Suggested January 2024 How To Add Star Ratings To Songs In Apple Music On Iphone

Many users have already started migrating from Spotify to Apple Music for some reason. The battle between Spotify and Apple Music is always on to get more subscribers to its music streaming platform. However, many prefer to cancel the subscription. But, if you still love Apple Music app and want to give a star rating to a particular song, it’s very simple!

Today, I am going to explain you how to rate songs with stars in the Music app on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac. This will show you the songs you liked in your Music app based on your ratings.

How to Rate Songs with Stars in Music App on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch

When you rate a song with star ratings, you can quickly sort the list of the songs you’ve rated from the library. It is great for organizing and making a playlist of your most-loved songs. Let’s get started.

Quick Access:

How to Enable Star Ratings for Apple Music on iPhone and iPad

Step #1. Play the song in your iPhone’s Music app.

Step #2. Now launch Siri and ask it ‘Rate this song five stars‘ or the number of stars you wish.

You can invoke Siri while the song is playing or you can tap on pause button and then ask Siri to rate the song.

Done! But, there is no way to see the songs you have rated. I tried to find it in Music app, iTunes Store app, and even asked Siri ‘Show me all songs I have rated’. Maybe Apple will use these ratings in the background and personalize your music recommendations accordingly.

But one thing that you can do to curate your music experience is tagging it Love (♡). Unlike the above method, where your music was paused as you summoned Siri, the technique below is better and visible.

How to ‘Love’ Song or ‘Suggest Less Like This’ in iPhone Music App

Step #1. Launch Music app on iPhone → Play a song → Go to the Now Playing screen.

Step #2. Tap on three horizontal dots icon.

Step #3. Tap on Love (♡).

You will see a display message that says, “We’ll recommend more like this in For You.” If you do not like a song, you can tap on “Suggest Less Like This.” Now Apple will recommend less music like this in For You section.

How to Rate Song with Stars in Apple Music on Apple Watch

To Love a song on Apple Watch, go to the Now Playing screen of the Watch Music app and tap on the small three dots icon in the bottom right. Now tap on ♡ Love (or Suggest Less).

How to Rate a Song in New Music App on Mac

Step #1. Launch Music app on your Mac running macOS Catalina.

Step #2. In the Songs tab, you will see a column named Rating. Hover your mouse pointer on the song name, and you will see five unchecked stars under Rating.

Another, ‘Sirious’ way is to use Siri on your Mac when music is playing (or paused but music app is open) and ask her ‘Rate this song five stars’.

How to Give Ratings to a Song in iTunes on PC

Step #1. Launch iTunes on your Windows PC and go to the Songs tab.

I would not like to end this post without talking about Apple Music app on Android. Since there is no Siri there (and yes Google Assistant can not rate Apple Music songs), you have just the two options – ♥ Love and Dislike.

Summing Up…

So this is how you can rate songs on Apple music on various devices. Now, I understand that rating on iOS and watchOS is next to useless. However, on Mac and iTunes it is instrumental in organizing the songs. I have been using this since 2014 on my MacBook.

Music app on Mac and iTunes also have Love and Dislike options that work like iPhone’s ‘Love’ and ‘Suggest Less Like This’, respectively. They build recommendations according to your music taste.

If you loved Rating songs on iOS devices (I sure did) and want it back, you may try giving feedback to Apple. They might bring it back!

How To Download Free Music On Iphone In 2023

Practically, it looks like nothing comes for free on the iPhone. And this includes good music, too. Indeed, Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes, YouTube Music, and more feature good music. But the subscription fees can be high. Plus, streaming music can consume a lot of data. The good news is you can ditch them and still download free music to your iPhone.

Besides being free, this lets you listen to music offline anytime. Keep reading as I show you the best ways to get free music on your iPhone.

Best ways to download free music on iPhone

One of the best ways to download music for free on the iPhone is through third-party apps. So, these don’t bill you like music streaming apps like Spotify and Apple Music that offer only premium services and prevent you from downloading songs.

1. Audiomack

Audiomack is a repository of thousands to millions of songs from various music genres and artists. Besides downloading music for free, you can upload as well. Audiomack works like YouTube in that you can follow your favorite artists and download their songs for free as they drop.

