Suggested January 2024 Can You Be On Two Zoom Calls At Once?

Over the last year, Zoom has been a lifesaver for millions of professionals across the globe. We use it almost every single workday to get in touch with our colleagues, superiors, and clients. Many of us even use Zoom for personal communication, as well, primarily due to its generous free license and ease of use. Although beneficial for the most part, Zoom’s global reach does come with a unique conundrum.

If you tend to deal with multiple clients at work, you might encounter scenarios when you’re required to be on two Zoom calls at the same time. And no, trading one in favor of the other is rarely an option. Below, we’ll look to give you a solution — or insight — to this problem and help you tackle multiple Zoom calls at the same time.

Can you be on two Zoom calls from your account?

Zoom does allow you to be on multiple meetings or webinars at the same time, albeit with a couple of strings attached. Generous as the tool may be, Zoom doesn’t let free users take the reins and host multiple meetings at the same time.

When you try to go to a different meeting from your Zoom free account, it prompts you to leave the meeting you’re currently on and join the new one instead. However, if your company on school/college has access to the Zoom Business or Education license, you would be able to join multiple meetings at the same time, primarily through the intervention of your system administrator.

How to join multiple meetings from your desktop

As per Zoom’s official guide, it is indeed possible for users to join two meetings at the same time. However, this feature is only reserved for Business or Education account users. Pro and free users have been purposefully left out.

If you are a part of the two privileged categories, you’ll have to recheck that the ‘Join different meetings simultaneously on desktop’ option, under the ‘In Meeting(Basic)’ section, is enabled. Contact your system administrator if it isn’t.

After you’ve verified, launch the Zoom desktop client. Now, join the first meeting as you generally do, through the desktop client.

For the second one, you’ll have to go to Zoom’s joining page and enter the meeting ID of the call you want to attend.

Finally, join the meeting through the browser and you’re set to appear in two Zoom sessions at once.

How to host multiple meetings from your account

Premium Enterprise, Business, and Education users are permitted to host two meetings at the same time. Although, by default, they cannot be present at two of them at the same time.

This would kick off another meeting session. If you wish, you could transfer host controls to one of the attendees and leave the meeting.

Similarly, you could join one meeting as you generally do, from the desktop app and the other from your preferred browser. Make sure you have the ‘Join different meetings simultaneously on desktop’ option enabled and, you’d be good to go.

How to be on Two Zoom calls at once if you have a free account

As we’ve seen over the last two sections, the option to host and join multiple meetings is reserved for premium users only. And while that fits the bill for most organizations and institutions, it might be a little discouraging for Zoom free users. Thankfully, there are a couple of workarounds that can serve you just fine.

Join through a browser tab

When you have a free account, you are only allowed to join a single meeting from your Zoom profile. Fortunately, you can very easily join a separate meeting with the help of your desktop browser.

Zoom doesn’t force you to have a registered account to join a meeting, so, you can very easily paste the meeting link to your browser’s address bar and connect to the meeting participants.

On the next screen, enter your name, complete the captcha, and hit ‘Join.’

You could use this method to join more than two meetings as well. Just use an incognito tab and join as many meetings as you wish.

Join using multiple accounts on different devices

This one might not be as handy as the first one, but it can work for people with multiple email IDs. All you have to do is create multiple accounts from multiple accounts and you can log in to them from different devices.

Zoom doesn’t charge you a dime for it.

After you’ve signed up, you won’t need to do anything extra to join meetings, of course. Since you’re not using one account to join concurrent meetings, there are no restrictions that you have to keep in mind.

How to fix audio issues while tackling multiple meetings

In the previous section, we talked about joining meetings simultaneously from the desktop client and browser, respectively. And while that does solve the actual problem, it makes way to another unique challenge.

Since a computer doesn’t have the qualification to separate audio sources, it would simply channel both meetings through your speakers or headphones. This means that joining two meetings at once will not do you any good as the outputs would get mixed up. However, if you have the luxury of prioritizing one above the other, there is an option that allows you to decrease the volume of one meeting while keeping the other one intact.

Now, go to ‘Open Volume mixer.’

This would give you all the applications that are now open and making noise. Since the Zoom desktop client and your browser tab are individual entities, you would be able to adjust their loudness separately.

Can you be on multiple Zoom calls at once from your mobile?

Zoom’s mobile client is pretty stacked in its own right, however, it does miss out on some key features — one of which happens to be concurrent meetings. Not only can you not host multiple meetings from the mobile app, but you also miss out on joining them. Since most mobile devices lack raw power, Zoom kept the power-hungry features reserved for computers only.

