Suggested January 2024 Family Ties Earn This Smart Cover Knock

Apple is suing “the copyist” Samsung because they “imitate the appearance of Apple’s products to capitalize on Apple’s success”. Be that as it may, the similarities between the two tech giant’s gadgets are nothing compared to what other Asian knockoffs are doing for a living. Like Anymode Corp., which is in the business of designing, manufacturing and selling a blatant Smart Cover rip-off, pictured above and below. Conveniently dubbed the Smart Case – obviously because Apple trademarked it – the accessory comes in five pastel color choices. It too can prop a tablet upwards and it folds like Apple’s accessory as well. The Smart Case is designed exclusively for Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 – and not by a coincidence, warns our reader Jun.

Apparently Sang-yong Kim, the Anymode CEO, was “born in Samsung family”. Jun tells us – and you’re free to take it at face value – that the Anymode CEO “is nephew of the Samsung’s chairman Kun-Hee Lee“, the claim we were unable to verify at the time of this writing. UPDATE: This Asian Economy article establishes family bonds between Sang-yong Kim and Kun-Hee Lee. The 69-year old chairman of Samsung Electronics stepped down in April 2008 amid the Slush funds scandal, but returned at the group’s helm in March of last year. He is credited for improving the quality of Samsung’s design and products. Anymode is not even attempting to conceal the Samsung link. The company describes itself on a LinkedIn page as…

…a privately held firm founded in Korea in 2007, with “strong affiliation with Samsung Electronics for key accessories supplier globally”. And with strong business partnership with Samsung Electronics, “business has been grow rapidly and becoming one of fastest growing company that covers international retail channels with key distributors world-wide”, their business profile on LinkedIn boasts. Youngbo Engineering is Anymode’s parent company where Sang-yong Kim is also president and CEO. Youngbo too provides solutions for Samsung, including mobile phone accessories such as earphones, batteries, Bluetooth items and other products, a BusinessWeek profile has established. Furthermore, reader Jun explains, Anymode is selling its products in Samsung’s A/S center all over Korea. One final thing: Samsung has apparently certified the Smart Case, as evident in the use of official branding in the two bottom shots. Somebody call Apple legal…

As a general practice, Samsung Electronics reviews and approves all accessories produced by partners before they are given the “Designed for Samsung Mobile” mark. In this case, approval was not given to Anymode for the accessory to feature this official designation. We are working with Anymode to address this oversight and the product has already been removed from the Anymode sales website. The product has not been sold.

UPDATE 2: A reader translated a paragraph from the aforementioned Asian Economy article divulging family ties:

Sang-yong Kim, CEO of the Anymode Corp., is the first son of Son-hee Lee, the third daughter of former Samsung’s chairman Beoung-chul, Lee. He ran the company through selling the Samsung mobile phone’s accessories and is also nephew of current chairman Gun-hee, Lee and in relation as a cousin of Jae-young, Lee, CEO of the Samsung Electronics.

Review: Burkley Leather Smart Folio Cover For 12.9

All Apple offered this year, however, was a silicone Smart Folio. This has a back as well as a front, and the rubbery material really isn’t pleasing at all.

No-one has yet offered a third-party version of what I really want – a simple leather Smart Cover – so I decided to try the next best thing: a leather Smart Folio case …

Burkley’s Turner Smart Leather Folio Cover isn’t quite a leather version of Apple’s own product, so let’s start with the differences.

Apple Smart Folio

The Apple version is a Smart Cover on the front with a rear protector. It leaves three of the sides of the iPad exposed, along with the corners.

The iPad attaches to the Folio magnetically, which makes it very quick to snap on and off.

The Apple cover is available in a choice of charcoal (dark grey), white, and Pink Sand (light pink).

Cost: $99.

Burkley Turner Smart Leather Folio Cover

The Burkley cover, in contrast, is an iPad case with Smart Cover. It has four corner protectors, and the sides are recessed, meaning that it offers good all-round protection.

Against this, however, it is fiddlier to insert and remove the iPad. Once you’re used to it, it only takes a few seconds, but it does feel like a bit more effort and is a little less convenient.

