By default Windows 10 and Android have pretty decent file-sharing capabilities, however, there are still a lot of lacking aspects to the system. Thankfully it is possible to improve on this system dramatically and enable full cross device file sharing and sync. If you set this system up correctly, you can basically create your own cloud storage system with very little cost. So let’s get started!

Windows 10 and Android work very well together natively and don’t necessarily require a ton of different programs and apps to enable basic tasks like file sharing and screen mirroring (among lots of others). That said! There are quite a few different ways you can improve on the cross-device and ecosystem environment shared between Android and Window.

In the past, we’ve covered sharing and controlling your Android device from Windows using SCRCPY and streaming audio from your Android device to Windows using SNDCPY which have both proven to be super popular and invaluable. So in keeping with tradition, this guide will be focusing on another really useful and quite important cooperative feature to have enabled between Windows 10 and Android. The ability to share and sync files wirelessly between all your devices. If used correctly, this has the potential to be set up as a personal cloud storage system.

To begin, you’ll need a couple of things. First, you’ll need a Windows 10 PC, an Android device and a tool called Resilio Sync. With these three things, you’ll be able to set up a system that syncs any content you choose between all devices for free. Although this sounds no better than OneDrive, Google Backup and Sync, DropBox, etc. It is entirely free and fully controlled by you.

For instance, if you have an old Android phone in a drawer that you never use with an SD card slot, you can essentially whack an SD card in it and set it up as an always-connected cloud storage device for everything else on your network.

How to set up full Android to Windows file sync using Resilio Sync.

To start this process download and install the Resilio Sync software on your Windows 10 computer. When you install it just leave the additional options as default. Though you can disable the Start Resilio Sync when Windows starts if you like.

Once you have selected a folder, configure the access options as you desire. Just make sure you make it Read & Write if you want to be able to add and remove content from it. We’ll be using the QR code option shortly, so note where it is.

At the top of this screen, you will see three options: Link, Key, QR Code. These are how you share access with other devices. If you want to grant other PCs access to your folder/s use Key or Link. For Android devices use the QR code option.

Now that you have the Windows side of things set up, grab your Android device and install Resilio Sync from the Google Play Store. Once you have installed it, open it and do the following.

After you’ve watched or skipped the tour (your choice) give your device a name then decide if you are going to allow mobile data sync. This is an important step you don’t want to burn through all your mobile data syncing data constantly. Personally, I’ve said No. After you have decided tap Done in the top right-hand corner.

Next, allow access to storage items and you’ll be taken to the next screen where you have several different options at your disposal. Create a folder then we’ll link it to Windows in the next step. You can link it to another Android device also if you wish.

Note: If you don’t allow access you won’t be able to use the service and you will get a read/write permissions access error.

That’s the final step, you’ve linked your devices to be fully synced with each other. If you have given read and write access you’ll be able to add and remove files from the folders regardless of the device you are using. Now, whenever you place content in the folders you’ve created on each device, you’ll be able to view, edit and add or delete them as you please. Just remember that if you have read/write enabled making a change on one device will make the change across all of them.

How do you fix Resilio read-write permissions error?

If you are trying to set up Resilio to work between your Android device and another device, either Windows or Android. But keep getting permission write read error, you’ll need to double-check permissions on your device.

How to Set up your own cloud storage service using an old Android phone and Resilio Sync.

Using the steps shown above you can create your own cloud storage system by doing the following.

First, get an old Android device, any will do, though the bigger the storage the better. If it has SD card support you can expand the storage size by adding any size SD card you like.

Once you have your Android device, simply set up Resilio Sync on it and connect all the devices you wish to sync with.

That’s it, all you have to do now is keep the device connected to WiFi and powered on and you’ve got your own cloud storage system.

In order to connect a physical external storage device to your iPad, you will need to make sure you have the appropriate connector. This may mean that you will need to purchase something specifically for the purpose of connecting your iPad to the external device. Depending on your needs, you may want to purchase:

A cable with the appropriate connectors on each end.

An adapter which will connect an already existing cable to your iPad.

A multi-port adapter or hub which has two or more different kinds of connecter ports to use with different kinds of connecter cables.

If you are purchasing a cable or adapter, make sure you will be getting the correct one for your needs. Check your external device and/ or the cable it came with to determine what type of connection you will need on that end. Some of the common types of connecters are: USB, USB-C and micro USB. For your iPad, you will need to know if your iPad has a lightning connecter port or a USB-C.