Two More Iphones Split At The Seams

Two more iPhones split at the seams [UPDATE: now 3]

It would appear that a couple more iPhone 8 Plus phones have opened themselves up for want of a bigger space for a battery. These two units add on to the two we reported last week, both of which within the the first week. In our first report we found one Japan, another in Taiwan. The two newest reports come from Greece and Canada.

While it’s possible these units all came from the same manufacturer, it’s sort of unlikely. Taiwan and Japan’s units coming from the same manufacturing plant, I can believe is possible. But also Canada and Greece? That seems like a bit more unlikely a situation that they’d have come from the exact same plant – unless, of course, every single battery was made in the same place, then shipped to different manufacturing plants afterward.

The cases we’ve seen so far seem to fall into two categories, with two of each iPhone 8 Plus fitting in either category. One is an iPhone 8 Plus appearing with its display pushed up and out – appearing this way right out the just-opened new device box. The other sort is an iPhone 8 Plus that seemed normal until it was first charged – using official Apple accessories to do so.

Those two users that’d plugged their devices in did not seem to leave their devices charging for an inordinate amount of time, and no other strange circumstances seemed to be in play. It does seem that in every one of these four incidents, the display glass was unhinged from the sides of the iPhone 8 Plus as their battery expanded beyond normal size.

Both of these most recent cases were reported this week by MacRumors, who were given the Canadian Photo, while the other comes from the folks at Apple repair shop iRepair in Greece.

UPDATE: A separate case was reported in the early hours of October 2nd that we missed! That case came from NewMobileLife, who report that an iPhone 8 Plus expanded and pushed up the display glass like the others – this time in Hong Kong.

Of note – while battery failure like this is unlikely, it is entirely possible (and not unheard of) in the course of creating millions of smartphone units. It is a serious matter, but one that’s gone without serious consequences thus far. While some previous battery failures started fires due to battery gas expansion then bursting, the iPhone 8 Plus seems ready to open up when pressure is applied from within.

It’s quite likely that Apple’s iPhone is designed in a way which allows this situation to unfold as it has, rather than risk such failure resulting in a fire – or worse still, an explosion. For their part, Apple seems to be on the case, and all (or most) units are already on their way back to the company for further inspection.

Can Chromebook Memory Be Upgraded?

If you own a computer that no longer meets your needs, you can upgrade its hardware components. For example, you can add more storage space, more RAM, and even get a better GPU. Of course, the alternative is buying a brand-new device. But if you own a Chromebook, things are a bit more complicated. Upgrading your ChromeOS laptop is not always possible.

Can I Add More Memory to a Chromebook?

Most Chromebooks can’t be upgraded, which means that you can’t add more RAM to your device. On most ChromeOS laptops, the RAM is soldered to the motherboard. In other words, there’s no slot available to insert a new memory stick.

Why Do Chromebooks Have So Little RAM?

ChromeOS laptops have small hard drives and little memory to keep the cost down and encourage widespread use. The OS handles RAM differently and doesn’t really need as much memory as other operating systems.

Most Chromebooks come equipped with 4GB of RAM, although you can purchase models that sport 8GB of RAM as well. One such example is the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook.

Compared to other Windows or macOS computers, 4GB of RAM is not at all impressive. But ChromeOS is much lighter than Windows or macOS. Additionally, the OS is based on the Linux kernel and uses RAM more efficiently.

What’s the Secret?

Chrome OS keeps things snappy thanks to zRAM and double-wall low memory. zRAM is a compressed virtual memory that turns parts of your hard disk into RAM, allowing your laptop to do a lot more with less. The double-wall low memory automatically purges old tabs, data, apps, and processes that users haven’t used in a while to free up memory.

For example, Google Chrome consumes RAM by boatload on Windows and Mac. But zRAM and the double-wall low memory keep the RAM glutton Chrome in check on ChromeOS.

Can a Chromebook Run out of Memory?

Chromebooks can run out of memory. This issue frequently affects low-end Chromebooks equipped with 2GB of RAM. When this issue occurs, apps become unresponsive, Chrome will show you the “Aw, snap” error, and so on.

Enable Swap Memory

To quickly fix this memory issue, you need to enable Swap memory using Crosh.

Press Ctrl, Alt, and T to open a Crosh tab.

Run the swap enable [insert size] command

Replace [insert size] with the swap you want to add. For example, if you want to add a swap of 2GB, enter swap enable 2000.

Restart your Chromebook.

To disable the swap memory, run the swap disable command.