The Burkley cover is available in brown (polished mid-brown), distressed brown (matte coffee), khaki (polished tan) and black (also polished).

Cost: $119.

Look & feel

There’s no substitute for leather, in my book. Comparing the look of the Burkley cover with the Apple one, they are just night and day. The Burkley one looks like a far more premium product. Plus, you know, that lovely leather smell.

The exterior of the cover is 100% cowhide leather, which resists moisture better than other leathers, so offers a little reassurance if you ever find yourself caught out by rain when carrying the iPad without a bag. The exposed sides mean you wouldn’t want to rely on it for more than a few seconds, but it’s certainly better than nothing

I normally prefer matte leather to polished, but in this case the polished brown matched my cycle bag, so I opted for that.

The interior is micro fiber leather, which also looks good and protects the iPad from scratches when inserting and removing. Between the two is a thin plastic case.

There’s a small magnetic leather flap that wraps around the front/bottom – more on this in a moment.

In use

I’ve mentioned the main difference between this and Apple’s version: greater protection versus a slight loss of convenience in attaching and detaching. It’s also noticeably thicker than the Apple cover.

The four speakers and three buttons are all exposed, so usability isn’t affected at all.

The Smart Cover snaps closed magnetically just like the Apple one, but there’s also that magnetic flap. This is primarily there to offer a bit more security for the Apple Pencil, but it does look good too.

However, it’s a little inconvenient in use, as you have to tuck it under the back of the iPad to avoid it getting in your way when using the iPad in typing mode. If I routinely carried the Pencil, I’d be glad of it, but as I don’t I’d on balance rather not have it. I’m a little tempted to take a sharp knife and remove it.

The Smart Cover is a little stiffier/springier than the Apple one, so doesn’t fold quite as neatly. However, it works well on both lap and desk in typing orientation.

It’s also secure in vertical stand aka movie mode, though that flap is a bit of a nuisance at first, as it can flop forward over the screen. This was only an issue the first time I used it in that mode – after that, bending it back a few times saw it stay put, though it is still a little visually distracting standing up above the screen like that.

Price and conclusions

Given that Apple charges $99 for its silicone Smart Folio (less on Amazon), just $20 more for a leather one seems a no-brainer.

As someone who only uses the Apple Pencil occasionally, I’d prefer it without the front flap, but that’s really my only complaint – and those who carry the Pencil around with them will definitely appreciate it.

The Burkley Leather Smart Folio Cover for 12.9-inch iPad Pro is available from the company’s own website for $119. The 11-inch version is available for $99/119 depending on color. Other versions for older iPad models are also available.

8 Best Play To Earn Crypto Games

Play-to-Earn (P2E) crypto games are not only fun; they are also profitable. Unlike traditional video gaming, where your most outstanding achievements would be in-game assets and completing quests, play-to-earn gaming allows you to make real money from your gaming exploits in the crypto space.

You can earn crypto for playing anything from pet-centered games to 3D metaverse games and even fitness games, and it is up to you to decide what to do with your rewards. So, if you are curious to explore blockchain games that can earn you some extra cash, here is a list of the eight best play-to-earn games and their features, pros, and cons.

Best Play to Earn Crypto Games 1) Axie Infinity – Best PVP NFT Crypto Game

Axie Infinity is a thrilling play-to-earn game in a digital universe where players collect pets called Axies to battle players. Sky Mavic designed Axie Infinity to offer varied fun experiences, including building kingdoms, breeding, raising, and battling. It also offers rewards in the form of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs).

Gameplay:

Axie Infinity gameplay goes all in where skill and competitiveness are concerned. To start playing Axie Infinity, you need to find an Axie capable of destroying your opponents. There are six pure Axie breeds, each with six body parts with different stats. So, you need to be crafty in choosing your pet to stand a chance at taking down your competition.

After you get your Axie set, it’s time to train in Adventure mode. This is where your pet battles AI Axie to increase its “Experience” (XP) for the next part of the game, which is Arena mode. This mode pairs you with players with the same Matchmaking Rating (MMR).

In this end, the more opponents you defeat in player-versus-player (PVP) mode, the higher your MMR and the heavier your wallet grows.

