How To Fix “This Setting Is Managed By Your Administrator” In Windows

Fortunately, you don’t have to be an installation specialist to solve this problem, although it involves a few minor technical edits. We will go through these fixes one by one, from the most obvious solutions to the registry editing steps.

What Is the “This Setting Is Managed by Your Administrator” Issue?

Contrary to the way it sounds, “This setting is managed by your administrator” has nothing to do with whether or not you are logged in as an administrator. It has more to do with certain unpredictable errors which affect Windows Defender.

There are different indications of this error. For example, when you launch “Windows Security” settings from the search box menu and go to “Reputation-based protection,” some of the options will be grayed out.

Here, one of the settings, “Check apps and files,” has been disabled. This is a very important setting, as SmartScreen checks for unrecognized apps and files, and you can’t manage your PC without accessing this control.

On Windows 11 devices, when the toggle is off, the system will display a “Check apps and files is off. Your device may be vulnerable” message.

Windows 11 devices also have built-in “Exploit protection” for added security. If any of its settings are turned off by default, the system will immediately prompt you for a restart.

Similar settings may be disabled for “Real-time Protection” or “Automatic Sample Submission.” To solve these issues, we are exploring various troubleshooting steps.

2. Disable Other Antivirus Software

If you have a third-party antivirus, it may be affecting Windows Defender, as the latter’s Real-time Protection feature will be turned off by default. You may need to disable or uninstall the antivirus temporarily to remove the error. You can reinstall it later. Consider that Windows Defender itself is a very reliable antivirus and compatible with existing Windows 10 and 11 systems.

3. Solve Using Registry Editor

If the first two steps do not solve the issue, then one of the best ways to solve “This setting is managed by your administrator,” is to tweak the registry for Windows Defender. We will be temporarily deleting the registry files for Windows Defender.

Launch the Registry Editor app from the Windows 10/11 search box by typing “regedit.” It’s better to run it in Administrator mode. You may also open Registry Editor by typing Win + R and then entering “regedit.”

Registry Editor

Once the Registry Editor app is open, navigate to the path shown in the screen below: “ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindows Defender.”

Create a new folder on your desktop or anywhere else on the system. In this example, the folder is “Regedit Check.”

Export the registry file for the Windows Defender key in the recently created folder. It’s in .reg format.

Repeat the procedure for all the sub-keys under “Windows Defender.” As shown here, we are exporting the Registry file for “Policy Manager.” Make sure the subkey name is exactly the same as in the Registry Editor.

Depending on your Windows 10 or Windows 11 system, there may be more subkeys. Make the backup for each and every item.

Once you have the backup, you have to delete the “Windows Defender” key. Don’t worry about losing files – it’s only temporary; that’s why we made a backup.

4. Disable Any Windows Defender Configurations in Local Group Policy Editor

The Local Group Policy Editor in Windows allows you to configure administrator settings that were accidentally turned on/off. Only Windows Professional (Pro) and higher edition users can access this tweak.

Issue Resolved: “This Setting is Managed by Your Administrator”

Restart your system and go back to the “Reputation-based protection” menu. You will see that you can now enable/disable the SmartScreen freely, as the “Check apps and files” screen is now active once again.

Also, under “Virus & Threat Protection Settings,” Real-time and Cloud protection are re-enabled.

“Memory integrity” in “Core isolation” should also appear enabled in Windows 11 and supported Windows 10 hardware. It may require a restart to achieve it.

Frequently Asked Questions How do I fix “Some settings are managed by your organization” in Windows?

“Some settings are managed by your organization” is an error status similar to “This setting is managed by your administrator.” It affects Windows Pro/Enterprise/Education users as a few policies are enforced bypassing their user privilege status. The only way to fix this status is to use the Local Group Policy Editor where the user needs to reset any misconfiguration in Windows Defender policies for their devices.

If you don’t have access to the Local Group Policy Editor app, contact a system administrator for help fixing the problem.

How do I fix other Windows administration problems?

The only way to fix any Windows administration issues is to ensure that you’ve indeed logged in as an administrator. This may require deleting any hidden local accounts from your User Account Control (UAC). All of them can be accessed from the Run command menu, by typing Win + R and then entering netplwiz.

Windows Security Settings In Windows 10

Windows 10 comes with its in-house security app — Windows Security with a set of default settings, which makes sure the computer is safe.  However, it is essential that as a consumer, you are aware of these settings, and change if there is something a miss. In this post, we will go through all the available Windows Security Settings in Windows 10 version 2004, and later.

