CiderTV, a software-based alternative for your Apple TV Remote, includes a built-in keyboard and has the ability to control linked Smart TV volume. As of recently, the app comes with a handy widget that makes it possible to control most of the functions of your Apple TV right from the Notification Center. It will save you a lot of time, here’s how to get started with CiderTV and set up the widget.
The widget is especially cool given I can now control my Apple TV from my iPhone’s Lock screen instead of fiddling with the Siri Remote, which has a tendency to disappear mysteriously when I need it most.Setting up CiderTV
To get started with CiderTV’s widget, first download the app from the App Store.
Then, pull down from the top of any Home screen to display the Notification Center. Now switch to the Today view, scroll all the way to the bottom and hit the Edit button.
Now tap the green plus sign next to CiderTV and then hit Done to save the changes. The widget is now ready to be used.
But wait, you must also pair CiderTV with your Apple TV. Fire up the app on your iOS device and it should detect any Apple TVs on your local network. To pair the app as a software remote with your Apple TV, tap the plus sign in the upper right corner.
Now type in a four-digit code that appears on your screen in Settings → Remotes and Devices → Remote App on your Apple TV and you’re good to go.Using the widget
With the widget enabled in Today view and the app paired with the Apple TV, pull down from the top of any Home or Lock screen to invoke the Notification Center.
The widget features four directional buttons, the OK button and the Menu button. You can also expand or minimize it by hitting the up arrow in the lower right corner.
In my brief test, I was able to move the tvOS selection cursor around, select items, run apps and more. You can even long-tap the Menu button to quickly jump to your Apple TV Home screen anywhere you happen to be, or start the screen saver.
If you cannot use the widget on the iPhone’s Lock screen, ensure that the Today view has been enabled when the device is locked under Settings → Touch ID & Passcode.
Note that your Apple TV and an iOS device running CiderTV must be on the same Wi-Fi network in order for you to control the set-top box with the app.Intuitive navigation
Here are some basic gestures to control your Apple TV and television volume through the CiderTV app on your iOS device:
Tap to select an item or play/pause
Double-tap to go back
Long-tap to go back to Home Screen
Swipe left/right/up/down to move between the items
Swipe left/right during media playback to rewind or fast-forward (further swipes increase rewind/fast-forward speed)

CiderTV requires an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with iOS 7.1 or later and includes a watchOS 2 component for controlling your devices from your Apple Watch.

Your iPhone’s microphone is an essential part of your device. If you are having sound-related problems, your microphone may be to blame. For example, if others can’t hear you during phone or FaceTime calls or Siri can’t understand what you are saying, this may mean that your microphone is not picking up your voice properly. Sometimes your videos may have poor audio; again, it is possible the microphone may not be able to absorb sound efficiently.
A common issue that may cause microphone issues is dirt. Dirt, dust and debris can build up in the openings of your microphone port holes. Your phone will not be able to receive your voice and the sound around well if the microphone hole is blocked by dirt and other similar objects. This can cause an obstruction. If you clean your microphone, you can fix this issue.1. Remove your case, unplug from power source and turn off
If your iPhone has a case, remove it. This makes performing the next steps easier. After the cleaning is completed, you can put it back on. Furthermore, if your phone is connected to a power source, disconnect it. And lastly, turn your iPhone off.2. Locate your iPhone’s microphones
Yes, it is totally normal if you do not know where your iPhone’s microphones are located on the device. Your iPhone has multiple built-in microphones. It may be a little tricky to locate them. iPhone 5 and later models have three different microphones built into the device. Microphones are small round openings. Here is where they are located:
The first one is located on the bottom of your phone. This one is used for calls.
The second one is located on the front side at the top of your iPhone, embedded into the earpiece, right next to the selfie camera. This one may be used for, along with others, capturing audio when recording videos. This microphone is also used to pick up voice commands.
And the third one is located on the back side of the device, built into the rear camera. Again this one is used for capturing audio when recording videos.
All microphones, bottom, front and back
You should clean all of these microphones for the best results.3. What to use and not use for cleaning
The key word here is gentle. We must be gentle because we do not want to cause damage.
Do not use any metal objects to clean them, like a paperclip.
Do not use water or any other sort of liquid.
Do not dip your device into a cleaning solution.
Do not use canned compressed air. Many may suggest this, but this is a bad idea it may push stuff inside further that you may never be able to get them out. However, you can use an air blower.
Use a dry, clean, soft bristle brush; this can be a soft (clean) toothbrush.
You may use a toothpick to very gently pluck out debris.
Do not use any sharp tools.
You may use a vacuum, again, with caution.4. How to clean the microphones
Before proceeding with the microphone cleaning, I recommend cleaning your iPhone first. Get a soft, slightly damp cloth and gently wipe all of the exterior surfaces, front, back, sides, top and bottom.