Earning Potential:

The earning potential on Axie Infinity is attached to your skill in playing the game. MMR is the value that indicates your skill level and dictates the amount of money you can make from playing Axie Infinity. You can also farm form to earn crypto assets.

Typically, you will start the game with an MMR of 1200, earning you 3 Smooth Love Potion (SLP) tokens, the in-game currency. Every time you win battles. SLP is the Axie Infinity native token. 3SLP is about $0.015. Losing the game lowers your MMR but doesn’t reduce the SLP in your wallet.

Here’s a breakdown of how much SLP you can make for every win in the game.

2) The Sandbox – Best Crypto Game for Monetization

The Sandbox is one of the top crypto play-to-earn games that blend creativity and monetization. This multiplayer metaverse game allows players to earn money from NFT gaming. Pixowl launched the Sandbox in 2011 as a way to introduce people to blockchain technology via virtual gaming.

However, this blockchain-based game is now a thriving digital economy that allows players to create and monetize digital multiplayer gaming experiences and voxel assets.

Gameplay:

This multiverse gaming NFT project bases its gameplay on the creativity of its players. In the Sandbox, you can create virtual worlds, complete with characters, buildings, art, events, and resources, and determine the interactions within the world. The result is an unlimited collection of games in the game.

To enable gameplay, The Sandbox first requires game owners to attach their game to a particular plot of Sandbox land. A plot of land on The Sandbox measures 1×1, or 96×96 in-game meters, where one meter is 32x32x32 voxels or 3D pixels. Moreover, you don’t have to own land to create a game on it; instead, you can simply rent it.

Earning Potential:

Creativity is king in The Sandbox, which is how you make money in the game. The first way to make money in the game is to create NFTs and sell them on the marketplace. Your payout will be in SAND, the game-in-game currency.

The marketplace has NFTs worth as little as $0.97 or as much as $4826. As a result, you can price your NFTs anywhere within this range and find a willing buyer. You can also monetize The Sandbox by buying land and renting or selling it at a profit to other players. There are no standard rates for selling or renting land in the game.

However, the highest price a 1×1 plot has ever sold for on The Sandbox is 100 ETH. The land, owned by The Yacht’s King Domain, fetched about $279,282 at the time of sale.

Features:

You can create multiple multiplayer gaming experiences

It enables you to develop and build infrastructure on Sandbox lands

Host social experiences and virtual events

Create and trade voxel art

👍 Pros 👎 Cons

Gamers can create and participate in infinite gaming experiences The utility token, SAND, has limited use outside the game

The game provides support for creativity in developing There’s a high possibility of finding scammers in the game

The game has impressive community interaction

3) Decentraland – Best Metaverse Game with Huge Potential

Decentraland is one of the most popular virtual gaming metaverses. The game’s native token is MANA. Created by Ariel Meilich and Esteban Ordano, this play-to-earn game is a virtual destination for digital assets. Decentraland enables players to develop and monetize their immersive virtual real estate.

Gameplay:

The Decentraland gameplay revolves around the availability of 90,601 individual plots of LAND. On these lands, you can create stunning scenery, buildings, art, and almost any other NFT that your gaming imagination allows.

With these digital assets, Decentraland gamers can create gaming challenges, social experiences, and even events that can earn them some cash when other players participate.

Decentraland also provides a builder tool and the Decentraland marketplace that bring the Decentraland gameplay to life. You can use the builder tool to create NFTs, then trade these NFTs in the marketplace and earn Mana.

Earning Potential:

The most lucrative way to make money on Decentraland is to buy land and sell it at a profit. Buying a plot of land in the game can cost about $3,000. However, if you purchase land in a desirable area, you can sell it as much as you wish.

The highest land sale price in Decentraland went for a record $2.43 million, doubling the previous record of $913,000.

Selling NFTs on Decentraland can also make you some decent cash. Typical prices for NFTs in the marketplace range from less than a dollar to at least $266,000. This range is wide enough to allow flexible pricing and leave room for profits.

Features:

Create unlimited versions of games and experiences.

