Think of the following situation: you have your own site and you want to do some tweaks to improve its appearance. But in doing this, you mistakenly and unknowingly delete some code lines.

Then, upon your next login, you realize that the interface has crashed and you only suspect that something is missing. You can only restore the site by reentering the missing lines. If only you knew what those were!

Luckily, you have a backup of your site stored in cloud (and perhaps also one some external HDD). What you need to do now is to make sure you gent the exact information back in the site.

Since simply copy/paste-ing doesn’t necessarily do the trick, you’d better use an app that could help you identify whatever is missing.

So in this article we’ll be looking at a few free tools that are can help you compare the contents of and copy whatever files are missing from one location to the other.

How do you compare two folders?

1: Windiff.exe

Download and open Windiff.exe.

Enter, in turn, the location address for each folder.

2. WinMerge

Download and open WinMerge.

Browse for the folders you want to compare.

The missing files will be highlighted in a different color.

3. FreeFileSync

Download and open FreeFileSync.

Choose the folders you want to compare by browsing in their locations or with the drag&drop option.

FreeFile Sync is an excellent tool to use if you want to compare a local folder versus Google Drive, or a local folder versus a folder your FTP server recursively using FTP or SFTP connection.

Perhaps the best ones are Two-way sync, which will identify and apply changes on both sides, or Mirror, which means that the two folders will become a mirror copy of one another.

Looking for a cloud solution to store large folders? Check out this article with some recommendations.

4. ExamDiff

Download and open ExamDiff.

Select the folders by entering the file path, drag&dropping, or browsing.

As in the previous solutions, the differences bear a different color.

ExamDiff also has a Pro version, which is paid, and which adds the possibility to compare directories and binary files, compare a local folder to the one on FTP server using built-in plug-ins, or synchronize files and folders between your PC and external media.

5. Use

Total Commander

Download and open Total Commander.

Check the boxes for options Subdirs,  and by content.

Enable the

As mentioned before, these are just some of the free tools available out there, not an exhaustive list. Also, there are more options, including tools that offer free trials and then paid plans.

Still experiencing troubles? Fix them with this tool:

Some driver-related issues can be solved faster by using a tailored driver solution. If you’re still having problems with your drivers, simply install OutByte Driver Updater and get it up and running immediately. Thus, let it update all drivers and fix other PC issues in no time!

4 Ways To Password Protect Files And Folders In Android – Webnots

Smartphones are our personal digital spaces where we store almost all our personal information. As smartphones carry such sensitive personal information, their security is also a must. With online educational classes are common nowadays, parents also need to share their phone with kids. Imagine your kid accidentally open a private photo and it’s a good idea for you to take precautionary measures to avoid annoying moments. The best option out there is to password protect your sensitive files and folders. In this article we will explain different ways to password protect files and folders in Android smartphones.

Screen Lock and Encryption in Android

Many users may think the screen lock is sufficient to protect the phone. However, this is not enough as you may need to share the phone with family or friends in necessary situations. Other option for protecting is to encrypt your data on your phone’s memory and the external memory card. Though encryption provides excellent security it has some drawbacks.

Anyone can access your files and folder if they know the screen lock code.

Secondly, it gets tough to recover the data if your phone is malfunctioning or broken.

The encrypted external memory card will not work on other phones until you format it for reusing.

So, the better strategy is to put an extra layer of security on the selected files or folders, which are more sensitive. Whenever you or someone tries to open it, it will ask for another PIN or password. It is suitable when you show something on your phone in front of others or in case you give your phone to someone. It can also protect against accidental opening of sensitive files. The good part is that Android by default provides the ability to set a password to the files. We will explain this and other options to protect your files in the following sections.

1. Protect Pictures and Videos with a Locked Folder

If you still feel the lock screen passcode is sufficient, then this is the feature for you to protect pictures and videos in Google Photos. The followings will happen once you put your pictures and videos in the locked folder:

They will disappear from the typical view of the Google Photos, providing privacy.

Pictures and videos in locked folders are not backup or shared.

Photos and videos will be deleted if you uninstall Google Photos

You will need the screen lock code to access the item in the locked folder.

If this is what you are looking for, then here is the procedure to put pictures or videos in the locked folder.

Open Google Photos and select the items you want to put in the locked folder. Tap and hold on a picture for few seconds to select it and tap on all the desired items to select multiple pictures.

Now tap on the vertical line of three dots in the upper right corner and select “Move to Locked Folder” from the menu. It will ask for confirmation and tap “Move” button, and all the selected items will disappear from the standard Google Photos grid.

Move Items into Locked folder

1.1. Access Pictures and Videos from Locked Folder

Once you put your photos and videos in the locked folder, accessing them is a little tricky because these items are hidden from the standard system view.