If you use the toothpick, do not insert it too far. Proceed with extreme caution.
Only make small, gentle movements when cleaning the holes using a brush.
You may pull debris and dirt using a vacuum with a crevice tool attached. Ensure that the vacuum suction is not too strong. You may use painter’s tape to seal the ends of the vacuum.
Use the air blower after using the brush to sweep away anything that comes out.
Have you ever tried to take a big family group shot with your iPhone? It usually consists of setting up your phone, putting it on a timer, and rushing back into the frame before the camera goes off. It’s not the easiest way to take a photo. If you have an Apple Watch, you can use it as a camera remote to snap a shot with your phone.
The remote and viewfinder feature of the Apple Watch (Amazon, Best Buy) is one of the most under-utilized options for iPhone photography. It’s about more than just ease of use; if you want to take a timelapse photo, the last thing you want to do is jolt your phone by tapping it or pressing a face button.

How to Use Apple Watch as a Remote Viewfinder
The Apple Watch has the remote viewfinder function built right in. It’s easy to use the feature, too.
app on your Apple Watch. The icon looks like a watch camera app.
Open the iPhone
Position your phone to take the photo. There is a slight lag between moving your phone and what displays on your watch.
You can zoom in by scrolling the digital crown on the side of your watch or adjust exposure by tapping the area on your Apple Watch.
button in the bottom center of your watch face to take the shot.
All pictures taken this way are saved to Photos on your iPhone, but you can review each image on your watch. Then, if it doesn’t turn out just how you wanted (or more likely, someone had their eyes closed in the shot), you can retake it without repositioning the phone.
If you don’t want to tap a button, you can ask Siri to take the shot by saying, “Take a picture.”
Review Your Shots
After taking the picture, you can tap the thumbnail on the bottom left of the watch face. If you’ve taken more pictures recently, swipe left or right to move between them. You can check out details by zooming in with the Digital Crown but be warned: zoomed photos have less detail on your Apple Watch than they will on your iPhone due to its lower resolution.
You can pan across a zoomed in photo by dragging your finger across it. Double-tap an image to make it fill the screen.
Finally, you can see your shot count by tapping the screen. This will also make the Close button appear.
You can also adjust a wide range of settings. Tap the three dots in the lower-right corner of the Camera Remote app to bring up the options menu. From here, you can turn off the three-second countdown of the shutter timer, swap between the front and rear cameras, enable or disable flash, turn Live Photo on or off, and enable HDR.
The remote control function isn’t limited to just photos. Swipe between modes within the camera app and then use the Apple Watch app to activate video. Vloggers have used this to great effect to check their camera image. It can also give you an easy idea of what your thumbnail will look like since that’s about the same size as the watch face.
Things to Keep in Mind
The remote viewfinder is an excellent tool and one of the best additions to WatchOS. However, it does have a limited range. It works over Bluetooth, so you will want to stay within about 33 feet at most – the effective Bluetooth range of the Apple Watch. A Wi-Fi connection makes no difference to this range.
The image quality is also affected by the type of phone you have. An iPhone 13 will take a better picture than an iPhone SE, for instance. Still, whether you use it for a selfie or a family group picture, the remote viewfinder removes a lot of aggravation from mobile photography.
The Apple Watch continues to be a fantastic wearable for iOS users. Although Samsung offers wearables like the Samsung Galaxy, it just doesn’t offer the same number of features the Apple Watch does. Between interactive notifications, the ability to track workouts, and even the ability to control the Apple TV, it’s the best option for iPhone users.
Microsoft made it possible to use Cortana on the lock screen so that you can do a variety of things like getting weather updates, reminders, calendar events, traffic data, playing songs, etc., without unlocking the PC first. For sensitive tasks like launching applications or accessing sensitive data, you are required to unlock the PC first.
As good as it is, if you are not using or simply don’t like Cortana on the lock screen, you can easily disable it as needed. Here’s how.Disable Cortana on Lock Screen from Settings App
Windows 10 has a dedicated section in the Settings app that allows you to control the permissions and behavior of Cortana. As such, you can easily disable or enable Cortana on the lock screen by toggling a single switch. The best thing about this approach is that it is user specific, i.e. the changes you make don’t affect other users on your system. They can still have Cortana enabled on their lock screen.
1. First, open the Settings app by pressing the keyboard shortcut Win + I. You can also open it by searching for it in the Start Menu. In the Settings app go to “Cortana” and then “Talk to Cortana.”
2. On the right panel, scroll down until you see the “Lock Screen” section. Toggle the switch under “Use Cortana even when my device is locked” to “Off.”
You’ve now disabled Cortana on the lock screen for your user account. If you want to enable Cortana on lock screen again, all you have to do is toggle the switch to “On.”From Registry Editor
If you have multiple users on your system and want to disable Cortana on the lock screen for all of them, then you have to use the Registry Editor. Before editing the Registry, back it up to be safe.