Spreaker: Create Your Own Internet Radio Station

In traffic jams and numerous other situations, the radio helps us pass our time. Offering us a variety of shows with creative radio jockeys, radio channels hold our attention and do not let us get bored. While listening to these radio shows, the interesting content they offer, the sound effects that keep things spicy, and the wonderful music that is being played, many of us have wanted to create our own radio shows.

Unfortunately it is not easy to get an actual independent radio show up and running. The equipment is not exactly inexpensive or easily obtained. Plus there is licensing and numerous other issues. A far more convenient alternative are internet podcasts. These are essentially the same thing as a radio show, but taking place through the internet instead of radio waves. But for the person who wants his own internet radio show, most podcast services do not meet the expectations, leaving a big gap. This gap is effectively filled by a web service called Spreaker.

Spreaker is a wonderful web service that lets you create your own radio shows. You can easily create radio programs and record episodes for it. The episodes can be pre-recorded or broadcast live. What set Spreaker apart from its competition is that it lets you add a variety of sounds to your broadcast simultaneously – just like radio jockeys can add music and sound effects within their shows. The site offers both free and premium accounts for its users.

The first step in using Spreaker is creating an account on the site. You can register for a new account through your email address or use your Facebook account to connect with the site. The latter option will help in case you want to share your shows with friends on Facebook, although this connection can be made with existing accounts as well.

After you have created an account, you can start recording your radio show’s episodes. You need to name every episode and select the category its topic belongs to.

You can also specify which show this episode belongs to, in case you are running multiple radio shows.

With these options set, your radio broadcasting interface is loaded and displayed. This interface lets you choose whether to record your broadcast or let it go live. It also includes three audio panels that you can customize to broadcast voice from your microphone and songs and effects from the Spreaker’s rich media library.

Volume for each audio source can be adjusted to suit your preferences. Selection of songs and effects for the tracks is done in the same interface, in a very simply way.

Listeners can tune into your radio station by browsing the Spreaker website and finding your station. They can categorically browse the shows they are interested in or simply search for your show by its name.

Your radio channel has a unique URL so you can use that to help friends easily reach your shows. The number of show followers, total number of plays, and sharing buttons are all displayed on your show’s webpage. Also provided is an embeddable code that lets you incorporate your radio station into your own blog or website.

Visitors to your station’s webpage can find all your options and play the music they want.

The site also provides an iOS application to help broadcasters and listeners use Spreaker on the go.

Spreaker offers a unique service. It helps the user record podcasts very similar to actual radio shows. And this feature is provided in a user-friendly and intuitive interface. For people who wish to have their own radio show, Spreaker would be an excellent web tool to try out.

How To Make Your Own Fonts With Windows Built

Windows 10 has a huge library of fonts readily available for use in a lot of programs installed on your computer. What a lot of people don’t know though is that Windows 10 also comes with a built-in tool called ‘Private Character Editor’ which allows you to create your own custom fonts from scratch and edit existing fonts. If you’d like to know where to find and how to use the feature, this guide has all the information you need.

How to Fix Graphical Glitches and Display Bugs on Microsoft Edge.

Fonts are one of the quickest and easiest ways to add some spark, creativity or a sense of importance to your projects and although there are thousands of fonts available online, you may wish to create your own. As well as a seemingly countless number of fonts available online there are also almost as many online font creation tools to choose from, some free, some paid, some good and some bad. Before you start searching for a tool online, make sure you check out the built-in Windows tool.

Note: The only downside to creating your own font is that it won’t be readily available on other machines.

How to Create Your Own Fonts With Windows Built in Font Editor.

For such an interesting feature, it’s strange that Microsoft has decided to hide the font creation tool so deep within the operating system. You can find the tool using either of the below methods.

The first is to go to: C:WindowsSystem 32 and open the chúng tôi

The second is to open the Windows Run tool and run the following command: eudcedit

Once you have the tool open, using it is relatively easy, however, it does look quite complicated. The first thing you need to do is pick a random box from the grid, this will assign your font character a code which is used for search and indexing. As this is most likely the first time the tool has been opened on your computer it doesn’t really matter which code you pick. If you are planning on making an entire front from A-Z including numbers and characters, I would suggest starting from the top left and working your way through the grid.

As soon as you have selected a code, the screen will change to a 64×64 grid layout, which is where you will be designing your font. On the left-hand side, you will see a list of tools you can use, pen, brush, straight line, hollow rectangle, filled rectangle, hollow ellipse, filled ellipse, rectangular selection, freeform selection, and eraser. (you must create your font in black which doesn’t matter because you manage font colors in programs)

How to Save Created Fonts in the Windows 10 Private Character Editor. How to Use Fonts Created in Private Character Editor.