Windows Security settings in Windows 10

The App can be launched in three main ways — by searching in the Start Menu, from the Settings app, or from the System Tray icon. All the notification appears on in the Action Center, and you must not miss them at all. Once you open the software, the dashboard offers quick access to all the features. Here is the list:

App and browser control

Device Security

Device performance and health

Family options

Some of these settings, like Family Options, offer links to directly manage from Microsoft websites, while others provide granular control.

1] Virus and threat protection

Scan Options: Apart from Quick, Full, and Custom Scan, the most important is the Windows Defender Offline scan. This method is capable of removing malicious software, which is difficult to remove, especially connected to the internet or when in normal mode.

Protection Settings: It is the most important part of the software which offers Real-time protection, Cloud-delivered protection, Automatic sample submission, Tamper protection, Control folder access, Exclusions, and notification controls. Of all of these, make sure to turn on Tamper Protection so no other software can change Windows Security settings.

Ransomware Protection: Then comes Controlled Folder Access, which is a  must for all Windows users. You can use this to protect files, folders, and memory areas from programs that seek access without permission. While it may be annoying as you will get prompted more than often, but it’s for your benefit. This feature, along with Ransomware data recovery connected to OneDrive, will make sure the files can be recovered in case of a ransomware attack.

4] App and browser control

This section manages app protection and online security.  On a broader perspective, you have the following

Apps and files

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Store Apps

Isolated Browsing

Exploit Protection

While it is essential to keep the SmartScreen setting to Warn for all three, what is even more important is to setup Isolated Browsing and Exploit Protection.

Isolated browsing will make sure that Windows Defender Application Guard opens Microsoft Edge in an isolated browsing environment. It will make sure to protect the computer form malware. Exploit Protection is similar to UAC which makes sure no programs runs with admin privilege unless

5] Device Security

Its a hardware security feature, and if your devices support it, you will get to access them from here. If you see the message “Your device meets the requirements for standard hardware security,” its because the computer shared either of TPM 2.0, Secure boot enabled, DEP, or UEFI MAT available in the system.

It offers access to:

Core isolation: Offers added protection against malware and other attacks by isolating computer processes from your operating system and device.

Memory integrity prevents malicious code from accessing high-security processes.

Secure boot prevents malware from infecting your system during boot.

The security processor provides additional encryption features.

6] Device performance and health

This section gives you a bird view of how your computer is performing. A healthy report is available which shares issues related to storage, apps, and software, and Windows Time Service.

7] Family options

The last section is the Family Options, but its more about educating the consumers about the feature, and what they can get out of it. We have talked about Parental control in detail, and if you gave kids in the house-sharing your computer, we recommend using it. You can set up screen time habits, keep track of what is browsing, and also allow your kids to buy apps and games.

Windows Security on Windows offers a complete package that allows you to control the security aspects of the computer. Right from browsing to computer hardware security to parental control.

If you are setting up the computer for the first time, make sure to configure it right away.

When thinking of photo editing software, there are only a few names that really come in mind. For me, there is Photoshop, ACDSee , and, of course, GIMP.

Although all of them work pretty well, each of us has his own preference, and for those of you who like to use GIMP for image editing, you will be thrilled to know that it is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8.

The latest version of GIMP is fully compatible with Microsoft’s new operating system, and it has also received many improvements from the last version, which had some issues.

Also, as in terms of features, it is comparable with Adobe’s Photoshop, but it is much more resource-friendly, which makes for a great Windows 8, Windows 10 program.

GIMP for Windows 10, Windows 8 – A quick walkthrough

Keep in mind that unlike other photo editing apps like Fotor for Windows 10, Windows 8, or Fresh Paint, Gimp for Windows 10 Windows 8 is not an app, but a full Desktop program.

This is the same one that is compatible with Windows XP and Windows 7, so if you were looking for a dedicated app, then you will be disappointed as there is no official app at the time of this writing. H

owever, there is a GIMP Guide app available on the Microsoft Store, for those interested in learning how to use GIMP .

Moving on to the actual program, GIMP for Windows 10, Windows 8 is exactly the same as the versions for the old Windows operating systems.

Also, for those who are just starting to use GIMP, you will probably have to watch a few tutorials before you start working.