1. Press Win + R, type regedit and press Enter. Now, go to the following key in the Registry Editor.
That is it. By setting the value data to “0,” you’ve disabled Cortana on the lock screen for all users on your system. In the future, if you want to enable Cortana on the lock screen, just delete the “AllowCortanaAboveLock” value, or set the value data to “1.”From Group Policy Editor
Windows 10 Pro users can use the Group Policy Editor to disable Cortana on the lock screen for all users of Windows 10.
3. Select “Disabled” in the policy properties window to disable Cortana on the lock screen.
If you want to enable Cortana again, either select “Not Configured” or “Enabled.”
Comment below sharing your thoughts and experiences regarding using the above methods to disable or enable Cortana on the lock screen in Windows 10.

Apple has just announced the latest version of its desktop operating system, macOS Catalina.
macOS 10.15 Catalina brings the death of iTunes and brand new Music, Podcasts and a TV app. iOS device sync has moved to the Finder.
Podcasts features machine-learning powered search, by finding text that was spoken in the podcast.
The new TV app looks a lot like the TV app from iOS. Compatible content playback includes 4K HDR and Atmos content.
Apple is also allowing users to use their iPad as a second display for their Mac. They are branding this feature as ‘Sidecar’.
Apple is adding a new accessibility feature called ‘Voice Control’ to macOS and iOS that lets users control the entire OS by speaking commands. You can edit text, open apps and files, scroll around the interface, select items, share photos and much more. Apple uses on-device processing to offer the rich navigation and dictation features.
Apple is also launching a new app called ‘Find My’ which combines Find My iPhone with Find my Friends. It also converts all your Apple devices into Bluetooth beacons. This means it is now possible to find offline devices based on proximity from anyone in the world.
Macs with T2 chips now feature Activation Lock for additional security. The new Photos and Reminders redesign are also available on the Mac.
Screen Time is also coming to the Mac, so users can combine their activity graphs and screen limits across every Apple device.
Apple is also bringing its UIKit on the Mac framework to allow developers to bring iPad apps onto the Mac very rapidly; the Marzipan project has been formally named ‘Catalyst’. Apple says the app experience should be significantly improved than what was seen in the Voice Memos, News, Home and Stocks app introduced in Mojave.
Twitter will be using Catalyst to bring an official Twitter client back to the Mac. Apple invited Atlassian to demo a new JIRA bug reporting client for macOS, by porting their iPad experience.
macOS Catalina will be available as a free software update this fall.Apple previews macOS Catalina
Packed with All-New Features and Apps, plus Sidecar Expands Mac Workspace with iPad
“With macOS Catalina, we’re bringing fresh new apps to the Mac, starting with new standalone versions of Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and the Apple TV app,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “Users will appreciate how they can expand their workspace with Sidecar, enabling new ways of interacting with Mac apps using iPad and Apple Pencil. And with new developer technologies, users will see more great third-party apps arrive on the Mac this fall.”Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and Apple TV Apps
macOS Catalina replaces iTunes with three all-new apps that greatly simplify and improve the way Mac users discover and enjoy their favorite music, TV shows, movies and podcasts.
The all-new Apple TV app brings together different ways to find and watch movies and TV shows into one powerful app. The Apple TV app features Apple TV channels, personalized recommendations and over 100,000 iTunes movies and TV shows to browse, buy or rent — so users can enjoy 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos-supported movies.1 The Watch Now section features Up Next, where viewers can keep track of what they are currently watching and resume on any screen. This fall, Apple TV+, Apple’s original video subscription service, will be available in the Apple TV app.