When you have finalized and saved your Character, finding and using it requires a fair amount of input. To begin, open the Windows Run tool again and enter the following command: charmap. In this tool, use the Font drop-down menu and find All Fonts (Private Characters). This will separate custom fonts you have created from the mass of preinstalled Windows Fonts.

Now simply select your font and copy it to the clipboard using the Copy option, this will allow you to paste your character into any programs on your computer that accepts fonts. (so long as they weren’t open when you created your font, if they were, you will need to restart them to continue)

Note: Photoshop doesn’t like custom fonts created using the Windows tool. Characters generally load as a square with a x in it.

How To Create An Alcohol Policy For Your Office

Some businesses embrace the idea of allowing alcohol in the office to celebrate a big win, facilitate team bonding or offer an attractive perk for employees. Still, there are several serious and practical concerns to consider when your business is mixing work with drinking, such as insurance, legal considerations and cultural fit. That’s why it’s important to develop a thoughtful alcohol policy before you make office happy hours an official perk.

What is an office alcohol policy?

The founding principle of an office alcohol policy is to establish guidelines for responsible drinking in an office setting. If you’re thinking about instituting an office alcohol policy, here are a few points to address:

When the use of alcohol is appropriate on company property.

The importance of drinking responsibly and remaining fit for work.

Whether specific departments or roles, such as employees who operate or drive heavy machinery, are prohibited from drinking at work.

How do you create an office alcohol policy?

To create an office alcohol policy, start by acknowledging the potential risks of allowing employees to drink while on the job or in the office. Alcohol should be off-limits in any industry where there is a high probability of causing serious injury to oneself or others, such as healthcare, construction and transportation. But even in industries where employees aren’t making life-and-death decisions, consuming alcohol at work can have several repercussions, including absenteeism, increased healthcare costs, injuries or accidents on the job, and damage to equipment or products.

The impaired judgment that comes from alcohol consumption can also lower productivity, loosen inhibitions and result in inappropriate behavior.

“Employees who become impaired are more likely to say or do things that could lead to claims of a hostile work environment,” said Robert Dominguez, corporate counsel for Ember Education. “We’ve all heard horror stories about things that happen at company holiday parties. Now imagine that scenario every Friday or every day.”

If, after examining the potential risks, you decide that drinking at the office is worth exploring, follow these steps:

Consider your company culture.

If your employees commonly go out for drinks to celebrate a new deal, unwind at the end of a busy week or entertain clients, you may already have an alcohol-friendly workplace. If this is the case, it makes sense to establish a formal alcohol policy.

Reach out to your employees to see if they are interested in an office alcohol policy or if they would prefer a different employee benefit, such as additional paid time off or the ability to bring pets to the office.

Did You Know?

Allowing employees to bring their pets to the office can help increase productivity by creating a healthy work-life balance. Having pets in the office allows employees to take mental breaks throughout the day to reduce stress, thus enabling them to accomplish more when they resume working.

Regardless of the type of business insurance coverage you have, you might be able to customize your policy to increase your liability coverage should you choose to implement an office alcohol policy.

Develop a written alcohol policy.

Research federal and state laws to determine if your business is required to have a drug and alcohol policy in place. Much like a visitor policy helps to protect your employees, data and guests, an office alcohol policy may help you avoid fines and other penalties for any statute breaches, as well as potential litigation from employees.

Even if you are not required by law to institute an official policy, developing one is imperative if you are thinking of making alcohol a part of your office offerings. Your policy should explicitly indicate the amount, times and places where it is acceptable to drink, as well as the types of beverages that fall within company guidelines. Some workplaces, for example, allow beer and wine but not hard liquor. Others limit the number of drinks employees can have on a given day. They use tracking methods such as hand stamps, tickets or even an app to keep an eye on how much employees indulge.

The policy should also state the consequences for any infractions or violations. Consequences can include a host of disciplinary actions, termination or even the facilitation of an employee’s enrollment in an alcohol rehabilitation program. Be aware that employees with alcoholism are protected under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); however, ADA rights do not prohibit these employees from being terminated if the situation warrants it. Still, it does mean they cannot be treated more severely for the same conduct or infractions as their co-workers.

How do you implement an office alcohol policy?

When you’re ready to implement the policy, follow these best practices:

Educate employees about your alcohol policy.

