Suggested April 2024 How To Install And Use Whatsapp App On Mac

If you’re someone who stays online on your Mac more than your phone, you may have used WhatsApp’s web app for sending and receiving messages without picking up your phone. While this functionality has existed for a few years, one downside to that has been that your phone was always required to stay online for you to use WhatsApp on a computer.

Besides this, some features weren’t available on the Mac app or WhatsApp’s web client which made it all the way less convenient. WhatsApp has now changed this experience with its new native Mac app which lets you use the messaging app without any of these restrictions.

In this post, we’ll explain to you what’s new about the new WhatsApp app, how you can download it and start using it on a Mac.

What’s new with WhatsApp on Mac

Although WhatsApp has been available as an app on macOS, this app was more or less a web-wrapped version that would look and feel similar to WhatsApp on the web. Thanks to recent developments, the company has now developed a native version of the messaging app, one that offers all the features that you’d otherwise get on its iOS app without any restrictions.

The main difference between this app and the old version is that you no longer require your phone to be connected to the internet to use WhatsApp on your Mac. The older app relied on your phone’s internet connection to relay the same messages to your Mac. In the new version, you will be able to use it as a standalone app, meaning you can send and receive messages directly from the Mac without needing your iPhone to connect to a network.

Instead of a two-panel window, the new WhatsApp app for Mac will offer an additional third panel which will be available on the left-most side of the window. This panel should resemble the bottom navigation bar on the iOS version of WhatsApp, offering quick access to chats, calls, archived & starred messages, and app settings.

How to install the WhatsApp app on a Mac

The new native app for WhatsApp on Mac is available directly on WhatsApp’s website but the version that’s currently installable is still in beta. This means, you may not be able to use all the features on the app or you may end up facing an issue or two during your usage.

Before you install the native WhatsApp app on your Mac, you need to make sure that your Mac is running on the latest version of macOS available on it. This is important because the new WhatsApp app can only be installed on macOS Big Sur or newer versions.

You should now see the WhatsApp Installer window on the screen. To install the downloaded app, drag the WhatsApp app icon to the Applications folder inside the WhatsApp Installer window.

How to sign in to your WhatsApp account on Mac

When you’ve installed WhatsApp on your Mac, you can start using it but before you do that, you first need to log in to your WhatsApp account on the app. To do that, first open the WhatsApp app on your Mac from the Dock, Launchpad, or Spotlight.

Now, you should see a QR code on the screen. This QR code is what allows your WhatsApp account on your phone to get added to the app on your Mac.

The next step is to open the WhatsApp app on your Android device or iPhone.

When the app opens on your phone, tap on the 3-dots icon at the top right corner on Android or tap on the Settings tab at the bottom right corner of your iPhone.

On Android, when an overflow menu opens on the screen, tap on Linked devices.

On iOS, select Linked Devices from the Settings screen.

Inside the Linked Devices screen, tap on Link a Device.

In the Scan QR code screen that appears, tap on OK.

You should see your camera viewfinder in a square box. Now, point your phone’s main camera to the code on your Mac so that the WhatsApp app on your phone can capture the code and read it.

On your Mac, you should see the Customize Notifications window on top of the WhatsApp widow. From here, you can disable notification banners and message previews by unchecking their boxes on the right-hand side or leaving them enabled if you’re okay with it. Once you’ve configured how you want to receive notifications from WhatsApp on your Mac, tap on Done at the top right corner of the Customize Notifications window.

WhatsApp is now successfully installed on your Mac and you can start using it to send messages.

How to use WhatsApp on Mac

Once you’ve installed and logged into your account on WhatsApp, the app should be open on your Mac’s Dock at all times and you can open it from there.

If you can’t find the WhatsApp app on Dock at the bottom, you can launch it by searching on Spotlight or from the Launchpad screen.

When you open the new WhatsApp on your Mac, you will see a three-panel window on the screen.

On the left-most panel, you will see different tabs to access your Chats, Calls, Archived (messages), Starred (messages), and Settings. The subsequent panels on the middle and right side will then show you chats by default or the content from the selected tab from the left panel.