Open Google Photos and go to the “Library” tab. Tap on “Utilities” button at the top to open a menu.

Accessing Locked Folder

Again, tap on “Locked Folder” option available under “Organize Your Library” section. It will ask for either your fingerprint or the lock code, depending on your screen lock security. Once you do that, the folder will open up with all the items that you can view.

Locked Folder in the menu

If you want to delete an item or items, select it by pressing it for a few seconds. You can also select multiple pictures for deletion. There are two options to proceed further: “Delete” and “Move” which will appear at the bottom of the screen. “Delete” will erase the item from memory and tapping “Move” will transfer the item out of the locked folder and send it back to the standard Google Photos grid. The moved item will now appear elsewhere in Google Photos and can be backed up or shared. It will also appear in other apps on your device.

If you leave the locked folder open for a while, it will get locked automatically, and you have to unlock it again. The only drawback of the locked folder is that you cannot set a new code other than the lock screen code for the locked folder. Anyone who knows how to unlock your phone can also unlock your locked folder.

2. Protect Files with a Safe Folder in Android

As you could see, there are two drawbacks of using locked folder option. One is that you can only protect pictures and videos and other is that you cannot set an exclusive password only for the locked folder. If you are looking to protect all types of files, including pictures and videos, and you want to set your own Personal Identification Number (PIN) for the folder, then Android 12 offers a “Safe folder” feature. Remember you can’t open the safe folder if you forget the PIN. Improved security of the safe folder does not even allow to take a screenshot when it is open.

2.1 Setting Up Safe Folder

The following procedure will walk you through the setup of a safe folder in Android 12.

Open “Files” app on your Android phone. You can either find it in the detailed list of apps or search and open it. This app will show all the files on your phone, including pictures and videos.

Scroll up and find the “Safe folder” near the bottom of the page.

Accessing Safe folder

If it is your first time using the Safe folder, pressing it will ask you to set it up.

In the first step of setting up the Safe folder, you will choose a passcode for the folder. It could be either a PIN or a pattern, select your desired option and follow the instructions to complete the setup.

Congratulations! Your Safe folder is ready to use now.

2.2. Move Files into or Out of Safe Folder

Moving a file into a Safe folder is straightforward if already set up.

The “Files” app will show different tabs for the folders. You can tap the folder name in the tabs to view all the files in that folder which you can move into the Safe folder.

Select the file(s) and press the vertical three dots in the upper right corner. From the list of available option, select “Move to Safe folder” and enter your PIN. As soon as you enter the correct information and press “Next”, file(s) will move to the Safe folder.

Move Items into Safe folder

To access the files in the Safe folder, open the Safe folder located near the end of the ” Files ” page. It will ask for the PIN or pattern to view its content.

You can delete the files in the Safe folder or move the items out of the Safe folder by tapping on the three dots near the name of the files. You can also select multiple files and do the actions at once.

Note: Some manufacturers offer the Safe folder with other names like “Vault”. If you do not find the Safe folder, check your phone’s support manual to find more details.

3. Password Protecting with Archiving (ZIP) in Android 12

If you have many files or specific folders to password protect, the best option is to zip the files or folders. This works similar to setting password in zipped folders in Windows using WinZip or 7Zip apps. While you zip the files or folders in Android, you can set a password. You can also put the whole zipped file in the Safe folder after setting a password. Learn more on how to zip and unzip files in Android.

4. Third Party Apps to Password Protect Files and Folders in Android 12

Although Android 12 provides very comprehensive password protection for your files, there are a variety of apps available to do that as well. When using these apps, make sure to setup a recovery email or other options if you forget the PIN. Otherwise, your data will permanently become inaccessible. Here are some of the apps that you use in Android for password protecting files and folders.

Folder Lock

File Locker

Gallery Vault

Final Words

Depending upon your situation and need, you can select one of the default Android options to protect your files. Safe folder option is better to password protect files and folders when compared to lock folder. However, you can zip the files to hide and move them to any location. If you do not like these default options, then you may need to go for a third-party app as mentioned above.

How To Copy And Paste Messages Using Gboard Clipboard In Android

Your Android phone only comes with a basic clipboard function. While you can copy a message and paste it on another app, you can only do it one message at a time. As soon as you copy a message, the previous one gets replaced. If you are a Gboard user, you will be glad to know that it comes with a native clipboard function. Its Clipboard feature can save your messages so you can easily access your clipboard history and paste it on an app. It can also store them all on the Gboard app to be used later.

Using the Gboard Clipboard Function

If your clipboard is off, tap on the toggle button near the top to activate it.

You will find your messages history on the clipboard. Gboard saves all messages typed in the last hour and doesn’t provide an option to change the duration. Tap on a message to paste to the editing field.