“We incorporate informal rules into onboarding,” said Taylor Toce, president and CEO of Velo IT Group, whose employees have access to a beer-stocked refrigerator. For example, in addition to discussing your policy during new-hire orientations, you should review it with more seasoned employees during annual training. All employees should also be required to read and sign a copy of the company alcoholic beverages guidelines.

Provide transportation.

Have an arrangement with a taxi, car or ride-sharing service so that employees who choose to drink at the office always have easy access to transportation that doesn’t put themselves or others in danger.

Don’t make it all about alcohol, and always make drinking optional.

Companies can temper the availability of alcoholic drinks in the office by providing a range of snacks and a variety of nonalcoholic beverages. This helps to ensure that employees who can’t drink or choose not to for personal, health or religious reasons don’t feel excluded, which would defeat the original purpose of allowing employees to drink: increased opportunities for bonding and camaraderie.

To avoid any perception of coercion, management should communicate that there is no expectation to drink. It’s also important to be aware that an environment where alcohol is present can be triggering for people who are recovering from addiction. Senior management should be ready to step in and support employees who may find this type of work environment challenging.

Offer access to an employee assistance program.

Your entire staff can benefit from access to an employee assistance program (EAP) that helps employees deal with difficult or challenging life situations, including dependent care and mental health issues. Moreover, an EAP can provide access to counseling, assessments and treatment referrals for employees who struggle with substance abuse.

Establishing this type of resource is the responsible action for any company that makes alcohol part of its culture, but it also makes sense from a fiscal perspective. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, alcohol and drug treatment is a worthy investment that pays for itself in reduced healthcare costs that begin as soon as people enter recovery.

Remember that moderation is key.

Ultimately, the goal is to arrive at a happy medium where employees enjoy their fair share of freedom while the company protects the integrity of its work and reputation.

As workplaces become less rigid and find new ways to attract talent, more employees may kick off the weekend early with a few drinks in the office lounge or celebrate a new account with some beer or Champagne. As long as the drinking does not overshadow the work, it may become a standard employee perk at certain organizations.

“A little imbibing makes for a happier team, improves overall morale and fosters internal connections by giving employees a chance to bond,” Toce said.

What are the pros and cons of an office alcohol policy? Pros of an office alcohol policy

It can incentivize employees to perform better and may improve creative problem-solving. Instituting an office alcohol policy as an employee benefit helps make your workers feel appreciated, which is a win-win situation: When your employees feel valued, they’re more inclined to stay loyal to the company, and that loyalty can boost productivity and overall performance levels. Another pro of allowing your employees to drink in the office is that it may improve creative problem-solving. A study published in the journal Consciousness and Cognition found that slightly intoxicated people solved problems more creatively than people who hadn’t consumed any alcohol.

It can foster strong employee connections. The primary goal of instituting an office alcohol policy is to help employees connect and develop more lasting relationships with one another. By having alcohol available in the office, employees may feel more encouraged to socialize with co-workers they otherwise might not have met.

It can attract talent. When you’re trying to attract new talent to the business, listing in-office drinking as one of the employee benefits you offer may stand out as a unique perk.

Cons of an office alcohol policy

It could compromise people’s addiction recovery and possibly cause other employees to develop a drinking problem. The office can sometimes be considered a safe zone for people who are recovering from addiction. Establishing an office alcohol policy could compromise the sobriety of those employees. It could also set employees down the path to developing a drinking problem if they become dependent on drinking at work, especially if they develop a habit of turning to alcohol when facing a workplace problem or challenge.

It could make those who don’t drink feel excluded. As mentioned earlier, allowing drinking in the office may alienate employees who do not drink. This unintentional exclusion can lead to uncomfortable personal conversations about why someone isn’t drinking or, worse, peer-pressure scenarios that may devolve into bullying.

It could increase the chance of sexual harassment, and you’d be liable for any legal repercussions. When inhibitions are lowered, the risk of sexual harassment occurring increases with every drink consumed. If an employee were to press charges against a co-worker for assault or if an employee were to get into a car crash after drinking at the office, the company could be held partially or entirely responsible.

How does an office alcohol policy apply to remote employees?

If you’re developing an office alcohol policy for your business, you’ll need to consider how it will apply to employees who work remotely. It may seem like common sense to extend the same policy to your remote employees, but there are some additional considerations to keep in mind.