Open chats and send messages

In the New Chat window, scroll through your list of contacts or groups and select the chat or person you want to send a message to.

When you open a conversation, all the past messages in the conversation should be visible on the right-most panel. When a chat is open on the right panel, you will see all the messages inside it. To view older messages in a selected chat, scroll upwards on this panel.

When the contact’s info screen shows up, you can access the media shared in the conversation, check for starred messages, or search the conversation for keywords.

You can scroll down on this screen for other actions sharing contact, clearing or exporting the chat, or blocking the contact from messaging you.

Make calls and view your WhatsApp call log

When you do that, the call should commence and you should see the call screen on top of the WhatsApp window.

Access your archived messages on WhatsApp

View messages you starred on WhatsApp

When you do that, you should see where the message appeared inside the conversation on the right panel.

How to change WhatsApp Settings on Mac

Modify your WhatsApp profile

Inside WhatsApp’s Settings screen, you can change how your profile looks to others on the app in the same way you would on a phone. You can change your profile picture, name, and the “About” section and update them to something new.

When you do that, you should see your profile details appear on the right. Inside the Edit Profile panel is where you can make changes to your profile.

Make changes to your privacy

Regardless of the section you select, you can choose one of the following options to configure your account’s privacy.

In the Default Message Timer panel that appears, select a duration after which you want messages to get deleted from individual chats.

This will not affect your existing messages and they will continue to stay on your chat history for as long as you want to keep them.

Change how you receive WhatsApp notifications on Mac

This will open the Notifications panel on the right where you can change how you receive messages and group notifications on your Mac. To enable notifications for all messages in a chat, check the Show Notifications boxes under “Message Notifications” and “Group Notifications”.

To get notified everyone someone reacts to your messages, check the Reaction Notifications boxes on both sections.

WhatsApp notifications will appear as a banner by default on a Mac. If you want the notification banner to preview the message you received, you can check the Show Preview box.

View your network and device storage

The selected items will be deleted from the specific conversation. You can repeat these steps to delete media from other conversations as well.

On the next panel, you should see the full details of the amount of data consumed and how it was used.

On the next screen, select your preferred quality from the following options.

Export, Clear, or Delete all your chats

On the next screen, select a chat you want to export from the list of conversations visible.

You will see a prompt on the screen asking whether or not you want to save media in addition to your messages. Select your preferred option from this prompt to proceed.

If you wish to use WhatsApp from scratch, you can choose any of these options inside the Chats panel – Archive All Chats, Clear All Chats, or Delete All Chats.

How to log out of your WhatsApp account on Mac

When you no longer want to use the WhatsApp account on your Mac, you can log out from it to unlink your account on the Mac. There are two ways to log out of WhatsApp on a Mac – from the Mac or the connected phone.

Log out from the Mac

Log out from your phone

You can also log out of your WhatsApp account on the Mac by unlinking it from your WhatsApp account on your phone. For this, open the WhatsApp app on iOS or Android.

Inside WhatsApp, tap on the 3-dots icon at the top right corner on Android or tap on the Settings tab at the bottom right corner of your iPhone.

On Android, when an overflow menu opens on the screen, tap on Linked devices. On iOS, select Linked Devices from the Settings screen.

Inside the Linked Devices screen, tap on macOS.

In the Device Status screen that appears, tap on Log Out.

You will now be logged out of your WhatsApp account on the Mac.

Can you use the WhatsApp Mac app without your phone?

Yes. The new native app for WhatsApp on Mac is designed to run by itself without connecting your phone to any network.

Before this, the older WhatsApp app, just like the web version, relied on your phone’s internet connectivity to show you the same messages on the Mac. If your phone got disconnected, the app would then cease to show newer messages or stop you from sending new messages from the Mac.

With the new WhatsApp app, you can now send and receive messages from within your Mac without needing your phone to stay online. You can even make audio and video calls to someone or receive them directly on the Mac without your phone.

