Chrome is very popular among its users because of the many features it provides. One of its most prized features is the inbuilt PDF viewer that lets you view the files before downloading and removes the need for the installation of any third-party PDF viewer.

However, since Chrome moved away from Adobe’s NPAPI plugin to its own PDF viewer, there are some issues that pop up when trying to view PDF files when using the native PDF viewer. These problems can be of various sorts like auto-downloading PDFs, scrolling issues, and improper content loading.

We have shown a VIDEO walk through at the end of the post for easy solution.

If the PDF viewer opens but fails to load a PDF file, this solution may be for you.

Poor internet connection speed

Misbehaving extensions

Firstly, check if you have a poor internet connection. This may be the reason that your PDFs take a long time to load.

If the internet connection is fine and you are getting reliable speeds on other websites, there is possibly a broken extension that is causing the PDF viewer to malfunction.

To confirm is a broken extension is causing the mishap, there is a simple method to do so.

Now you need to disable the extensions and re-enable them one by one to pinpoint which extension is misbehaving.

This may sound tedious, but it is the best way to figure out what is wrong with your browser.

If no extensions are broken, or you have no extensions downloaded whatsoever, the next fix may be for you.

One of the most common reasons that this issue occurs is because Chrome is set to download the PDF files that you open instead of viewing them natively in the browser.

This setting may be changed for any reason whatsoever, but disabling this setting changes it back to viewing PDFs in the browser instead of downloading.

To change this setting, follow these steps:

Open Chrome settings from the hamburger menu (≡) at the top right corner.

Turn off the toggle switch next to Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome.

Restart your browser.

Now when you visit a PDF site, it should open the file in Chrome instead of downloading.

Note: However, if the URL hosting the PDF has set Attachment as its Content-Disposition header, the PDF from that website will be downloaded no matter what. Every other website apart from these will let you view the PDFs instead of downloading.

Since Google prioritizes user’s safety and data protection, the developers have provided with Chrome its own malware detection and removal tool.

To use the cleanup tool and find malware, visit the following site:

If there is no malware on your device, it is possible that the files necessary to run Chrome are broken or corrupted. If your browser has an outdated cache, it can show this error.

Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete key to open Chrome’s ‘Clear browsing data’

Here select the cookies and cached images and files stored for the browser.

6. If there is an update waiting, Chrome will detect it and prompt you to install it automatically.

This should solve the error you were having with PDFs not loading in the browser.

If this also does not solve your issue, you can alternatively use the Adobe PDF plugin to view files as well.

If any of the above fixes did not work for you, you can solve this error by using the adobe acrobat extension from the Chrome Webstore.

Note: If you already have Adobe PDF viewer on your system you don’t need to perform this step.

When you visit a webpage hosting a PDF file, a popup will display over the Chrome’s PDF viewer prompting you to open this page in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If you were also plagued with PDFs not opening in Chrome, now you know how to fix Chrome PDF viewer not working using the 5 fixes given above. Comment below to tell us which method solved your issue and discuss further for the same.

Chrome: Sound Not Working Through Headphones

Google Chrome is my default browser. I work from home, and I enjoy listening to my favorite playlists on Youtube while working.

One day, I experienced a really annoying technical issue. There was no sound coming from Chrome through my headphones. It took me 15 minutes to solve the problem. And this is how the idea of this guide came up.

By the way, setting up my headphones as the default output device for Chrome was the magic solution for me. So, you may want to jump straight to that method.

Fix Headphones Not Working on Google Chrome Unplug the Headphones and Restart the PC

Unplug your headphones from your computer. Then restart the computer. If this is only a temporary issue, restarting the device should fix it.

Make Sure Chrome Is Not Muted

Check if there’s a specific sound setting on your computer that mutes Chrome.

You should now see a list of volume controls for different programs.

Check if Chrome is on the list.

Unmute the volume for Chrome if it’s muted.

Refresh the browser and check if your headphones are working now.

Check If the Tab Is Muted

Check if you accidentally muted the tab where the sound is coming from. For example, if you’re listening to music on YouTube and have tens of tabs open, you may have accidentally muted the YouTube tab. If that’s the case, you should see a slash on the sound icon anyway.

Reset the App Volume Preferences for Chrome

Setting the app volume settings to default may help you to fix the audio issue with your headphones.

Navigate to Settings.

Then select System.

Scroll down to Advanced sound options.

Locate Chrome under App volume and device preferences.