Further, some songs are available for download on a subscription basis only. This depends on the artist, though. So the app offers in-app purchases, after all. This is a shortcoming as you might not enjoy the free download offer if the target music isn’t available in the free tier.

Nonetheless, there are more songs on the app than meets the eye and are available for free download.

Any song you download on Audiomack goes to its offline directory. So, this is a way to keep users coming back to the app. Hence, you can listen to songs at will, even without an internet connection, once you download them. And this doesn’t cost a dime.

Although there’s a web app for Audiomack, you’ll need to install the mobile app to download music for free.

To start, install Audiomack (download link after the steps) and follow the below steps:

Open Audiomack on your iPhone.

Use the search icon at the bottom right to search for a song.

Select the song once you find it.

To see songs you’ve downloaded:

Swipe the player menu down to minimize it.

Tap My Library at the bottom right.

You’ll see some options at the top menu bar, swipe them to the right and tap Offline.

Download

2. eSound Music

One notable feature of eSound is its sleep timer. Similar to Spotify’s Sleep Timer, it lets you schedule a play timer for songs, so the app automatically stops them at a set time.

Downloading a song for free on eSound is easy. Like Audiomack, downloaded songs go to the offline playlist in this one, too.

After installing eSound from the below link, follow the steps to get any song for free:

Open the eSound app.

Once you find the song, select it to go to the music player menu.

Tap the two horizontal dots to the right of the song name.

Select Cancel at the bottom.

Tap the back arrow at the top left.

Tap Library at the bottom.

Now, go to Saved songs.

Download

3. Cloud Music player

Cloud Music Player lets you sync songs from your computer and cloud services to your iPhone without stress. It’s a cloud service itself, though, as it holds the songs you sync and lets you access them offline on your iPhone.

Although it’s not a music downloader itself. You can download songs to your computer or the cloud from websites like the Music Archive and sync them with your iPhone via the app. It does this by providing cloud and Wi-Fi upload options.

The Wi-Fi syncing gives you an IP you can visit via the browser on your computer. Here, you can upload songs downloaded to your PC, and the app syncs them automatically to the mobile app. Hence, you can play songs offline directly from the app on your iPhone.

However, you’ll need to add a cloud service that holds your music to use the cloud options. The app supports three cloud services, including Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox. Say you’ve downloaded songs to Google Drive previously, you can add Google Drive as a cloud source in the app. Then you’ll select your songs to sync them with Cloud Music Player.

However, use the link below to install Cloud Music Player on your iPhone to get started.

To sync songs from your computer with Cloud Music Player:

Launch the Cloud Music Player app on your computer.

Tap Sources at the bottom left → select Wi-Fi transfer.

On your computer, go to the local URL provided via your browser.

Once uploaded, tap Cancel at the top left in the mobile app to close the URL menu.

To use the cloud options:

Tap the cloud → + icon at the top left to select a cloud platform.

Next, select the cloud service you like.

Go to the folder where your songs are.

Once you see them, tap the download icon.

Download

Use the Safari browser to download free music on iPhone

Another option is downloading music directly using Safari or any other browser. The best browser alternative I’ve found is the Free Music Archive.

Free Music Archive

Founded in 2009 and acquired by Tribe of Noise in 2023, the Free Music Archive has accepted millions of songs from various artists. It’s a browser-based free music store where you can download music based on artists and genre.

You can search for a specific song or artist and even select the music category you want to download songs from various genres randomly. Downloading songs is straightforward. Moreover, you can access the Free Music Archive website on any device.

And, of course, the download songs go to your iPhone’s local storage. The website consists of two download sections. There’s a Royalty-free music page and a Free Music Archive (FMA).

While you may download songs freely from the Royalty-free section, be careful not to use them outside your iPhone without purchasing a license from the website. Nonetheless, the songs in the FMA section are free to use and manipulate to an extent. It even has a pick for musicians and filmmakers.

To download free songs from the FMA directory:

Note: You can also filter the songs by their music genre.

To get free songs from the Royalty-free music directory:

Note: You can also filter songs by music genre. Simply tap the + icon to the right of Genre.

Visit Free Music Archive

Wrapping up

Every melodious song soothes the soul. Undoubtedly, music can be hard to get for free on the iPhone. But if you try any of the methods in this article, you’d realize before long that listening to good music on your iPhone isn’t expensive after all.