For how long can you use the WhatsApp Mac app without a phone?

You can use the native WhatsApp app on your Mac without your phone as soon as you link your account to the Mac client. WhatsApp allows you to use the Mac client as a standalone app for up to 14 days. This means, your linked devices (including your Mac) will be logged out if your phone hasn’t been online for over 14 days. If you occasionally connect your phone to the internet, you can continue using the WhatsApp on Mac app without your phone for an indefinite period, provided that your phone stays online at least once in two weeks.

That’s all you need to know about downloading and installing WhatsApp on a Mac.

How To Install Git On Mac?

Introduction

With Git, developers can collaborate on projects and track their progress without interfering with each other.

This facilitates collaboration within a project and helps prevent confusion or code clashes among team members. An evolving project is tracked and saved as snapshots, effectively keeping a history of its development.

It is possible for users to communicate through the system once they install the software on their machines. Developers could collaborate over a centralized source (e.g., GitHub) where they can push and pull changes.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to install Git on a Mac.

What is Git?

It is a version control technology that acts as a tracker for tracking changes. Git can be used to track changes made to source code files. It operates as a complete file-based system without the need for additional software. By using this technology, files can be reverted to their earlier versions. If you’re looking for a system that can easily recover files that have been deleted, then it’s a smart choice.

Another way of describing it is as a file change tracking system that can track even coded lines. You can use it to remove the files that have been added. A folder is created at the beginning of the process when utilizing this system. This folder contains all the details about the file. Using this folder, you can easily store data, which makes it easier to track any file. The Git folder is also referred to as a ‘repository’ in this system.

Advantages of Git Processing is Fast

In comparison with other software or apps, it runs more quickly. With high speed, both server and local operations can be performed easily.

Flexible

This system has flexible workflow operations. From the options available, one can select the workflow that suits one’s needs.

Merging is Easy

It is possible to merge another code into the system. Developers can interact and contribute to each other’s work through this platform. During the merging process, there is no need to follow a lengthy procedure.

Keeping it Simple and Fast

Connecting to the central server is not necessary. Having the local copy on the developer’s machine allows all the operations to be performed very quickly.

Branching is Easy

It is easy and cheap to merge Git branches. A new branch is created every time you make a small change to your code.

How to install Git on Mac?

Git can also be installed via the terminal using a few simple commands.

Option 1: Install Git using the Mac Installer

Step 1. Open a browser and navigate to Git’s official website.

Step 2. When you enter the page, you will see the version number and a download button.

Step 5. Set up Git according to the setup guide. Version control systems should be left in their default settings if you are new to them.

Step 6. When prompted, enter your password when installing the program.

Option 2: Install Git with Homebrew

Homebrew simplifies the installation of software on Apple’s operating system (macOS) using a free, open-source software package management system. It can be used to install any type of package you will need in the future, not just Git. It is extremely useful because of this.

Installing Homebrew does not require any applications or anything else. To install Homebrew, simply open the terminal and run these commands

Note − Your password will be requested once you enter the command.

As soon as that is complete, you can install Git in your terminal by using the command below

$ brew install git

Upon successful installation, your Mac will have Git installed. You can verify by running the following command

$ Git --version

How To Use Emoji On Mac Without Installing Additional App

Do you like to use emoticons, images, or symbols to express yourself when chatting or messaging a friend? As a Mac or iOS user, you’re probably familiar with or have at least heard the term “emoji.” For those of you that don’t know, emoji is a popular set of emoticons and images that you can be used in IMs, emails, tweets, text notes and more.

Before Mac OS X 10.7, you could only use emoji characters by installing an app. Luckily, with Mac OS X 10.7 and higher, emoji can be used without an app. If you haven’t found out where emoji is hidden, it’s because Apple has done a pretty good job of hiding it.

So, here’s how to use emoji on a Mac:

1. Go to your app of choice – wherever you want to use emoji characters. Note: There are many apps and Web services that do not support emoji.