Design art landscapes, buildings, and infrastructure on lands

Supports the creation and trading of NFTs and other in-game items

You can create and monetize events and other social experiences

👍 Pros 👎 Cons

The game offers unique gameplay Lands lack uniqueness when it comes to terrain

Players can create and participate in infinite gaming experiences Limited player interaction

In-game NFT auctions that make it easier to earn from NFT sales

4) Splinterlands – Best Prime Mover Blockchain Game With The Most Players

Splinterlands is an impressive player-versus-player trading card game. In this game, players can buy, collect, or trade cards called “Splinters,” which they use to compete with opponents.

This NFT gaming title was created by co-founders Jesse Reich and Matthew Rosen in 2023 and has gained a decent fan base since then.

Gameplay:

Splinterlands is a catch for card game lovers because its entire gameplay revolves around cards. The game has two types of cards, the summoner’s card and its corresponding monster’s card.

A player can hold both but can only use one at a time. When a player uses their summoner’s card, the player holding the corresponding monster’s card is summoned to battle. Every card comes from one of the game’s seven environments, called Splinters. You can also earn these card packs by participating in daily quests and battle mode to unlock more creatures to compete with.

Besides earning card packs, winning these tournaments increases a player’s skill level, increasing the amount of Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) they can earn from the game. Dark Energy is the in-game digital currency in Splinterlands.

Earning Potential:

When it comes to earning, Splinterlands offers two alternatives. The first is to win as many tournaments and battles as possible to gain DEC. The other is to sell NFTs on Splinterlands’ marketplace.

The problem with the first method is that it is slow and generates very little profit. Selling NFTs, however, can be very lucrative. Depending on their rarity, magic, health, and attack levels, cards can be worth as little as $19 or as much as $17,800.

Features:

You can play, Trade, and Earn anywhere at any time.

Fight with monsters to earn rewards

You can game plays in any browser

Trade cards on Splinterlands’ marketplace

5) Illuvium – Best Upcoming Crypto Game

Gameplay:

It has one of the most interesting gameplays compared to other NFT games. The game runs on a fascinating blend of RPG action and planetary exploration. After surviving a wrecked spaceship, the player finds themselves on a ruined planet called Illuvium. This planet has creatures called Illuvials with extraterrestrial powers.

The general task when a player lands on Illuvium is to find an Illuviary, which lists all the names of the Illuvials. Using the captured Illuvials, you can make a powerful team and compete in PVP gameplay and other missions. It helps you to earn fighting points, which you can convert to Illuvium’s native token, ILV.

Earning Potential:

Illuvium is a great way to earn money through blockchain gaming. The play-to-earn mechanics on Illuvium involves giving in-game rewards to players for completing challenges. Although it is a fun way to earn, it doesn’t give a lot of profit.

To increase profit margins, Illuvium players can opt to stake ILV. However, the rewards you will earn from staking ILV depend on the staking duration. The amount of ILV you stake and prevailing market circumstances. On estimate, however, you can earn about 3.04 % APY for ILV.

Features:

Explore an open-world intergalactic-themed RPG game.

Capture mythical creatures and use them to battle other players

Collect in-game NFTs like Shards, ores, and gemstones and trade them to the in-game marketplace

Motorsport racing is well represented in the play-to-earn space through titles like Revv Racing. This game is one of the latest add-ons to the range of racing metaverse games offered by its parent company, Animoca Brands. Revv Racing allows players to make money from winning racing tournaments or selling race car NFTs.

Gameplay:

Besides having NFT cars and recording races on the blockchain, Revv Racing isn’t very different from traditional video game racing when it comes to gameplay.

This arcade simulation racing game focuses on getting players to compete in multiple racing tournaments. Its features and the overall feel are a lot like what PC racing games offer.

Earning Potential:

Selling Revv Racing’s NFT cars is the surest way to make money in the game. Players can connect to OpenSea to trade Revv Racing NFTs. On Opensea, you can sell your race car NFTs based on the market prices, which range between $2 and $110,881.

Features:

3D racing game with blockchain assets

First and third-person racing views

Playable on gaming consoles like PlayStation and Xbox

👍 Pros 👎 Cons

High potential for growth and profit generation The game is still new, so it is prone to bugs

Cross-device compatibility for mobile and gaming consoles This motorsport blockchain game doesn’t have an in-game marketplace because it is still in its alpha version.

