How To Enable And Disable Safe Mode On Iphone
Last week, I accidentally installed something unstable on my iPhone. Right then and there, my phone started having issues.
To begin with, a new message appeared on my home screen saying my device is running in safe mode. I tried restarting but that did not help. It would just enter safe mode again.
It took me a while on the internet to find out the solution to my issue. I also learnt how safe mode can be a useful tool to solve a misconfigured iPhone. Here, I have compiled a series of approaches I took that can be taken to enable and disable safe mode on iPhone.
In my case, a lock screen tweak was causing the issue. In safe mode, the lock screen tweak got disabled and I could easily remove it with no issues.
To enable safe mode on any jailbroken device, follow these steps.
Now that we have enabled safe mode on our iPhone, let us dive in quickly on how to disable safe mode next.
Most of the time the phone enters into safe mode due to a faulty tweak that was installed by Cydia. Remove each package that was recently installed until you find the one that caused the issue.
If the regular restart doesn’t work, you need to force a hard reboot. A force restart is a normal operation and does not affect your phone in any way. Here’s how you force a reboot in a few of iPhone models.
Press and release the volume up.
Press and release the volume down.
Press and hold the sleep button.
Release the button when the Apple logo appears.
Press and hold volume down and sleep button together.
Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears.
Press and hold the volume down and the Home button.
Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears.
If you’ve mistakenly entered an incorrect package source, you can use this method to remove it from your device. Sometimes, the option to remove the package source may not appear in safe mode. You would need another Windows or Mac device for this method. Note that you also need to enable SSH from the Cydia app first.
Tap on Settings.
Go to Wifi and Networking.
Tap on the current wireless connection.
Note down the IP address of your phone.
Close Cydia if running.
On your Windows PC, open Powershell. Or on Mac, open Terminal.
Type ssh [email protected] press Enter. Replace 10.0.0.16 with your IP address.
When prompted, enter password alpine.
Once you’re in, type the following in order:
Cd /private/etc/apt/sources.list
Change directory to navigate to the file containing all package sources.
Nano Cydia.list
Open chúng tôi file in the nano text editor
Use your key arrows to move the cursor to the bad source. Generally, it’s on the last line.
Delete the line using either backspace or Delete key.
Press Ctrl + X followed by Y to save your changes.
Open Cydia and refresh all sources.
If fixing the package issue did not work, try resetting your phone. Resetting your device will result in data loss. So you need to make sure all personal files are properly backed up before attempting to reset.
Also called deep reset, DFU, or Device Firmware Update is the last resort to fix your phone from safe mode issues. Make sure that you try all other methods first before attempting to do a DFU restore on your own. After DFU, you will lose all your files and have to set up a fresh one.
How To Schedule Dark Mode On Android
When Google released the first developer preview of Android 11, one of the first features that we expected to debut with the next version of Android was ‘Scheduled Dark mode’. The Mountain View giant has changed its plans for Android 11’s Scheduled Dark mode and instead, has sped up the rollout of the feature and starting today, Scheduled Dark mode is going to be a part of Android 10.
The feature is currently live on Pixel phones running on the latest Android 10 firmware. This includes the Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL. Dark theme scheduling will help you switch from light to dark background automatically on sunset and back to light mode on sunrise.
How to schedule dark mode on Android
The following guide will help you turn on Dark theme scheduling so that you can let your phone switch to a dark theme without needing to toggle it yourself.
On Google Pixel phones
Update [March 4, 2023]: After our initial testing, we found a bug inside Google’s dark theme scheduling. We found that keeping it enabled doesn’t enable dark mode on some of the apps, the ones which actually worked with the default dark mode. For instance, the Phone app was stuck with the Light theme even when scheduling was enabled and the time was past sunset. Switching off scheduling and manually enabling Dark theme, however, solved the problem.
Here’s how to set up dark mode on schedule on a Pixel phone:
Step 2: Inside the Dark theme screen, tap on ‘Schedule’ and select ‘Turns on from sunset to sunrise’.
You can also switch on Dark theme till the next sunrise by tapping on ‘Turn on until sunrise’.
Dark theme scheduling currently works on Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 2, and Pixel 2 XL running on the latest Android 10 software.