3. The Special Characters window will open up. From here select “Emoji” on the left side – the second to last item.

5. If the character does not show up, that means the app or website you’re using does not support emoji.

So there you have it – no apps needed for emoji on your Mac.

How To Install Microsoft Access On Mac

One of the more underappreciated and unheard-of tools in the Microsoft Office suite is Microsoft Access. For those unaware, Access is a database management system that uses Microsoft’s Jet Database Engine. Databases created using this application are stored in their unique format, thus making them not readily accessible to everyone. While it is very easy to set this tool up on a Windows computer, the case is not the same on Macs.

Officially speaking, Microsoft Access is not available on the macOS. However, you can use a virtual machine on your Mac and run the tool’s Windows version there. Today, we will be discussing how you can install MS Access on Mac using a tool named VirtualBox.

How to install Microsoft Access on Mac

For some, it can be a little confusing to understand what virtual machines like VirtualBox do. Essentially, these tools help you run different operating systems on top of existing operating systems, blend platforms that don’t coexist readily. Here, we will use VirtualBox to run Windows inside Mac and then run Access on that virtualized version of Windows.

Readers should note that all utilities of MS Office, except for Access, have official Mac versions of them. You don’t have to follow this process to run PowerPoint, or Excel on Mac, for example. Let’s begin!

First things first, you’re going to have to download a .iso file of Windows from chúng tôi An ISO file helps you create a bootable installation media or a virtual machine, as we will be doing here. Fill out the details i.e., the version of the OS, the language you prefer, bit version, etc., and confirm your download.

Here, type out a name to your virtual machine, select the version of your OS, and allocate the appropriate RAM space for it. Fill out the credentials of the hard disk drive you will be using for this process.

After that, you have to set up Windows on VirtualBox as you would do on a normal PC. Fill out all the details you’re instructed to and select the OS edition you want to install.

Your computer will boot once and that can take some time, depending on the specifications of your Mac, but after that, you’ll have to enter your Microsoft account’s credentials. Do so, wait a while and you’ll finally see an interface the same as in any Windows computer.

The process is pretty straightforward thereon out. Simply download Microsoft Office on your Windows now and open Access there.

If you feel that Windows is lagging on your VirtualBox setup, you can visit the Windows settings and check if there are any pending updates.

We hope that this post clarified all your doubts about VirtualBox on Mac and how you can use it with ease.

Does Office 365 have Access for Mac?

No. Unfortunately, Microsoft Access is available only for Windows PCs. But you can use a virtual machine to run it.

How To Completely Uninstall An App On Mac

Depending on the application and the installation method, you may be able to completely uninstall an application from macOS by simply dragging the .app bundle into the trash. However, that typically leaves behind at least a few preference files. In some cases it can leave behind gigabytes of data.

On macOS, applications generally like to stay inside their .app bundle. Compare this to Windows, where an installer can spew files across the system in dozens of arbitrary locations. Although, this happens with some Mac apps as well, as you’ll see if you try to manually uninstall more complex applications.

If possible, you should always default to using the applications uninstaller, if it has one. Applications with web service components, like Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office 365, should be removed according to the instructions on the developer’s website. If there is no uninstaller application or uninstall procedure, you can remove the application yourself. It just might take a little while, unless you don’t mind paying a few dollars to have it taken care of for you.

Method One: App Cleaner

The easiest way to completely uninstall a game on the Mac is with App Cleaner. It works by searching for files associated with the app bundle and deleting everything together at the same time. You can download and install App Cleaner for free, but it costs $10 to unlock the core file-deletion functionality. With the free version of App Cleaner, you can search for apps but not uninstall them.

If you’re looking for a free option, there is a free, similarly-named program, AppCleaner, that performs similarly but not identically to the paid App Cleaner.

1. Open App Cleaner.

2. Type the name of the app you want to delete in the search bar at the bottom of the app list.

3. Check the box next to the application to mark it and its associated files for deletion.

4. If you want to completely uninstall more than one app, you can search for another app and check it too. Both will be uninstalled in the last step.

