Where is the Quick Shape Tool in Procreate

This tool is a bit of a magic trick. You must create a shape in order for the Quick Shape toolbar to appear. When it does appear, it will be in the center of your canvas, up the top directly underneath the main settings banner on Procreate.

Depending on which shape you create, you will get a different selection to choose from. Below I have selected three common shape types that you may use, so you can see what kind of options will appear and where.

Polyline

How to Use the Quick Shape Tool

This tool is very easy and quick to use once you get the hang of it. Follow the step-by-step below to start experimenting with this tool until you get the shape you want. You can repeat this method as many times as needed.

Step 1: Using your finger or stylus, draw the outline of your desired shape. Once you have done this, continue to hold down on your shape until it flips to a symmetrical shape. This should take about 1-2 seconds.

Note: Procreate will auto-recognize what shape you have created and it will appear at the top of your screen after you release your hold.

Step 2: Once you have completed step one, release your hold. Now a small tab will appear in the top center of your canvas that says Edit Shape. Tap on this.

Your shape options will now appear at the top of your canvas. You can tap on each shape option to see which one you wish to use. Once you have chosen, tap anywhere outside of your shape on the screen and it will close the Quick Shape tool.

Note: You can now use the ‘Transform’ tool (arrow icon) to move your shape around the canvas. You can also duplicate it, change the size, invert it or fill it if you wish.

If you’re looking for a quicker, simplified way of using this tool, look no further. There is a shortcut however, it doesn’t give you as much control or options over the outcome of your shape. But if you’re in a rush, try this method:

Step 2: Keeping your hold, use your other finger to tap on the screen. Your shape will flip to a symmetrical version of the shape you created. Hold this down until you’re happy with the size.

Step 3: You must release your first finger before you release the hold of your second finger. If you don’t do this, your shape will revert to its original shape and you will lose the symmetrical shape that you chose.

Helpful Notes About Quick Shape Tool

You cannot use this tool for organic shapes. It will automatically default to a Polyline shape. For example, if I draw a love heart shape and use the Quick Shape tool, it will not transform my love heart into a symmetrical shape. It will recognize the organic shape as a Polyline instead.

When you draw your shape and hold it down for 2 seconds to get your mechanical shape, you can adjust the size and angle of it by dragging it inwards or outwards on your canvas.

If you are looking for perfect symmetry, ensure you are closing your shape before using the Quick Shape tool. This means making sure that all lines are touching and connected and that there are no visible gaps in your outline shape.

Step 10: In this step, I am going to explain very important and useful option Trim paths; let me tell something about the trim path; some of the users who use aftereffects rarely may don’t know about this because it hides under the shape submenu, this tool allows you to adjust the layer paths. We can do multi animations with this trim path like Map route, infographic, text stroke, text box, circle bursts.

Step 11: In this Trim path, there are two main options start and end.

Step 12: Now, change the values of start and end.

Step 13: Here, we change the values of start and end.

Step 15: At the starting point, increase the value of End to 20 now; we can find a small line.

Step 16: When we move from start to end position, we can see the animation of the line moving from starting to end like a snake.

Step 17: Here, we have the vector mode to edit the values to make our animation smoother.

In this process, we saw how a shape is animated with the help of a pen tool, here we draw a line with a pen tool; with the help of a path, we create a shape, and we use trim paths to animate that line by changing starting and ending points. Not the only shape we can animate a particle with the help of a pen tool.

Step 1: Import any of the objects which you willing to animate; here, I am importing a ball.

Step 2: We can animate the object with keyframe animation by changing the start and end position; it’s a basic normal process anyone can do.

But if you need to do something different or creative animation, just go through the pen tool.

Step 3: Select the shape layer where we are going to draw a path for our animation.

Step 4: Select the pen tool to draw the shape.

Step 5: Now draw a shape according to our animation requirement, we have imported a ball object, so I draw a shape of up and down because I feel that the ball need to fall from up to down and jump step by step so I started the first point at the top and draw an up and down shape and ends at a corner where the ball needs to stop.

Here you can see how the shape is; in this shape, the ball is going to travel, you can find the first point out of the screen where the ball travels from out of the screen.

Step 6: For every object, there will be a centre point; in this process, we need to change the centre point to the bottom because we have an object ball; if the ball has a center point in the middle while touching the ground, its center point will meet the ground where it won’t look professional, so I changed the center point if we have any other object we can change the center point according to the requirement.

Step 7: Go to the Shape Layer, Contents, shape – Path 1 – Path. Select the path and copy, make sure both the path is selected while copying.

Now the ball is hidden because while applying the path copy to position to the ball, it moves in that path.

Step 9: By adjusting the key points in the timeline, we can manage the animation like fast starting and slow at the end.

A new layer dialog box will open. Set the width and height of the background layer according to your requirements.

Take color mode as RGB Color.

And set Background content as White. I am taking this setting for the brighter look of my logo.

The layer will be unlocked.

Now I will apply Gradient to this layer. Go to this icon at the bottom of the layer section.

A drop-down list will open; choose Gradient from here.

I will choose Black and White as a gradient. You can choose any one of them, which suits your logo.

Take the Radial option as the style of the gradient.

I want white in the center and black on the outer side of the document, so I will try tickmark to select Reverse.

Increase the scale parameter for a smooth spreading of a gradient in the outer direction.

This is our final gradient.

Now take a Text Tool from the Tool Panel.

Take the text font style according to your choices.

Next, I will set Bold Italics as style.

Next, set the size of the logo according to your requirement.

Now the text layer has become an image layer.

Take the Polygon tool from the tool panel.

Select the letter A for separating it from this layer.

Now two separate Layers of letter A and letter V will be generated.

Now name both the layers for our better understanding.

Now we will cut the letter A from the side to give it a logo look. Take a polygon tool and make a selection as I have done.

Press the Delete button on the keyboard to cut the selected area of the letter A.

Now press Ctrl+D on the keyboard to select the selected area of letter A.

Now come on to layer V.

A previous selection will be activated automatically for the V layer.

Now press the Ctrl+Shift+I button on the keyboard to reserve the selection because I want to cut the whole area of this layer around V.

Press the Delete key on the keyboard to delete the selected area.

Now use the Move Tool and move the letter V according to you to give a professional look to your logo.

Now take the circle tool.

Draw it according to the size of the logo.

Turn off the Fill option.

Take black color like color of the stroke and increase the thickness of the stroke according to you.