You might be interested in our article about 9 best image optimization software for PC

After installing GIMP on Windows 10, Windows 8, you will notice that it starts in multiple window format, which allows the user to move each element on the screen and place them where ever they want. While this feature is great for multiple monitor setups, I don’t think it is ideal for a single monitor.

The tools are pretty similar to Photoshop, allowing users of GIMP to create or edit photos very quickly and efficiently.

Also, a difference I noticed when using GIMP on Windows 10, Windows 8 is the overall smoothness and speed with which images open and tools work.

One of my favorite tools that GIMP for Windows 10, Windows 8 provides is the angle measurement feature, perfect for those who do precision work.

GIMP also supports hundreds of plug-ins and scripts that give you access to an even bigger list of image editing options. You can add new brushes to the tool, as well as new gradients, colors, patterns and splashes. You can check out the full list of supported plug-ins in the GIMP Plugin Registry.

Perhaps some of the most popular GIMP plug-ins are Layer Effects and Layer via Copy/Cut.

These two tools bring a useful feature from Photoshop into GIMP, allowing designers who work with layers to copy, cut, and paste areas from one layer or a group of layers.

You can also create new layers using the areas you previously selected.

Overall, GIMP for Windows 10, Windows 8 offers all the goodies that users are familiar with, but with the added bonus of Windows 8 support and the speed that it has.

Now you know that GIMP runs on Windows 10, Windows 8 without a hitch, which means that you can start editing photos just like before.

Playoff Host BU Going for Third Consecutive Softball Title

After the pandemic did not allow a single home game in 2023, the BU softball team is 15-1 at home this season.

Varsity Sports

Playoff Host BU Going for Third Consecutive Softball Title Patriot League championship begins Thursday

The Terrier softball team has had great success since Ashley Waters became head coach six years ago, but this season has topped them all. Going into the 2023 Patriot League tournament, Boston University has 33 wins in 35 games, setting a program-record .943 winning percentage.

“I can’t complain too much,” Waters says. “I’m really proud of what we’ve done thus far.”

Running away with the 2023 regular season title, BU is hosting the four-team double-elimination tournament today, Thursday, May 13, through Saturday, May 15. As the home team and two-time reigning champions, the Terriers won’t be satisfied with anything less than another trophy, Waters says.

“Our job’s not done,” she says. “We might have a target on our back or whatever, but we always feel like we have to show up and show what we’re actually made of.”

The Terriers finished the regular season with a Patriot League record of 21-1, 7 wins ahead of second-seeded Lehigh. The only Patriot League foe to beat BU this season was Army West Point, which enters the postseason as the fourth seed, with third-seeded Colgate rounding out the field.

When the Terriers take the BU Softball Field to defend their Patriot League crown, pitcher Ali DuBois (ENG’21) is expected to lead BU from the circle. The senior recently won her second consecutive Mildred Barnes Award as BU’s top female student-athlete, leading the league with a 0.69 earned run average, 137 strikeouts, 131 innings pitched, and a perfect 22-0 record.

Preparing for her third postseason, DuBois says the sense of anticipation never goes away.

With a flawless 22-0 season so far, Ali DuBois (ENG’21) has ascended the BU and Patriot League record books in several pitching categories.

“I think the nerves are just the same as my first career game,” she says. “I don’t think it ever changes that way. I still feel like I have something to prove, no matter what year it is.”

DuBois attributes the team’s strong showing this year to the entire squad. “If you look down our team, you can’t pick out one single great player,” she says. “We have a team of star players this year.”

Offensively, BU ranks atop the conference with a .322 team batting average, 215 runs scored, 291 hits, and a .409 on-base percentage. Lead-off hitter Caitlin Coker (CAS’23) tops the league with 39 runs scored and 47 hits, while core bats Nicole Amodio (Sargent’22), Aliyah Huerta-Leipner (CAS’22), and Jen Horita (Questrom’21) also rank in the Patriot League’s top-five in multiple hitting categories.

DuBois says pitching for such an offensively dangerous team makes a major difference. “It’s really awesome to have run support,” she says. “I think any of our pitchers can tell you that we all pitch differently when we’re ahead.”

DuBois isn’t the only Terrier who has dominated the pitching statistics. Emily Gant (Sargent’22) has a 1.06 earned run average and .172 opposing batting average, while Allison Boaz (ENG’23) has a .155 opposing batting average.