How To Add A Recovery Contact On Your Iphone For Your Apple Id

When it releases for the masses in September this year, iOS 15 will make things done much faster than ever before with improvements in Notifications, Weather, Spotlight, Photos, FaceTime, Apple Maps, Safari, and Find My. In addition to new features, you should also see changes that have been made towards user privacy and account security as a whole.

iOS 15 will be making maintaining access to your Apple account a little easier with a new option – Account Recovery. In this post, we’ll explain what this feature is all about, what do you need to use it, and how to set it up on your Apple ID account.

What is Account Recovery on iOS?

With the upcoming updates to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, Apple plans to tackle the problem of not being able to remember your Apple ID password with a new feature – Account Recovery. The feature is set to help those of you who have the tendency of forgetting stuff including your account passwords so that you don’t get locked out of your own Apple account after entering the password incorrectly several times.

With Account Recovery, you can choose a person you trust like a friend or family to set them as your Recovery Contact. When you do that, you can contact this trusted person at a later time whenever you forget your Apple ID password or your iPhone’s passcode. This person will then receive a special code that should help you unlock your account immediately.

Required iOS version

Before you set up a recovery contact for your Apple ID account, you need to make sure that all of your Apple devices are connected to the same Apple. This makes sure that the same Recovery Contact can be used to unlock all your devices.

Once that’s behind you, you can go ahead and add a Recovery Contact for your Apple ID. For this, open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on your Apple ID card at the top.

Inside the Apple ID screen, select the Password & Security option.

On the next screen, scroll down and tap on the Account Recovery option.

On the ‘Account Recovery’ screen, select the Add Recovery Contact option under ‘Recovery Assistance’.

When you do that, you’ll be greeted with an ‘Account Recovery Contact’ screen that pops up. Here, Apple will give you an idea of what Account Recovery is and how it works.

To proceed to the next step, tap on the Add Recovery Contact option at the bottom.

You’ll now be asked to authenticate this option using your Touch ID or Face ID.

Once you do that, you’ll be taken to the next screen. Here, you’ll be asked to enter the current password to your Apple ID. Enter your Apple ID password and then tap on the Sign in button at the top right corner.

Now, you will be required to add the contact information of the person you trust to help you reset your Apple ID password in the future.

Select all the people you want to add by tapping on the circle adjacent to their names to mark them with a tick and then tap on Next.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup process and you can repeat the steps again to add another recovery contact. The person you’re adding as your Recovery Contact will have to accept the invite that they get prompted with on their Apple device.

What happens when you forget your Apple ID password?

If you somehow forget your Apple ID password in the future and you’re locked out of your account, you can use the Account Recovery feature to get it back immediately. Although Apple doesn’t precisely explain how and where it will be visible, the basic idea is that you’ll need to contact the trusted person you selected as your Recovery Contact and they will be able to provide you with a verification code to help you regain access to your Apple ID account.

This verification should pop up on the Recovery contact’s Apple device and it will be sufficient enough to get your account unlocked. Since the feature is still in development, we’re yet to find out precisely where you can locate the verification code but we can expect it to be visible inside the Settings app.

Apple says that at no time will your recovery contact be able to access your data. They will only be able to help you recover it and log back into your Apple account.

After you have received the verification code from your trusted contact, you can get your account unlocked and then reset your Apple ID password by creating a new one. It’s unknown what might trigger iOS or macOS to get you to the ‘Recovery code’ screen but we believe it could appear after a handful of unsuccessful attempts at entering your Apple ID password.

Make sure you either jot down the new password that you have set for your Apple ID somewhere else or the password itself is easy enough for you to remember the next time around.

If you followed the steps we’ve mentioned above and you haven’t been able to set up a Recovery Contact for your Apple ID, then this is why you may be running into issues:

Your iPhone isn’t running on iOS 15: The ability to add a Recovery Contact is only available for iPhones that are running on iOS 15. Since iOS 15 is only available in beta at the time of writing, we suggest you wait till this fall for Apple to roll out the stable update for you.

All your other Apple devices haven’t been updated to their latest beta software: Since this is a protective measure, Apple doesn’t only request you to connect all your devices to the Apple ID but also makes sure you’re running them on their latest firmware. You won’t be able to use Account Recovery on your Apple ID account if your Mac isn’t running on macOS Monterey (beta) or your iPad doesn’t run on iPadOS 15 (beta). If you own a bunch of Apple devices, you can use the Account Recovery option either by updating all of them to their latest (beta) firmware or by removing them from your Apple ID.