Hit the Reset button to bring the audio settings back to Microsoft’s recommended default settings.

Set Your Headphones as the Default Device for Chrome

Setting your headphones as the default output device under the Chrome output section worked for many users.

Navigate to Settings → System → Sound.

Then go to Advanced sound options.

You should now see the App volume and device preferences.

Select your headphones to send sound from Chrome directly to your headphones.

Check Chrome’s Sound Settings

Then select Privacy and security.

Scroll down to Site settings.

Scroll all the way down to Additional content settings.

Locate the following option: Allow sites to play sound (recommended). Make sure the option is enabled (the toggle is blue).

As long that that option is enabled, the websites you’re visiting are allowed to play sound/music.

Check if there are any websites blocked under Mute. Remove them and check if the issue is gone.

Set Your Headphones as the General Output Device

Some users suggested that setting the headphones as the main output device solved the problem. Basically, you’re going to instruct Windows 10 to send all sound to the headphones.

Go to Settings.

Select System.

Under Output, select your headphones as the default output device.

Refresh Chrome and check if the issue is gone.

Update or Reinstall Your Sound Drivers

If your sound drivers are outdated or got corrupted, that might explain why you can’t use your headphones with Chrome.

Launch the Device Manager.

Go to Sound, video, and game controllers.

Expand the list of drivers.

Select Update Driver.

Restart your computer and reload Chrome.

If the issue persists, try reinstalling the driver. So, instead of Update driver, select Uninstall device this time around.

Restart your computer again and check if there’s sound coming through your headphones.

Disable Your Extensions and Clear the Cache

Your browser extensions might be interfering with the audio scripts of the websites you’re visiting on Chrome.

Turn off all your extensions and check if the audio problem persists.

Go to More tools.

Disable all your extensions one by one.

Close the browser and relaunch it.

If the issue is still there, try clearing the cache. Your browser cache might be blocking the audio scripts. Clearing it should help.

Select History.

Hit the Clear browsing data option.

Start by clearing the cache from the last 4 weeks. Check if you notice any improvements. If that did not help, clear all the cache. Select All time under Time range.

Reset Chrome

If you reached this step but could not fix the problem yet, you may need to reset your browser.

Go to Settings.

Type ‘reset’ in the search bar.

This action will disable all your extensions and clear your cache and cookies.

Hit the Reset settings button.

Restart your computer. Launch Chrome and check if your headphones are working now.

Reinstall Google Chrome

If nothing worked, try reinstalling Chrome. Maybe some files got so corrupted that the only solution is to install a fresh copy of the browser.

To uninstall Chrome, open the Control Panel.

Select Programs and Features.

Select Chrome.

Then hit the Uninstall button.

Then download a fresh copy of Chrome and install it.

Re-installing Chrome is the last resort solution. If that failed to fix your problem, we’re afraid you need to switch to a different browser.

Let us know if you can use your headphones on Chrome. Which solution worked for you? We’re really curious to read your answers.

Spell Check not working in Outlook

If Spell Check is not working in Outlook on your Windows 11/10 PC, then the following suggestions we have outlined below in no particular order should help you resolve the issue on your system.

Restart Outlook

Set Outlook Auto Check

Change the default language in Outlook

Run Spell Check manually

Disable Message Ignoring

Repair Outlook

Let’s see these suggestions in detail. Restart Outlook after each troubleshooting step to ensure that any changes are applied.

1] Restart Outlook

If Spell Check is not working in Outlook, you can restart Outlook and see if that helps.

2] Set Outlook Auto Check

Make sure Outlook is set to check your spelling every time you send an email message by following these steps:

Under Compose messages, check the Always check spelling before sending box.

You may also want to check or uncheck the Ignore original message text in reply or forward so it won’t flag spelling and grammar in those cases. If you select this automatic function, it will run when you select Send for each message.

3] Change the default language in Outlook

A linguistic difference could give the impression that the spell checker isn’t functioning properly. You might want to double-check what language Outlook is set to since it uses MS Word for writing. For instance, many terms are spelled somewhat differently in US English and UK English.

4] Run Spell Check manually 5] Disable Message Ignoring

Verify whether spell check overlooks any particular portions of your email messages. The tool might not function if Outlook is configured to disregard text in replies and forwarded messages.

To perform this task, do the following:

Clear the Ignore original message text in the reply or forward option under Compose messages.

6] Repair Outlook

This solution requires you to repair Microsoft Outlook and see if that helps in resolving the issue at hand. To repair Outlook on your Windows 11/10 PC, do the following:

Open Control Panel.