Note: The feature slightly differs from its Android 11 counterpart as it doesn’t house controls for setting custom time for dark mode scheduling.
On Samsung phones
Here’s how to enable dark mode on schedule on a Samsung Galaxy device.
Step 2: In the Dark mode screen, toggle ON the switch adjacent to ‘Turn on as scheduled’ and select ‘Sunset to sunrise’ to enable dark mode to automatically get turned ON during sunset and switch back to normal at sunrise.
Step 3 (Optional): In addition to automatically turning ON Dark mode scheduling, you can set a custom time at which you would want the dark mode to be enabled and then disabled. You can do so by selecting the ‘Custom schedule’ and configuring the ‘Start time’ and ‘End time’ as you want it to be.
On Xiaomi / Redmi / Poco phones
Step 2: In this screen, tap on the toggle adjacent to ‘Schedule’ and set the custom times at which you would want the dark mode to switch ON and switch OFF.
Since Dark mode in MIUI doesn’t feature automatic sunrise and sunset scheduling, you’ll have to set a start time and end time for the dark mode to kick in.
Why dark mode with schedule is not available on my Android
Well, it is easily possible that while your device has been gifted with the dark mode feature by its manufacturer, the schedule feature has been skipped. Your device’s OEM may decide to add this feature in its UI and may roll out the feature as part of an OTA update, but nothing is set in stone yet.
However, there is some good news. With Android 11, Google has added the schedule feature to Dark mode, so all OEMs may keep it in their UI that is based on Android 11.
How To Enable Xiaomi Enhanced Reading Mode
Enhanced reading mode is one of Xiaomi’s initiatives to make reading more pleasant by optimizing the device screen settings. In non-Xiaomi smart devices, this feature goes by names such as Eye Care, Reader View, or Automatic Reading Mode. Reading mode became popular in smartphones within the past decade as a means of improving user experience.
Xiaomi’s enhanced reading mode can be used while reading eBooks, browsing social media pages, chatting with friends, reading the news, etc. Xiaomi’s friendly, easy-to-use user interface helps you access the reading mode feature without a problem.
In the yet-to-be-released MIUI 12, there are rumors of an enhanced reading mode similar to an e-ink display.
Who Is Xiaomi? In case you haven’t heard about the company or product, Xiaomi is synonymous with Xiaomi Corporation, an electronics company headquartered in Beijing, China. Xiaomi offers products ranging from smartphones, laptops, fitness bands, and smart shoes, to name a few. Xiaomi is the fourth-largest market share in the smartphone industry, just behind smartphone giants Samsung, Apple, and Huawei.
Why is Enhanced Reading Mode Used?In the era of portable smart devices, users find it more convenient to have information on the go, making more and more people read on their phones and tablets. Enhanced reading mode is employed in smart devices for the following reasons:
To ensure that the user can read for more extended periods.
Enhanced reading mode ensures that colors are warmer to reduce eye strain.
To reduce eye fatigue.
Eye strain and headaches resulting from screen glare are common among those who work with computer or smartphone screens.
To act as an inhibitor of blue light.
Blue light is a visible spectrum of light ranging from 380nm to 550nm. Blue light exposure hampers the production of melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone. It can negatively impact a user’s sleep cycle. Prolonged exposure to blue light at close range can also lead to age-related eye problems, such as macular degeneration. Macular degeneration may lead to vision loss if not remedied.
To improve readability by focusing on the content the user wants without distractions.
How to Enable Enhanced Reading ModeXiaomi offers an enhanced reading mode for a reason: to protect your eyes and make reading comfortable for you. So let’s set it up, shall we?
Step 1Power on your Xiaomi device by pressing and holding the power button. You can skip this step your device is already on.
Step 2Navigate to the Applications menu and select Settings. The Settings menu can also be accessed by swiping down from the top of the screen.
Step 3 Step 4Within the display, navigate to the Screen group. The Screen group has four tabs, namely:
Brightness Level
Reading mode
Colour scheme and
Dark mode
Dark mode makes use of a darker color palette for compatible apps and system backgrounds. It can also help relieve eye strain when the device is being used in dark places or at night. Like Reading mode, the status is displayed by the right side of the tab.