How Much RAM Do I Need For Chromebook?

To answer this question, you actually need to answer two additional questions: “How long am I planning to use this Chromebook for?” and “Will I use it as my main machine or rather as a backup laptop?”

If you’re planning to use your Chromebook for light browsing and social media for two to three years, go for a 4GB model. But if you’re planning to use the device as your main laptop for school or work, go for a model equipped with 8GB of RAM.

Conclusion

Most Chromebooks have the RAM chip soldered to the motherboard, which means you can’t add more memory to your device. Chromebooks generally come equipped with less RAM than regular Windows or macOS computers.

But ChromeOS doesn’t actually need that much RAM because it uses memory more efficiently. For example, 4GB of RAM should be enough for most users. Should your Chromebook ever run out of memory, you can quickly enable Swap Memory using Crosh.

Delete Files Keeps Coming Back On Windows 10, What Can Be Done?

Deleted Files and Folders On Windows Keep Coming Back, What Can Be Done? Fixes for Deleted Files Keep Coming Back on Windows 10: 1. Run An Antivirus Scan And Use A File Shredder To Delete Unwanted Files

Things can become really scary if the deleted files and folders that keep coming back on your computer are strange and you have no clue what they are. Worse! However much you try, they just refuse to go. This could possibly mean that they are infected with some or the other kind of virus. Now, two tools can help you get rid of such files.

(i) A robust Antivirus software

After reading the heading, you might think that I will now have to install two different software – (i) An Antivirus that would look for malicious files and folders and (ii) a file deletion/ shredder that can completely delete a file, right? How about we tell you that there are software which bear the goodness of both. And, Advanced System Optimizer is one such software.

Let’s have a look at both the modules of Advanced System Optimizer

1. System Protector

2. Secure Delete Module

2. Resolve A Corrupted Or A Broken Recycle Bin

If deleted files and folders keep coming back on Windows 10’s recycle bin, chances could be that there are some issues with the Recycle bin itself. Here are the steps to fix a corrupted recycle bin –

1. In the Windows search bar type cmd

2. From the right-hand pane open Run as administrator

3. Type the below mentioned command in the Command Prompt

rd /s /q C:$Recycle.bin

4. Press Enter

5. Type exit to close the Command Prompt

3. Turn Off Cloud Sync Or Uninstall Third-Party Cloud Storage

You can try turning off cloud sync or uninstall a cloud service especially if it is uses SharpShell extension-

1. Open the Run dialog box by pressing Windows + R keys

2. Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter. This will open the Programs and Features in the Control Panel

3. Select the cloud storage service listed in the Control Panel

4. Select Uninstall from the top

5. Restart computer

Now, if you just want to turn off auto-sync, here are the probable steps you can take. Let’s say you use Dropbox as your cloud service provider. To turn off auto-sync in Dropbox.

3. Select Preferences

4. Check System Permissions

There’s a possibility that the system itself is not allowing you to make changes to files and folders because of which you are unable to remove files. In that case, you can check and make changes to your system permissions –

2. Select Properties

5. Select Change next to the Owner

7. In the box enter names and press OK

9. In the Permissions for System choose Allow for all permissions

Covid’s Fourth Wave Is On The Way—And Younger People Could Be Most At Risk

Post-pandemic optimism is increasing, with over 105 million people in the US having received at least their first shot, with a record-breaking 4 million shots given just this past weekend. But the road to a new normal will be paved with a few bumps, which is to be expected.

Here’s what unfolded over the past week.

New COVID-19 Indian variant found in the Bay Area

A new variant of the coronavirus has been reported in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. At least one case of this double mutation has been confirmed by the Stanford Clinical Virology Lab with more cases expected to arise.

This double mutation, so named for having two mutations that help the virus latch onto cells, was first discovered in India, although Indian officials don’t currently believe it’s responsible for a recent surge of cases in that country.

While there is serious concern that variants of the virus could be more dangerous or contagious, “there is no definite evidence that this double variant is more virulent or causes more severe disease,” Stanford health expert Dr. Dean Winslow told the Bay Area’s NBC affiliate.

Florida governor bans coronavirus passports

On Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis signed an executive order prohibiting any government entity from issuing a vaccine passport or any business from requiring any documentation as proof of immunity.

The order draws on protection of privacy and citizenship, stating that requiring proof of vaccination would “reduce individual freedom,” “harm patient privacy,” and “create two classes of citizens based on vaccination.”

COVID-19 passports are a new point of friction in the politics of the global pandemic that has halted all sorts of travel and mobility. With the CDC’s new guidance on domestic travel, governing and regulating who gets to move around is a conversation being held by many stakeholders.