Key Specs:

Free to Play: Yes

7) Battle of Guardians – Best Real-Time Multiplayer NFT game

Battle of Guardians ranks highly on the list of NFT multiplayer games. Developed by Unreal Engine, this real-time game focuses on epic in-game fighting and rewards players when they complete quests and win tournaments.

Gameplay:

The gameplay in Battle of Guardians is set in a fiery multi-realm virtual gaming world. The game has three characters: Guardians, Humans, and Demons. All these characters have a unique trait, with Guardians having more damage stats, humans having more intelligence, and demons having higher health stats.

In the gameplay, players battle as one of the characters to earn the Battle of Guardians’ Share (BGS), the game’s in-game currency and governance token. Earning BGS depends on a player’s skill level, also known as a tier. There are three tiers, Elite Fighter, Legendary Warrior, and God of War, which is the tier that earns the highest rewards.

Earning Potential:

The Battle of Guardians has multiple ways you can use it to make money. The most common income-generating activity in the game is participating in battles and completing quests for BGS rewards.

However, the game also has NFTs that gamers can trade on the in-game marketplace for profit. These NFTs are mostly characters or other in-game items at amazing prices.

There’s also the possibility of renting out characters to other players, then getting a cut of the profits they earn from playing. Renting NFT characters in Battle of Guardians is an easy way to earn passive income. It also provides an opportunity to enjoy the game when you don’t have enough money to buy powerful characters.

Features:

Real-time multiplayer fighting

NFT Synthesis, which allows the fusing of two characters into a stronger character

Scholarships that allow players to play for free and earn rewards

Multiple game modes make the game thrilling

NFT marketplace for trading characters

👍 Pros 👎 Cons

Dynamic game scenes The gameplay isn’t like the original game

Allows NFT renting, which creates an avenue for players to make passive income The game doesn’t have much room to expand its gameplay

Players can synthesize NFTs, allowing them to make new and more sophisticated NFTs There isn’t a detailed roadmap to show the game’s future development.

8) My Neighbor Alice – Best Multiplayer P2E Blockchain Games

My Neighbor Alice is a fun play-to-earn crypto game. The game offers a laid-back approach, allowing players to own land, carry out farm activities and interact with each other. This farming-based game is the brainchild of the Swedish-based interactive mobile game studio Antler Interactive.

Gameplay:

Playing My Neighbor Alice typically involves owning land and other farm-related activities. In My Neighbor Alice, players can keep bees, go fishing, or even build on their land to make it as farm-like as possible. To get the resources they need, players use the ALICE token to make purchases in the game’s marketplace.

Earning Potential:

This multiplayer builder game forms an interesting economic system, and trading NFTs is the most efficient way to benefit from it. Land is the most lucrative NFT on My Neighbor Alice, and you can sell it at a profit on the marketplace.

There are also avatar NFTs and in-game assets that you can trade for profits. Profit margins will depend on the type of asset you are selling. It also depends on how rare it is on the market and how helpful other players find it.

Features:

Brave Search Cuts Ties With Bing & Goes Independent

Brave Search, the offspring of the privacy-focused browser Brave, has announced a significant leap forward in its evolution.

It now boasts complete independence from other search engines, a remarkable achievement in the world of search.

Brave Search: A Brief History

The journey towards independence for Brave Search began in 2023 following the acquisition of Tailcat’s search engine and development team.

To create a fully independent search engine, Brave set out on a path that culminated in the launch of Brave Search Beta in June 2023.

The search engine launched as a privacy-focused, transparent alternative to established search giants like Google.

Since its introduction, the Brave team has introduced numerous features to its search engine.

These include Discussions, allowing real-human conversations to appear in search results, Brave Search Goggles for customized results, and Brave Search Summarizer for AI-powered quick results.

Fast forward to today, Brave Search has reached a pivotal moment. The search engine now relies entirely on its index for all results.

Previously, about 7% of queries were sourced from Bing Search, but Brave has now cut all connections to the Bing API, cementing its independence.

The Web Discovery Project has been instrumental in reaching this milestone. The project has helped Brave Search’s index grow by allowing users to contribute browsing data anonymously.

