Suggested March 2024 How To Enable Xiaomi Enhanced Reading Mode

Enhanced reading mode is one of Xiaomi’s initiatives to make reading more pleasant by optimizing the device screen settings. In non-Xiaomi smart devices, this feature goes by names such as Eye Care, Reader View, or Automatic Reading Mode. Reading mode became popular in smartphones within the past decade as a means of improving user experience.

Xiaomi’s enhanced reading mode can be used while reading eBooks, browsing social media pages, chatting with friends, reading the news, etc. Xiaomi’s friendly, easy-to-use user interface helps you access the reading mode feature without a problem.

In the yet-to-be-released MIUI 12, there are rumors of an enhanced reading mode similar to an e-ink display.

Who Is Xiaomi?

In case you haven’t heard about the company or product, Xiaomi is synonymous with Xiaomi Corporation, an electronics company headquartered in Beijing, China. Xiaomi offers products ranging from smartphones, laptops, fitness bands, and smart shoes, to name a few. Xiaomi is the fourth-largest market share in the smartphone industry, just behind smartphone giants Samsung, Apple, and Huawei.

Why is Enhanced Reading Mode Used?

In the era of portable smart devices, users find it more convenient to have information on the go, making more and more people read on their phones and tablets. Enhanced reading mode is employed in smart devices for the following reasons:

To ensure that the user can read for more extended periods.

Enhanced reading mode ensures that colors are warmer to reduce eye strain.

To reduce eye fatigue.

Eye strain and headaches resulting from screen glare are common among those who work with computer or smartphone screens.

To act as an inhibitor of blue light.

Blue light is a visible spectrum of light ranging from 380nm to 550nm. Blue light exposure hampers the production of melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone. It can negatively impact a user’s sleep cycle. Prolonged exposure to blue light at close range can also lead to age-related eye problems, such as macular degeneration. Macular degeneration may lead to vision loss if not remedied.

To improve readability by focusing on the content the user wants without distractions.

How to Enable Enhanced Reading Mode

Xiaomi offers an enhanced reading mode for a reason: to protect your eyes and make reading comfortable for you. So let’s set it up, shall we?

Step 1

Power on your Xiaomi device by pressing and holding the power button. You can skip this step your device is already on.

Step 2

Navigate to the Applications menu and select Settings. The Settings menu can also be accessed by swiping down from the top of the screen.

Step 3 Step 4

Within the display, navigate to the Screen group. The Screen group has four tabs, namely:

Brightness Level

Reading mode

Colour scheme and

Dark mode

Dark mode makes use of a darker color palette for compatible apps and system backgrounds. It can also help relieve eye strain when the device is being used in dark places or at night. Like Reading mode, the status is displayed by the right side of the tab.

For now, let’s continue to focus on Reading mode.

Step 5

On the Reading Mode page, you can schedule a time to turn it on and off. You can choose to turn on Reading mode every day at sunset by selecting the Good night’s read option. If using Good night’s read, the display will revert at sunrise to its initial brightness.

To manually customize the time, select Custom period.

Just below these options are a brightness bar that can be adjusted to your preferred brightness setting.

Protect Your Eyes Without Enhanced Reading Mode

For general protection against eye strain and fatigue, especially while using computers or smartphones, you can:

Cover the screen with an anti-glare filter

Install trusted eye care or reading mode app

Wear anti-glare glasses (polarized lenses or lenses with color coating)

Dim the lights around the office or at home (fluorescent lights are a common source of blue light)

Adjust your TV or computer’s brightness and contrast

Remember to go for an annual eye examination

Practice the 20-20-20 rule. Look away from the computer or TV screen at least every 20 minutes at an object at least 20′ away, for 20 seconds.

Final Verdict

If your Xiaomi offers you a Reading Mode feature, make use of it by turning it on. It will protect your eyes in the long run. You can also encourage your friends and family who don’t use Reading Mode on their devices to do so as well.

How To Enable Enhanced Anti

Biometric  authentication systems like Windows Hello, Fingerprint scanner, etc., are being promoted in Windows 10. These biometric systems help you quickly and securely log in to your system and perform various activities. Obviously, this eliminates the need for creating and remembering complex passwords. As good as it is, under some circumstances, these biometric systems can be a victim of spoofing compromising your security. To eliminate this, Windows 10 included a new feature called Enhanced Anti-Spoofing that acts as a countermeasure for any unauthorized access via spoofing. This article discusses how to enable it.

Note: when enabled, this new feature will only work with devices that support anti-spoofing technology. If your device doesn’t support anti-spoofing, then enabling it does nothing.

Enable Enhanced Anti-Spoofing Using the Registry

To enable the enhanced anti-spoofing feature, add a new registry value. To do that, press “Win + R,” type regedit and press the Enter button.

The above action will open the Windows Registry Editor. Here, navigate to the following key:

Name the newly created key “FacialFeatures” and press the Enter button to save the name.

This action will create a new DWORD value. Rename the newly-created value “EnhancedAntiSpoofing.” This is how it looks once you rename it.

If you ever want to disable the enhanced anti-spoofing, simply change the value data back to “0.”

Enable Enhanced Anti-Spoofing Using Group Policy

If you are using the Pro or Enterprise version of Windows, you can do the same thing using the Group Policy Editor. There is no need to mess with Windows Registry. To start, press “Win + R,” type gpedit.msc and press the Enter button.

If you ever want to revert back, simply select the “Disabled” radio button or “Not Configured.”