In other parts of the country like New York, app-based digital vaccine passports that can show proof of vaccination and negative COVID-19 tests are already being trialed.

A possible fourth wave is on its way

After a steady decline across the US, there has been a spike in new cases in the past seven days. On average, there were more than 65,000 new cases per day, indicating a 20 percent increase from the previous two weeks.

Some epidemiologists suggest, however, that this new spike is not affecting all parts of the country equally: Cases in the Midwest and Northeast are rising more rapidly compared to the West or the South.

Opinion is split within the scientific community, with some expecting these regions to stabilize, or at least for the peaks to not be as severe as we saw in the winter. A combination of loosened state restrictions, new variants, and a more generalized pandemic fatigue could be contributing to the increasing number of cases. But with more people vaccinated and warmer weather around the corner, there is hope that the situation can be contained.

Crucially, which way the pendulum swings will depend on how quickly vaccination campaigns continue to roll out and how both local and state governments respond in the meantime.

New possible surge affecting younger people more

The looming surge in case numbers seems to indicate young people are now in the crossfire, as opposed to adults 65 and older who have been more severely affected and consequently more widely vaccinated. New contagious variants like the B.1.1.7 variant have increased transmissibility and are acting in previously unexpected ways.

“We have to think about the B.1.1.7 variant as almost a brand new virus,” Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine told CNN. “It’s acting differently from anything we’ve seen before, in terms of transmissibility, in terms of affecting young people, so we have to take this very seriously.”

Half of Navajo Nation residents have been fully vaccinated

Despite being one of the worst hit regions in the country, the Navajo Nation has reported a 24-hour period with zero cases and zero deaths. Amid national expectation of a new surge, the Nation reported just seven new cases as of yesterday. Its recovery from incredibly high rates in the winter is a result of a large vaccination drive and a strict mask mandate.

More than half of the roughly 170,000 residents living on tribal lands have been fully vaccinated, with nearly 90 percent of all allocated doses administered. The success of this campaign has been “a coordinated effort between the Navajo Nation, the Navajo Area of the [federally-run Indian Health Service agency] and the tribal health organizations,” Ramona Antone-Nez, director of the tribe’s epidemiology center, told the Navajo Times.

As the UK reopens, proof of immunity certification could be required

In the UK, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed that all pub gardens, hairdressers and non-essential shops will be allowed to reopen on April 12 in England, after a strict 4-month lockdown. In order to aid this effort, he announced that everyone in England should be able to take a COVID-19 test twice a week.

Though businesses opening next week will not be required to ask for COVID-19 documentation, immunity certification trials are planned for nine mass events to test out the system. There has already been staunch opposition to these “passports” in the UK, too.

Johnson, however, insisted that vaccination would not be the only route for certification. A recent negative COVID test, or natural immunity inferred from a positive COVID result from the previous six months, would also suffice. These options are part of an effort to be more inclusive, and account for cases of natural immunity or inability to receive a vaccine.

A COVID outbreak at a bar in rural Illinois reverberates across the community

As social distancing restrictions ease and states reopen, the threat of spikes in community transmission looms large. A CDC report released today shows that an indoor bar opening that occured in February turned out to be responsible for nearly 50 cases of COVID-19. The event resulted in one hospitalization, one school closure affecting 650 students, and a number of secondary cases across households, the school, and a long-term care facility.

The outbreak highlights how ignoring both state guidelines and one’s own body can have ripple effects across a whole community: According to the report, one asymptomatic attendee showed up to the event even though they had received a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis the day before.

As businesses start to reopen, these findings underscore the need for proper attention to public health guidelines and preventative measures. Indoor gatherings—whether in rural areas or cities—are still at increased risk of becoming super-spreader events due to inadequate space for physical distancing, ineffective ventilation, and inconsistent mask use.

New study shows that pregnant people can pass on antibodies to their babies through vaccination

Though pregnant people have been excluded from initial vaccination trials, new data suggests that immune responses induced from COVID-19 vaccines were significantly stronger than immunity gained from natural infection—providing a solid argument for more pregnant people to get vaccinated despite current anxieties.

The study also reported that immunogenicity—or the type and magnitude of vaccine response over time—was similar in pregnant and lactating people when compared to responses observed in non-pregnant people.

It’s also good news for newborns: The findings show that COVID-19 antibodies can be transferred via the placenta and breastmilk. While the sample size of the study was limited to 131 people, it marks an important milestone in our understanding of how the vaccine will affect pregnant people and their children.