Whereas you can closely monitor in-house employees’ drink consumption, it’s almost impossible to do so for remote employees. Given a Centers for Disease Control report showing a spike in substance abuse since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, an office alcohol policy might exacerbate the problem. Another study, published in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs, found that nearly 9 million U.S. workers use alcohol during the workday. Discovering that your remote employees are abusing your office alcohol policy could lead to substantial liabilities for your business.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2023, one-third of employees admitted to using drugs or alcohol while working from home, according to the American Addiction Centers.

If you’re looking to create an office alcohol policy for your business, consider taking the following actions to ensure your remote workers don’t feel excluded but aren’t tempted to abuse the policy:

Send frequent reminders to your entire staff about the consequences of abusing the office alcohol policy. While you may welcome occasional drinking at work, your office alcohol policy should outline specific instances in which drinking at work is inappropriate and the consequences of abusing the policy.

Develop comprehensive drug and alcohol training. If you’re planning to allow your employees to drink at work, you should also develop comprehensive drug and alcohol training. The training assessment should cover the effects of drug and alcohol abuse on the body, the risks such behavior poses to the organization, and ways for employees and management to spot and address the warning signs of substance abuse.

Share available resources, such as your employee assistance program, with your employees, and encourage them to prioritize their mental health. In addition to creating an EAP for your staff, share other resources for substance abuse and addiction, such as the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s national hotline (1-800-662-4357) and a list of reputable treatment centers.

How To Access Pc Files On Your Android Phone

Being able to access the files on your computer when you are away, right from your mobile phone, can be very useful. Sometimes we need to access some important files on the PC, but aren’t home. At times like these, there are ways to access the computer using your Android smartphone.

Of course, the PC that needs to be accessed, has to be switched on, and you will need a data connection. If you’re at home, and are just lazy to go to the computer, then you can access files over a Wi-Fi connection.

There are many apps and software available that can do this, but we’re going to talk about the easiest way to access your PC from your Android phone. Mainly, we will be talking about two apps here, so read on.

‘How to use Android Phone as WiFi Talkie‘

How to access PC files on Android Phone

We are going to tell you how to do this using an Android phone. Or tablet, or any other Android device for that matter. Like we said, there are two ways you can do this. One requires your device to be on the same Wi-Fi network as your PC, and the other method requires Internet connection on your mobile, a mobile app, and a desktop client installed and set up on PC. In both cases, as mentioned earlier, the computer has to be running and connected to the internet.

Access PC files using same Wi-Fi connection

The first method requires both the Android device and the PC to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Here, we will be using an app that’s available on the Play Store, to access files from PC on your Android phone. You can even copy paste and delete files. The app that helps us do all of that, is called File Manager (yeah, it’s a common name, so know that this is from developer named ‘Flashlight + Clock’ — yes, that’s the name of the developer).

The app is not only pretty helpful with accessing PC file, but is also the best File Manager/Explorer app in our eyes. You would love this app.

Now, using the File Manager app, you can gain access to your PC from your Android phone. Here’s how to do this. Launch the app, then select the Remote option on its main screen. Now, tap on ‘Add a remote location‘ and select Local Network. You should see the computers that are on the same network as your phone.

Select one, and enter the username and password for that PC. That’s about it, you should now be able to access the files on your phone. Remember, this app also acts as a file manager, which is definitely a plus.

→ Download File Manager app

(If need be, make sure you computer is powered on, and sharing is enabled, and you might need to set up username and password on your PC.)

‘How to share live location on WhatsApp‘

Using Internet (from anywhere, needs PC setup)

If you would need to access PC files when away from home, in which case it’s a given that your PC and you won’t be on the same Wi-Fi network, you can still access PC files once you have set it up so.

Using the Pushbullet Android app and its Desktop client, you can easily achieve this. Of course, you need your computer left on at home/office, but now wherever you are, you can access PC files with the help of Internet connection, and Pushbullet app on your mobile, pretty easily.

Now, open the app, make sure you have signed into the app with the same ID as on the Desktop client, and check out the left pane (swipe from left edge to right). You should see a ‘Remote Files’ option. Select this option and you will be able to browse through all your files on the PC.

Tip: By default, it fires up your User folder from PC. You can use the up arrow button at top right to move to parent folder, and this reach My Computer screen to see all Drives listed, and change the drive or simply browse into any directory from there.

However, there is a catch here. If you’re using your phone’s data connection, make sure you remember that the app will download whatever file you want to view. This means that it will use your data connection to download the file. Also, the free version of the app only lets you share up to 25MB a file, while the Pro version allows for up to 1GB.

Apart from that, Pushbullet is also a great option for anyone who wants to get their phone notifications on their PC. You can even reply to messages from your PC in case your phone is out of reach.