How To Enable And Disable Safe Mode On Iphone

Last week, I accidentally installed something unstable on my iPhone. Right then and there, my phone started having issues.

To begin with, a new message appeared on my home screen saying my device is running in safe mode. I tried restarting but that did not help. It would just enter safe mode again.

It took me a while on the internet to find out the solution to my issue. I also learnt how safe mode can be a useful tool to solve a misconfigured iPhone. Here, I have compiled a series of approaches I took that can be taken to enable and disable safe mode on iPhone.

In my case, a lock screen tweak was causing the issue. In safe mode, the lock screen tweak got disabled and I could easily remove it with no issues.

To enable safe mode on any jailbroken device, follow these steps.

Now that we have enabled safe mode on our iPhone, let us dive in quickly on how to disable safe mode next.

Most of the time the phone enters into safe mode due to a faulty tweak that was installed by Cydia. Remove each package that was recently installed until you find the one that caused the issue.

If the regular restart doesn’t work, you need to force a hard reboot. A force restart is a normal operation and does not affect your phone in any way. Here’s how you force a reboot in a few of iPhone models.

Press and release the volume up.

Press and release the volume down.

Press and hold the sleep button.

Release the button when the Apple logo appears.

Press and hold volume down and sleep button together.

Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears.

Press and hold the volume down and the Home button.

Release the buttons when the Apple logo appears.

If you’ve mistakenly entered an incorrect package source, you can use this method to remove it from your device. Sometimes, the option to remove the package source may not appear in safe mode. You would need another Windows or Mac device for this method. Note that you also need to enable SSH from the Cydia app first.

Tap on Settings.

Go to Wifi and Networking.

Tap on the current wireless connection.

Note down the IP address of your phone.

Close Cydia if running.

On your Windows PC, open Powershell. Or on Mac, open Terminal.

Type ssh [email protected] press Enter. Replace with your IP address.

When prompted, enter password alpine.

Once you’re in, type the following in order:

Cd /private/etc/apt/sources.list

Change directory to navigate to the file containing all package sources.

Nano Cydia.list

Open chúng tôi file in the nano text editor

Use your key arrows to move the cursor to the bad source. Generally, it’s on the last line.

Delete the line using either backspace or Delete key.

Press Ctrl + X followed by Y to save your changes.

Open Cydia and refresh all sources.

If fixing the package issue did not work, try resetting your phone. Resetting your device will result in data loss. So you need to make sure all personal files are properly backed up before attempting to reset.

Also called deep reset, DFU, or Device Firmware Update is the last resort to fix your phone from safe mode issues. Make sure that you try all other methods first before attempting to do a DFU restore on your own. After DFU, you will lose all your files and have to set up a fresh one.

Here’s how to root the Redmi Note 5 Pro manually.

In case you didn’t know, you will need to unlock the bootloader first and then install TWRP recovery. Then you could root your Redmi Note 5 Pro. Credit for this version of TWRP recovery for Redmi Note 5 Pro goes to Shahan_mik3 and vasishath over at the XDA Forums.

Things you will need:

Make sure that your mobile device has at least 50% battery charge

Minimal ADB and Fastboot tools installed (download Link)

Create a backup of all the personal data on your device

Step 1: Enable USB Debugging and OEM unlock

Just so that nobody accidentally — how could you, anyway! — does it, OEMs make sure that the hacking stuff is disabled in the settings. Hidden settings, that is, because, well you know why. So, Xiaomi allows you to unlock the device, but first, you have to know how to enable this in settings, and here’s how.

From the home screen, head over to the Settings.

Find the About Phone option (at the top) and open it.

Find the MIUI version and tap on it 7 times (until you get ‘You’re now a developer’).

Go back to the main screen of Settings app, and tap into Additional settings. The Developer options will now be available here.

Now, find the OEM Unlock option, and use its toggle button to enable it.

Step 2: Unlock the bootloader of your Redmi Note 5 Pro

Well, Xiaomi officially allows you to unlock the bootloader of your device.

For that, head to Xiaomi’s Unlock page, and follow the instructions there. Once done, continue with the steps below.

Step 3. Enter Fastboot mode

Shot down your Note 5 Pro and wait until the screen turns off completely.

Press and hold the Power + Volume Down buttons until you feel the device vibrate and see the screen with FASTBOOT written over it. Once you do, let go of the buttons.

Your device will now be in fastboot mode, so connect it to the computer using a USB cable.

Step 4: Flash the TWRP file

Create a new folder on your PC, and let’s call it TWRP folder. Place the TWRP file in this folder. It could be any folder anywhere on your computer.

fastboot devices

Now go ahead and type in the command below and hit Enter to install the TWRP recovery on your Redmi Note 5 Pro.

→ If your TWRP file’s name is twrp-3.2.2-0-whyred.img then the command would be fastboot flash twrp twrp-3.2.2-0-whyred.img

Finish the process by finally typing ‘fastboot reboot‘ to reboot your Redmi Note 5 Pro normally.

When you wish to head over to the TWRP custom recovery menu:

Shut down the device and wait for the screen to turn off completely.

Press and hold the Power + Volume Up button until the device vibrates, at which point you can let go of the buttons.

That’s it! You will now be able to use the TWRP custom recovery on your Redmi Note 5 Pro to root your device, flash .zip files and a whole lot more.

Step 5: Redmi Note 5 Pro Root

It’s very easy now.

Download the SuperSU .zip file. (Mirror)

Follow the SuperSU installation guide here to install the SuperSU file you download above.