With the team’s depth both in the batter’s box and in the circle, Waters says, playing time in this week’s big games will come down to “whoever’s hot at that moment.

“The best nine are going to play, and they know that,” she says. “For me, it’s about who’s going to step up this week, who’s ready to go, and who can handle the pressure.”

The Patriot League softball tournament begins Thursday, May 13, at noon, when the Terriers take on Army West Point on the BU Softball Field. Colgate will play Lehigh immediately after, at 2:30 pm. The tournament will then follow a double-elimination format, with games Friday, May 14, at 11 am, 1:30 pm, and 4 pm. It concludes Saturday, May 15, starting at noon. All games will be streamed on ESPN+ and can be followed on Twitter at @BUGameDay. The winning team will earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament, which begins Friday, May 21.

5 Easy Process Documentation Benefits For Your Business In ’23

In this research, we aim to explain what process documentation is and to discuss its top 5 benefits to businesses. We also round-off the article by comparing process documentation with process mapping and revise tools that can also automate process documentation.

What is process documentation?

Process documentation is a method that helps gather all the relevant information to execute a business process in an organization to achieve the delivery of the expected result.

Process documents include comprehensive descriptions of any tasks and activities necessary to a process. Some process document examples are performance reviews, product delivery processes and customer support guides. Process documentation can help such documents be more concise, straightforward and reader-friendly.

Process documentation software

Users can generate documents by capturing all relevant points with process documentation software. Some vendors allow users to integrate process modeling tools and documentation software to generate documents within the models.

More modern approach to process documentation is process mining since it automatically discovers and models business processes with all details in much shorter time than traditional tools and methodologies.

Process models vs Process documents

Process models illustrate the process and its execution. It can overlook details such as the duration of each step in the process or responsibilities for each step. Process documentation enables including such information in the model.

For instance, process documents contain the delivery date, information and product specifications for a purchase order request process.

Facilitate training for a smoother onboarding

While training the staff, explaining operational flows is a major challenge.

Process documents can overcome this challenge by allowing employers to fully comprehend their roles and tasks that are crucial for a seamless execution. HR teams can use these documents as best practice guides during the onboarding of a new employee or training of the relevant teams over the newly introduced processes.

For example, suppose a new employee in a logistics firm learns how the company manages their delivery after an item is purchased by the customer. The employee goes through dashboards and frameworks that represent the order of activities and related tasks once the purchase is taken, such as checking the inventory, preparing the product, entering the delivery address information and conforming the payment.

Eliminate inefficiencies

Without documents, employees have a higher risk of making mistakes, duplicating activities or missing steps, resulting in lost money and customer dissatisfaction.

Process documentation allows analysts to go over the process details and identify existing or potential inefficiencies in any activity. Consequently, they improve these bottlenecks by modifying the process and eliminating unnecessary steps. Analysts can also discover activities that can be automated to increase efficiency.

Suppose a customer rep resolves a customer complaint about a customer who did not receive the ordered item. The agents go over their systems and redirect the products to the customer’s address. Yet, the problem repeats because the agent skips the final step in the complaint resolution, which upsets customers and harms the firm reputation.

Prevent re-designing and increase consistency

When there is no document, each team member executes the work in their way, re-designing the process every time. Often, employees share their experiences to establish an efficient way of working, but process knowledge relies on the individual. If a key employee leaves, it is often a challenge to write down all necessary process information and pass this to the newcomer.

With process documentation, process generation is not re-designed every time. Thus, process knowledge is stored and becomes accessible to all and does not get affected by employee changes.

Provide clarity

Process documents include every detail relevant to the process execution. Therefore, documentation clarifies the tasks and activities, which reduces operational ambiguity. Process documentation prevents confusion and low-quality work errors by removing the knowledge gaps and internal doubts.

With documents, process maps or models become easier for the rest of the team since documentation gives more details and aligns maps and models with the purpose of the process. By supporting process maps, employees can understand the priorities and deliverables and perform their tasks accordingly, improving efficiency and productivity.

Streamline communication and time management

Process documentation can save time by facilitating communication across teams and decreasing the time for meetings.

For example, a smooth mortgage approval process is only possible with good communication between back and front offices. When the approval process is not documented well, employees at the front office might need to mail or call the back office every time to solve the issues prolonging the approval period for the client. Therefore, clients can become unsatisfied with the service and might switch to another bank.