Brave Search is handling 22 million daily queries, a testament to its rapidly expanding user base.

Why Independence Matters

The increasing costs and uncertainties around Bing’s API access were significant motivators for Brave in striving for independence.

Being independent means Brave has complete control over its search engine, and its index powers all the search results.

Looking towards the future, Brave plans to launch the Brave Search API, offering developers and companies access. However, the specifics regarding pricing and the availability of a free option are yet to be announced.

Brave intends to keep its search engine as the main search tool on its browser and keep it free for everyone.

In Summary

Brave Search relying on its own index and not on the big search engine companies is a big deal.

What makes Brave Search different is that the company behind it puts users in control and is open about how it works, which isn’t common in an industry run by huge companies.

As Brave keeps coming up with new ideas, it could change how we find information online.

Can You Share Airtag With Family?

Apple has always made tracking your family members easy with its Find My service and with the addition of AirTags, you can now also keep track of non-Apple items in your possession. Since AirTags also employ Find My in their own way, you may expect them to work flawlessly when sharing them with your family or friends. But do they really do? Can you share your AirTags with others in your family or friend circle? That’s what we’re going to talk about in this post.

What is an AirTag?

Available for $29, Apple’s tracking device is powered by an Apple U1 chip, NFC, Bluetooth, and Accelerometer. Because of these chips and sensors, AirTags can be quickly and precisely tracked with inch-perfection using the Find My app on your iOS devices. The tracking system is also configured with a Lost mode which when activated notifies you whenever your item is detected by other devices in Apple’s network and also allows others to return the item back to you by getting your contact info via NFC.

There’s a built-in speaker that you can use to play a sound for locating an AirTagged item hidden inside your house. The puck-shaped device is IP67 water-resistant and can thus survive 1 meter underwater for 30 minutes. AirTags are customizable in such a way that when purchasing one, you can choose from over 56 different emoji and icon options in addition to alphabets and numbers that you can engrave on the front.

Related: Unknown Accessory Detected Near You: What is it?

No. If you’ve been wondering whether AirTags can be shared like other things you use with Family Sharing, then we hate to break it to you, you cannot share AirTags with other members of your family at the time. Although this seems like a pretty good idea, Apple is yet to implement an option to share AirTags with family members, something Tile and other services do offer with their own lineup.

Apple’s dedicated Family Sharing service currently allows you and up to five other family members to share access to its services including iCloud storage, Apple Music, Apple TV+, shared albums on Photos, Apple News+, Apple Arcade, Apple Card, iTunes, Apple Books, and App Store purchases. However, this service doesn’t offer the ability to share AirTags that are registered to one account, even if the person you want to share it with is a member of your family or friends circle.

Related: What Does ‘Live’ Mean on Find My Friends on iOS 15 on iPhone?

While Apple hasn’t provided an official explanation for this limitation, we believe it has a lot to do with ensuring your privacy. Since AirTags are meant to track your personal possessions, some may not want them accessible by others, and making them shareable would also make them vulnerable to tracking by external parties.

On the hardware side of things, most of AirTag’s tracking functionalities rely on its Bluetooth sensor and U1 wide-band chip, both of which help access its relative location by communicating with other Apple devices scattered across the region. So, if Apple plans to release support for Family Sharing on AirTags anytime in the future, there’s nothing on the hardware front that should stop it.

What happens when someone else uses your AirTag?

That’s because, in addition to letting your track your own AirTag, Apple has designed these devices to alert others when a stray AirTag is tracking them without their knowledge.

If the person you shared your AirTag carries them around, their iPhone will be able to detect this AirTag but it will label them as “unknown” because this AirTag belongs to you and your Apple ID.

If you only plan to lend the item with an AirTag to someone you know for a few days, this person can disable this alert from showing up on their devices by opening the Find My app, selecting the Me tab at the bottom, and then turning off the Item Safety Alerts toggle under the ‘Notifications’ section.

To confirm your decision, tap on Disable from the dialog that appears.

If you suspect that there are other AirTags that are tracking your location, you can check out this post to find them.