6. Empty the Trash in Finder to remove the files from the disk completely, and you’re done.

Option 2: Manual Uninstall

App Cleaner is useful because not all applications are entirely contained within their app bundles. While some apps can be deleted simply by deleting the .app bundle, not all apps are so well-organized or simplistic.

Many apps, especially powerful apps, can sprawl across your system, depositing files in a variety of “~/Library/” folders. In this way developers have managed to import our least favorite Windows feature: installer vomit.

Possible Library Folder Locations

To completely uninstall an app from macOS manually, you’ll need to look for files associated with the application in the following folders. Within each folder, look for the name of the application and the name of the company that created it. For example, if you were trying to uninstall Word manually, you would look for both Word and Microsoft.

/Library

/Library/Application Support

/Library/Preferences

/Library/LaunchAgents

/Library/LaunchDaemons

/Library/PreferencePanes

/Library/StartupItems

~/Library/

~/Library/Application Support

~/Library/LaunchAgents

~/Library/Preferences

~/Library/PreferencePanes

~/Library/StartupItems

Additional Locations

You’ll also need to look for any related kernel extensions. Known as “kexts,” kernel extensions are the drivers of the macOS world. A kext extends the communication ability of the kernel, adding new methods of interfacing with the system. You’ll find them installed in “/System/Library/Extensions,” and you’ll need to search thoroughly for anything related to your application. When you’re ready to remove the kexts, you’ll need to use sudo rm.

You may also find files in the “~/Documents/” folder. This is especially true of applications and games that are ported from Windows to macOS. Storing user files in the Documents folder is a standard, and perhaps annoying, behavior on Windows, and that’s easily transferred to macOS.

Other more complex applications can deposit files in less typical locations. If you install a different shell, for example, you’ll find hidden files and folders associated with that shell in your home directory. With Finder foremost, press Command + Shift + . to reveal hidden folders. Delete any associated files or folders from your home directory.

Conclusion

In most cases simply deleting the app bundle is enough to uninstall an app from your Mac. Complete removal is best when the app has large helper files, or you’re attempting to fix some sort of problem by reinstalling the application.

How To Use Signal On Desktop Computers (Windows And Mac)

Encrypted messaging app, Signal, has grown in popularity recently following several celebrity endorsements and an ill-conceived privacy policy update from WhatsApp. In fact, the Signal iOS app recently topped the App Store download charts in various countries, including Austria, France, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, India and Switzerland. However, do you know that it can also be used on desktop computers like WhatsApp and Telegram? Today, we will show you how to use Signal Messenger on your Windows 10 and Mac computer (desktops and laptops).

Use Signal Messenger on Your Desktop Computer (Windows and Mac)

Unlike WhatsApp, Signal doesn’t have a web app, but offers desktop apps on Windows, Mac and Linux. Now open Signal Messenger on your phone and tap on the menu button (three dots) at the top-right corner. Then select ‘Settings’ from the popup menu.

Scan the QR code on your computer screen and the two apps will sync in a moment or two. Once they’re in-sync, tap on ‘Link Device’ as seen in the second screenshot below.

On the desktop app, choose a name for your linked devices and hit ‘Finish Linking Phone’.

Your desktop app will automatically sync your contacts with your phone and you will be able to send and receive messages on Signal Desktop. It might take a few minutes for all your chats, messages and contacts to sync between the two devices.

Un-Link Signal Desktop With Your Phone

Signal Desktop is now un-linked with your Signal mobile app. You’ll have to once again link the two the next time you fire up the app on your computer.

Use the Best Encrypted Messaging App on Your Computer

One of best alternatives to WhatsApp and Telegram, Signal Messenger has been endorsed by several tech luminaries, including Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, American whistleblower Edward Snowden, and the world’s richest person, Elon Musk. While you now know how to use Signal on your desktop and laptop computers (Windows and Mac) you’ll probably still use it on your phone more often than not. So check out the best Signal tips and tricks to get the most out of the mobile app. If you’re still using WhatsApp, check out how you can switch to Signal from the Facebook-owned service.