Restart PC after the repair operation completes.

You can also repair Office Outlook via the Settings app on Windows 11/10. Here’s how:

Are you having audio problems on your Mac, for example, when you want to play music? Please try the tips below. The troubleshooting steps below are listed in order. This means that you may want to start with the first step, and then continue to the next one if the first step doesn’t help.

Before you do anything, simply restart your Mac. This may fix your problem. You can restart your Mac by choosing Restart from the Apple menu.

1. Update your Mac

Please ensure that you’ve installed the latest macOS software updates on your Mac. Here is how:

2. Check your Sound settings

If you have multiple output devices available, please ensure that the correct one is selected. Select the appropriate (e.g., Internal Speakers – Built-in) one as the output device.

It is obvious but please ensure that the “Mute” box is not selected. Selecting this box will mute all sound. Maybe you have accidentally turned this on.

Another obvious step is to check if the volume is set too low. Find the Output Volume slider. Move the volume slider to the right to increase the volume.

And lastly, check your settings in Audio MIDI Setup. This app is located in the Applications / Utilities folder. You can also use Spotlight to open this app. Open the Audio MIDI Setup app. Select the Built-in Output from the Sidebar. Then ensure that none of the mute boxes are checked.

This is also called “non-volatile random-access memory” (NVRAM) or “parameter random-access memory” (PRAM). Resetting this may help you. Speaker volume information is stored in PRAM/NVRAM. Here is how:

Turn off your Mac.

Locate the following 4 keys, do not press them yet: Option, Command, P, and R.

Turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold these 4 keys: Option, Command, P, and R.

Keep holding these keys for 20 seconds.

If resetting NVRAM/PRAM does not help, then you can try to reset the SMC (System Management Controller).

4. Sound Controller

Restarting Sound Controller on your Mac may fix this problem. You can do this using the Activity Monitor app. Here is how:

5. Safe Mode

Startup your Mac in Safe Mode. Safe Mode, also called, Safe Boot, is a diagnostic mode that clears caches and repair disks. This may fix your problem. Here is how:

Turn off your Mac.

Turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold the Shift key.

Release the Shift key when the login screen appears.

Login to macOS.

Your Mac is in Safe Mode.

Test your sound problem. Does the problem you’re having still happen in Safe Mode? Or does the problem not occur in Safe Mode?

Now restart your Mac again. But this time, restart normally, without pressing the Shift key. This will cause your Mac to exit Safe Mode. Now test your problem again.

6. External Speakers

Are you having issues with external speakers, cabled or Bluetooth, such as speakers or headphones? If they are wired, check the cabling. A faulty cable may produce sound issues for you. If possible, try a different cable to isolate the problem. Also, try repeatedly inserting and removing the cable. Do this a few times to see if it makes any difference.

Try restarting your third-party audio devices.

If you are having a sound issue with a Bluetooth device, you may want to troubleshoot your Bluetooth connection. For example, you may want to reset the Bluetooth module.

If you are still having sound issues, hardware problems can be to blame for sound failures. Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service.

How do I change the scrollbar width on Firefox?

Firefox is one of the few browsers that allows you to change the scrollbar width in-app, and this helps when it seems to be not working. If you don’t want to change the value manually, download a relevant extension from the Mozilla add-ons store.

What can I do if the scrollbar width is not working in Firefox? 1. Modify the settings

If that doesn’t work on the other end, head to the solution listed next.

2. Add a code for it

The other way to fix scrollbar width when it’s not working in Firefox, especially when you set the value to none, is to add a few lines to both the HTML and body of your code. This will help hide the scrollbar in the most recent versions of Firefox.

Below is the code to add: html, body {overflow-y: scroll; Scrollbar-width: none;} body: :-webkit-scrollbar { width: 0; height: 0;}

This code is not limited to Firefox but also works well for setting the scrollbar width to hide the scrollbar.

What is the default scrollbar width?

There is no default scrollbar width. The value ranges from one browser to another across different operating systems.

The known range of the browsers’ default scrollbar width is from 12px to 17px. Also, most WebKit browsers allow users to change the value.

For instance, Chrome can have a custom scrollbar width depending on the user. So, the default value on your browser depends on the operating system and the app itself.

As a developer, losing control of the scrollbar width can make your website look disorganized to viewers. But with our solutions, you can get things running when the scrollbar width is not working in Firefox.