The person you want to set as Recovery Contact doesn’t have an Apple device: For the Account Recovery option to work, the person you’re adding as your Recovery Contact should own an Apple device. This is a requirement as the setup process won’t go through the selected people aren’t Apple users themselves.

That’s all there is to know about Account Recovery on iOS 15.

How To Use The Sing Karaoke Feature On Apple Music

Learn how to use the Apple Music Sing karaoke feature on your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV to sing along using time-synced lyrics and adjustable vocals.

What is Apple Music Sing? What devices are supported?

Whether you’re humming to your favorite tune or singing the hook of a new song heard on the radio, Apple Music makes it easy and fun to sing your heart out to your favorite music. The Sing karaoke feature is available to Apple customers using compatible devices updated to iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2 and tvOS 16.2 or later.

Apple devices that support Apple Music Sing:

iPhone 11 (2023) and later

iPhone SE third-generation (2023)

iPad Air fourth-generation (2023)

iPad mini sixth-generation (2023)

iPad ninth-generation (2023)

iPad Pro (2023)

Apple TV 4K third-generation (2023)

You also need an Apple Music subscription to use the Sing feature. Apple Music Sing is currently unavailable on macOS and Android.

How Apple Music Sing works

Apple Music Sing uses machine learning to separate a song’s vocals from everything else. As a result, you can adjust the vocals as easily as dragging a slider.

Real-time lyrics make karaoke even better, with background vocals animating independently from the main vocals. Plus, a duet view shows multiple vocalists on opposite sides of the screen, making multi-singer tracks easier to sing along to.

The Sing feature is unavailable on songs outside the Apple Music catalog, like the music you’ve ripped from CDs or imported from other sources into the Music app. You cannot use Apple Music Sing with surround sound—If you turn on the Sing feature while listening to a Dolby Atmos song, Dolby Atmos will temporarily turn off.

Follow along with our tutorial to learn how to karaoke with the Sing feature in the Music app on your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

How to use Apple Music Sing on iPhone and iPad

To use the Apple Music Sing karaoke feature with your favorite tune, hit the Lyrics button in the Music app’s player, then touch the microphone button.

Launch the Music app on your iPhone or iPad

Start playing a compatible song from the Apple Music catalog.

Touch the mini-player at the bottom to expand it.

In the bottom-left, hit the Lyrics button (it resembles a quotation mark).

Touch the Microphone button to start using Apple Music Sing.

You can adjust the vocal levels of the song by dragging the microphone slider up or down. If you’d like to AirPlay to HomePod, change your preferred audio output by touching the center icon at the bottom of the player, right next to the Lyrics button.

Touch the mic slider again to turn off the Sing feature for the selected song.

If you don’t see the microphone icon, this could mean two things. One, your device may not be compatible with Apple Music Sing. Or two, the currently-playing song may not have been upgraded with Apple Music Sing support yet.

How to use Apple Music Sing on Apple TV

Open the Music app on your Apple TV

Plays a compatible song from Apple Music.

If you don’t see the mic button, either the song you’ve selected isn’t compatible with the Sing feature or you don’t have an Apple TV model that supports the Sing feature. Apple Music Sing only works on the third-generation Apple TV 4K (2023). You won’t see the microphone button if you have an older model.

How to find karaoke songs on Apple Music

A song must have time-synced lyrics to work with the Sing feature. Many songs in the Apple Music catalog support animated lyrics. Ones that only have non-animated lyrics or no lyrics at all won’t work with Apple Music Sing.

Apple created special genre-based playlists to highlight popular songs that work great with the Sing feature. To find them, open the Music app, select the Browse tab and then scroll down to see the playlists under the Apple Music Sing heading.

Karaoke nights will never be the same

Whether you’re learning the lyrics of a new song or just singing the refrain, Apple Music makes karaoke fun and accessible to everyone. You can sing along to your favorite music on your iPhone, iPad or Mac without any setup.

Apple’s attention to detail with features like adjustable vocals, animated background vocals and the duet view ensures a seamless experience. All you need to do is focus on the lyrics as they’re highlighted—and sing!