You can also pin a particular message to the clipboard to prevent it from being overwritten. Press and hold down on the message for a few seconds, and tap on the pin icon when it appears onscreen.

If you don’t want the clipboard to store your messages, you can turn off the function by toggling the button at the top.

Google has been adding plenty of features to Gboard, including the ability to type morse code, translate handwriting into text and create your own GIF emoji. While its Clipboard feature is not new, it is hidden from plain view, and not many people know about it. Now you can easily make use of this feature to copy and paste messages in your app.

Do you trust Google to store your clipboard content?

How To Copy Object From Picture And Video In Iphone And Mac? – Webnots

There are plenty of image processing apps available for iOS and macOS to remove the background and isolate objects from pictures. Good thing is that now you can do this without any third-party app in iPhone and Mac. Though it is a basic feature, you can simply copy the object and paste or share anywhere. This works on default apps like Photos in iPhone and Preview, Photos and Quick Time Player in Mac.

Copy Objects from Images in iPhone

Most third-party apps help to remove background from the picture and retain the main object. However, default iOS works other way round to copy the object by separating it from the background. This works automatically with image recognition and all what you need is a picture where an object is clearly visible. The object could be yourself, your pet, children or any other item in a picture. Make sure to update your iPhone to iOS 17 or later and follow the below steps.

Launch Photos app to find and open the picture from which you want to separate an object.

Tap and press the object and you will notice the outline of the object glows instantly.

Drag the object to confirm it can be moved independently without any other objects or background from the picture.

Drag and Move Object in Image

This indicates your iPhone can identify the object and lift your finger.

You will see a toolbar appears showing menu items on top of the object.

You will have three options – Copy, Add Sticker and Share.

Object Extract Options in iPhone

Tap on “Copy” option to copy the object to clipboard.

Now, open Messages or any other app and tap on the text box field to reveal the menu.

Select “Paste” to insert the copied object from clipboard.

Paste Lifted Object in New Message

Creating Sticker from Object

If you want to create a sticker from the object on your picture, select “Add Sticker” option. This will open stickers pane from the bottom showing the extracted object. Tap on “Add Effect” option from the toolbar and iPhone will show few options to decorate your sticker. Select the effect and tap on “Done” to save your object as a sticker.

Add Sticker Effect for Extracted Object

Go to Messages app, tap on the + icon showing left side of the text box and then select “Stickers” option to view your object showing there in the stickers list.

Stickers Menu in iPhone Messages App

Tap on the sticker to insert in your conversations or drag and attach the sticker to any previous messages in the conversation.

Select and Insert Stickers in Messages App

Sharing Object from Image

In addition to copying and creating stickers, you can share the object from any picture by selecting the “Share” option. This will open the default iPhone’s sharing pane showing all available options like AirDrop, Save to Files or add to new Quick Note. You can also directly share the object on social networking apps like WhatsApp or Facebook.

Share Object from Picture

Note: As you can see, the extracted object is in transparent PNG format which is 1.2 MB in size though it is very small. If you want to reduce the file size, first save to files. Later, you can process it with any image editing apps and convert to compressed JPEG format.

Copy Object from Video

iOS 17 added an additional feature to extract objects from videos.

Open your video in Photos app.

Pause the video where you see the object is clearly visible.

Tap on the object and hold till you see it is glowing.

Lift your finger to see the same toolbar menu appears showing options for copy, add to stickers and share.

Copy Object from iPhone Video

Copy Object from Image or Video in Mac

Mac also supports removing background and lifting the object from pictures and videos.

Open your picture or video in Photos app. If it is a video, pause it in a position where you can see the object clearly. You can also open pictures in Preview and videos in Quick Time Player.

Mac will show a glowing outline on the identified object indicating you can lift that object separately.

Select “Copy Subject” to extract the object to your clipboard.

Copy Object in Mac Preview App

Open Messages or any other app and paste the copied object in the text box.

Paste Copied Object in Messages App

Note: Though there are no sticker option in Mac, all stickers created in iPhone will be synchronized in iCloud and available across all your devices.

Share Object from Image and Videos in Mac

Share Object in Freeform App

Note: Some apps like Preview and Quick Time Player will show additional options for copying or sharing the entire image frame from the video in addition to copy/share the object.

Copy or Share Image from Video in Quick Time Player

Copying Multiple Objects

As mentioned, copying object from a picture or video is a very basic feature in iPhone/Mac. Here are some problems you will face with this feature.

When there are multiple objects in the picture, iPhone and Mac will identify them as a single object together. This means when you have two persons in a picture, you can only copy both of them together and no possibility of copying either of them separately.

The feature will automatically identify only one major object in your picture/video. It will not identify smaller objects and you have no option to manually select different item.

You may need to go for third-party image processing apps if you need granular controls for removing background or lifting objects from your pictures/videos.