For users who sync their media to their devices using a cable, they can quickly and easily do so in the new entertainment apps. And when users connect a device to their Mac, it will immediately show up in the sidebar of Finder, enabling them to backup, update or restore their device.Sidecar
With Sidecar, iPad can be used as an extended display for Mac and a high-precision drawing tablet across supported Mac apps. For users on the go, Sidecar makes it easy to bring an extended display with them so they can spread their work out over two displays wherever they happen to be. When paired with an Apple Pencil, they can use their iPad to draw, sketch or write in any Mac app that supports stylus input. Sidecar is a great tool for editing video with Final Cut Pro X, drawing with Adobe Illustrator or marking up iWork documents. And like all Continuity features, Sidecar can run on a wireless connection, so users can work with greater mobility.Accessibility
Apple believes technology is most powerful when it empowers everyone. With macOS Catalina, Apple is introducing new assistive technologies to help every user get the most out of their Mac. Voice Control is a transformative technology that enables users who can’t operate traditional input devices to control their Mac entirely with their voice using on-device Siri speech recognition technology, which also ensures personal data is kept private. New labels and grids let users interact with virtually any app using comprehensive navigation tools, with audio processing happening on-device. Voice Control is now also available on iOS and iPadOS, so users can control their device entirely with their voice, even gestures like tapping, swiping and scrolling.Security
With macOS Catalina, Gatekeeper now checks all apps for known security issues, while new data protections require all apps to get permission before accessing user documents. Approve with Apple Watch lets users approve many security prompts by simply tapping the side button on their Apple Watch. Now all Macs with the T2 Security Chip support Activation Lock to make them less attractive to thieves. And with the new Find My app, the location of a lost or stolen Mac can be securely and anonymously relayed back to its owner by other Apple devices, even when it is offline.Screen Time
Screen Time on the Mac gives users insight into how they spend time in apps and on websites, and the tools to help decide how to spend their time. Screen Time is designed for the way people use their Mac, including a new “One more minute” feature that gives users more time to save their work or log out of a game. Users can schedule time away from their Mac and determine how much time they want to spend within apps, websites or categories of apps. With iCloud, users can sync Screen Time settings and combine their usage across iPhone, iPad and Mac privately through end-to-end encryption. And Family Sharing gives parents new tools to better manage their children’s device usage, including the ability to choose who their children can communicate with and when.More Great Apps for Mac
Also available with macOS Catalina are new APIs and tools for developers that make it incredibly easy to bring iPad apps over to the Mac. With over a million iPad apps available across a broad range of categories, from creative to entertainment and productivity to development, users will be able to interact with more popular apps right on their Mac’s large and beautiful display. Beginning this fall, users can expect to see more of their favorite apps coming to the Mac, including Jira Cloud, Twitter and Asphalt 9.Additional App Enhancements
Photos features a beautiful new browsing experience that intelligently showcases the user’s best pictures.
Mail in macOS Catalina adds the ability to block email from a specified sender, mute an overly active thread and unsubscribe from commercial mailing lists.
Notes now has a brand new Gallery View, more powerful search tools and additional collaboration options.
Reminders has been redesigned with an all-new user interface that makes it easier to create, organize and track reminders.

I awoke this morning to blizzard conditions and cancelled classes, giving me the fitting opportunity to take a look at an exciting recently updated jailbreak tweak called Forecast for iPhone and iPod touch. I recommend you take a look too, as this is definitely one of the better packages available on Cydia.
Forecast replaces Slide to Unlock on the Lock screen with a widget on the bottom left that displays the current temperature and conditions, in addition to anticipated highs and lows for the day. For example, in the screenshot above, the current temperature is 34 ºF with mostly clear skies on a crisp February night. And that’s just the beginning of what this tweak has to offer…
When you swipe to the left on the Lock screen, Forecast adds a new page that displays a more detailed weather forecast without the need to unlock your device. The tweak acquires the weather forecast information, including the dynamic wallpapers, based off your current location or the first location set in the default Weather app. So, in essence, this tweak brings the Weather app to the Lock screen entirely.
Forecast, developed by dba Technologies, also displays animated Lock screen and Home screen wallpapers based on your current weather conditions, which just happens to be falling snow in my area. I found this feature very interesting, especially for the Home screen, since I’m a big fan of dynamic wallpapers and an even bigger fan of ones that serve a useful purpose.
In terms of data refresh, the animated wallpaper on both the Lock and Home screen did not change to reflect a change in my local weather. It being nighttime where I live, with snow showers, Forecast was still displaying a daytime wallpaper with a scattered snow showers condition. Despite both closing the Weather app and respringing my device, I could not resolve this problem. I’m not sure what the root cause could be.
Nevertheless, the animated wallpaper on the Home screen does not impact the performance of my iPhone, a testament to the hardware improvements that Apple has made to the smartphone over the years. The same experience would have been underwhelming at best on iOS 5 or earlier, when the original version of Forecast was released. But, if you wish, the animation is an option that can be disabled to prevent increased battery drainage.
There are a number of options to configure in the Settings app for this tweak, in fact, with toggles for showing the current weather, darkening the text and icons for the current weather, showing the forecast page, darkening the forecast, and showing the animated wallpaper on the Lock or Home screens. These are all minor enhancements that can be made to improve the overall quality of Forecast.
While the functionality of Forecast is great, one limitation of sorts that I experienced was incompatibility with other Lock screen extensions like AppBox and JellyLock. The blame for that issue cannot necessarily be placed on the developer of Forecast, but it’s still worth noting for those that use other Lock screen add-ons on your iPhone like I do. The screenshots above show the problem with tweaks overlapping, with JellyLock on the left and AppBox on the right.
For that reason, I place caution in recommending Forecast to anyone that is a frequent user of other Lock screen add-ons. But if you have an otherwise stock Lock screen, the tweak definitely lives up to its 99 cents price tag and is worth a download. Forecast is available now on Cydia in the default ModMyi repository. The package is a free upgrade for existing users of previous versions.