Related: How to Find Airtags That Are Tracking You

The most obvious way of using AirTags is to locate all of your keys. However, if you don’t live by yourself and share your house with your roommate, family, or friends and they all share the keys to your house (or even a car), then it’s necessary that others can also track them without needing your help. Since they’re made to track your personal items, AirTags can be used to track not just keys but anything that’s not already built with Find My.

Another use-case for sharing AirTags is to track your pet by attaching one to its collar. If your dog gets out of the house and you’re not at home, your family won’t be able to track it from their iPhone or Apple devices. At this time, would you prefer adding multiple AirTags on the dog’s collar or just one Airtag that lets all of your family track the pet?

Since family members can already track each other’s devices using Find My, AirTags would only upgrade the app’s functionality if it supports shareable tracking. And it’s not just Family Sharing, support for being tracked by multiple users can also be broadcasted to people other than the ones in your Family Sharing group.

For instance, you have a device like a headphone that you lent to someone for a short period. If you AirTagged this headphone, only you will be able to track it inside Find My. However, it would be helpful for the person you lent it to if they could also track it from their iPhone during this period.

That’s why it doesn’t make sense to restrict AirTag’s functionality to a single Apple/iCloud account. Given how much Apple stresses Family Sharing, it only sounds right if AirTags are also shared between members of your family as this will help all of your household track items that you generally share with each other.

How else can you use Family Sharing to locate others

Although AirTag support may help improve location tracking within Family Sharing, there are still other ways you can find the location of someone who’s linked to your Family Sharing group. Family Sharing your location requires that all devices run on iOS 13 or later and Find My service enabled on all of them.

1. Share your location with family

On this screen, turn on the Share My Location toggle.

To make sure the current device is what’s sharing your location status, select Use This iPhone as My Location.

For sharing a location with someone in your family, select the name of the person from the list that appears and tap on Share My Location.

If you wish to share your whereabouts with multiple people, repeat the above step.

After you’re done sharing your location, you can stop giving access to your location by selecting the person’s name and then tapping on Stop Sharing My Location on the screen.

2. View someone’s location from your family group

If someone in Family Sharing has sent you access to their device’s whereabouts, you can locate them by opening the Find My app and selecting the Devices tab at the bottom.

Inside this screen, you should see a bunch of people and their devices whose GPS coordinates are shared with you for constant tracking. Simply select the device you want to track and get notified about and you’ll get a bunch of options to follow it up with.

How to transfer your AirTag to someone else

AirTags that are linked to you can only be used by someone else when you unlink it from your Apple ID. So, if you wish to share an AirTag or an item linked to your AirTag with your family and friends, the only way to share it with them is by removing it from your account and letting them set it up on their Apple device.

Before you do this, you need to note that transferring AirTags is only necessary if you don’t wish to use an item with an AirTag or have spare AirTags that you no longer use. If someone is only burrowing an item that has an AirTag for a couple of days, it doesn’t make sense to unlink them from your account permanently.

Resetting AirTags that are within Bluetooth range

Resetting AirTags that are out of Bluetooth range

The above step should be more than enough if the AirTag and your iPhone are well under the former’s Bluetooth range. If not, you will have to manually reset it before others can use it. You can use the steps below to reset an AirTag that belonged to someone else or is linked to an existing Apple ID.

To reset an AirTag manually, press down on its battery cover and rotate it counterclockwise until it stops rotating. Once that’s done, take off the AirTag cover and its battery. After a few seconds, you can now reinsert this battery and press it down until you hear a chirping sound.

Repeat this for another 4 rounds and you’ll hear a sound coming out of the AirTag a total of 5 times. After the fifth round, leave the battery in and place the cover by aligning the 3 tabs on the cover with the 3 slots on the AirTag. Press down the cover and rotate it clockwise until it’s in the lock position.

Your AirTag has now been reset and can now be linked to another Apple device/ID.

Set up AirTag as new

To add an AirTag to someone’s iPhone, bring the AirTag close to your iPhone/iPad and tap on the Connect button.

In the popup that appears, select Add AirTag.

The app will now search for an AirTag around you, so make sure your iPhone and AirTag are in close proximity.

That’s all you need to know about sharing Apple AirTags with your family.