How To Zip And Unzip Files In Linux

File compression is a powerful mechanism to save storage space and facilitate easy file transfers, especially when the file size is huge. There are various formats of compressed files such as .zip, .rar, etc. But, zip remains the most commonly used format. If you’re on a Linux system, zipping and unzipping files (compressing and decompressing) is a task that you can accomplish from the command line interface as well as the GUI. So, in this article, we have discussed how to zip and unzip files in Linux using these two methods.

How to Zip Files in Linux (GUI Method)

The GUI method to zip and unzip files is easier compared to the CLI method but lacks various options and features which may be useful for many users. The method shown here will work for all Linux distributions with any file manager. For this tutorial, we are using the Nautilus file manager in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS version.

1. First, open any file manager of your choice and navigate to the directory where your files are located.

5. And that’s it. The compressed file will be saved to the same directory with the selected format.

How to Unzip Files in Linux (GUI Method)

There are three different ways to unzip an archive file using the GUI File manager on Linux:

1. Extract All Files in the Same Directory

First, open the file manager and locate the archive file.

2. Unzip All Files in a Different Directory

First, open the file manager and locate the archived file.

All your files will be extracted in a new sub-directory with the same name as the archived file.

3. Unzip Only Selected Files

All your files will be extracted in a new sub-directory with the same name as the archived file.

How to Zip Files Using Linux Command Line 1. Install Zip and Unzip Packages

By default, both the packages – zip ad unzip – come pre-installed on most distros. Use the commands below to install them, if it is not available by default:

sudo apt install zip

sudo apt install unzip

2. Compress Files Using Zip Command in Linux

The basic syntax to compress files using the zip command is as follows: is the final name of the zip file after compressing. Here, giving the .zip extension is optional.

file(s) is the file name which we want to compress.

Some of the common options to pair with the zip command are:

OptionsDescription-dUsed to remove a file from the zip archive.-uUsed to add new files to a zip file.-mThis option will delete the original files after zipping them.-rIt is used to zip an entire directory.-xThis option is used to exclude the files while zipping.

3. Zip a Single File in Linux

To compress a single file, use the following command:

zip chúng tôi filename

This will compress the specified file in the current directory while keeping the original file intact.

4. Zip Multiple Files in Linux

zip zip_file file1 file2 file3

This will compress all the specified files into a single zip file.

5. Add Files to an Existing Zip File

Sometimes you might miss a file while compressing multiple files. You can add a single file to an existing zip file. This can be done using the -u flag, which stands for the update. To add a new file to an existing zip file, use the following command:

zip -u zip_file new_file

6. Remove File from an Existing Zip File

While zipping multiple files, it may be possible that you may have added a sensitive file to the zip file. Thankfully, you can easily delete a file from an existing zip file by using the following command:

zip -d zip_file file_to_be_deleted

Here, the -d flag stands for delete which will delete the file file_to_be_deleted from the existing zip_file.

7. How to Zip a Directory in Linux

In some cases, you might want to zip the entire contents of a directory, but writing all the file names one-by-one in the command is not feasible. In such a case, you can use the -r flag to recursively or repeatedly add the files of a directory to the zip file.

This will add all the files in directory_name to the zip_file

8. Create a password-protected zip file

Some sensitive files need to be password protected to prevent unintended users from accessing them. One way to protect the files is to convert the files to zip and encrypt them using -e (encrypt flag). To create password protected zip file in Linux, use the following command:

zip -e zip_file file_1 file_2

You will be asked to enter and verify a password for the compressed file.

zip -r -e zip_file directory_name

Here, we are encrypting all the directory contents into a zip file.

How to Unzip Files Using the Linux Command Line

Decompressing a zip file means extracting all the information stored inside a zip file using various commands. In Linux, the most common command to decompress a zip file is the unzip command.

The basic syntax to use the command is:

1. View Contents of a Zip File

unzip -l zip_file

To view more information about the Zip File, use the -Z flag, as shown below:

unzip -Z zip_file

2. Decompress a Single Zip File

unzip zip_file

3. Unzip a Single File to a Different Directory

If you want to unzip a zip file to a different directory, use the -d flag as shown below:

unzip zip_file -d path/to/directory

4. Unzip Multiple Files in Linux

Suppose there are multiple zip files and you want to extract them all. Use the modified version of unzip command to extract all the zip files as shown below:

Understanding the command: Here, we are looking for all the files with the extension .zip which is specified by the wildcard "*” which is then passed to the unzip command one by one.

5. Decompress a Zip File Excluding Some Files

If, after viewing the contents of a zip file, you want to extract only some of the files. It can easily be done using the unzip command in Linux. To extract a zip file while excluding some files, use the -x flag to specify the filename you want to exclude as shown in the following command:

unzip zip_file –x file_name