For now, let’s continue to focus on Reading mode.
Step 5On the Reading Mode page, you can schedule a time to turn it on and off. You can choose to turn on Reading mode every day at sunset by selecting the Good night’s read option. If using Good night’s read, the display will revert at sunrise to its initial brightness.
To manually customize the time, select Custom period.
Just below these options are a brightness bar that can be adjusted to your preferred brightness setting.
Protect Your Eyes Without Enhanced Reading ModeFor general protection against eye strain and fatigue, especially while using computers or smartphones, you can:
Cover the screen with an anti-glare filter
Install trusted eye care or reading mode app
Wear anti-glare glasses (polarized lenses or lenses with color coating)
Dim the lights around the office or at home (fluorescent lights are a common source of blue light)
Adjust your TV or computer’s brightness and contrast
Remember to go for an annual eye examination
Practice the 20-20-20 rule. Look away from the computer or TV screen at least every 20 minutes at an object at least 20′ away, for 20 seconds.
Final VerdictIf your Xiaomi offers you a Reading Mode feature, make use of it by turning it on. It will protect your eyes in the long run. You can also encourage your friends and family who don’t use Reading Mode on their devices to do so as well.

What Is Android Recovery Mode And How To Use It
What is Android recovery mode?Android recovery mode is a unique startup mode available in all Android devices that provide a set of tools for diagnosing and resolving issues that cannot be addressed from within the operating system. This mode is typically used to perform system updates, factory resets, or install custom ROMs.
Commonly used for troubleshooting and maintenance, the recovery mode provides options like wiping data/factory reset, clearing cache partition, applying updates from ABD or SD cards, and more. In essence, recovery mode serves as a separate bootable partition that is essential for performing system-level tasks and making changes to the Android system’s file system.
How to boot your Android device into recovery modeWhile most Android devices follow the process of holding the Power and Volume Down buttons to enter recovery mode, there are variations among manufacturers. We will cover the procedures for Samsung, Pixel, and Motorola smartphones.
Samsung Smartphones
Turn off your Samsung device.
Press and hold the Volume Up and the Power button simultaneously until the Samsung logo appears.
Release all buttons when the device vibrates once. The Android recovery mode menu should now appear.
Pixel Smartphones

Motorola Smartphones
Power off your Motorola device.
Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for a few seconds until the bootloader appears.
Use the Volume buttons to navigate to the Recovery option and select it using the Power button.
How to use Android recovery modeRecovery mode offers several options for troubleshooting and device management. Let’s explore each function:
Reboot system now: This option allows you to exit the recovery mode without making any changes.
Apply update from ADB: This enables the installation of updates or custom ROMs via Android Debug Bridge (ADB) from your computer.
Wipe data/factory reset: This performs a factory reset, wiping all data and restoring your device to its original factory settings. It’s a handy feature when your device isn’t functioning correctly or before you give away or sell your device.
Wipe cache partition: This deletes temporary files that can be safely removed without losing any important data. It’s typically used to free up storage or troubleshoot problems caused by corrupted files.
Apply update from SD card: If you have an update file or a custom ROM on your SD card, you can use this option to install it.

Rebooting to recovery mode refers to restarting your Android device into a special mode (Recovery Mode) designed for troubleshooting and system updates. It’s a separate partition in the device’s memory that contains a lightweight Android OS version different from the main operating system. You can perform tasks like factory resets, clearing cache, or updating software.
No, entering Android recovery mode itself does not erase everything. It’s a troubleshooting interface with various options, one of which is Factory Reset. If you select the Factory Reset option, then yes, all data will be erased. But simply entering recovery mode will not erase anything.
Turn off your Samsung device. Then press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously. For older models (S10, Note 10, and older), press and hold the Power, Volume Up, and Bixby/Home buttons simultaneously. Release all buttons when the Samsung logo appears. The recovery mode menu should now appear.
If your device’s power button is not functioning, you can use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) commands to boot into recovery mode. You’ll need a computer with ADB installed and a USB cable to connect your phone to the computer to do this. Once connected, open a command prompt or terminal window and type the command: “adb reboot recovery.” Your phone should reboot into recovery mode.
Note: You must enable USB debugging on your phone for this method to work.
