some examples include the surveillance cameras installed near ATM machines. Criminals know they are there, which deters them from committing a crime, but they don’t know where the camera is to block it.

You Can Access Them From Anywhere

One of the most fun things about surveillance cameras is that you can access them from anywhere you are. Let’s say you go on vacation and want to check up on your business or a public space just out of curiosity. You can do so through your laptop or phone with certain apps or by accessing certain websites that allow you to share the view of public spaces.

Some Surveillance Cameras Can Sense Pheromones

Surveillance Systems Can Detect Motion of Up to 100 Feet
