As a Windows user, you may often need to run multiple instances of a program. These should be able to operate separately, and if needed, under different accounts. There are a few ways you can run another instance of the same application. The following guide illustrates a few of these methods with an attempt to explain which would be preferable for a specific kind of program.

1. Just Relaunch the Program

The most native method to run another program instance is to simply relaunch it while it’s open. This works best for browsers, Microsoft Office applications, and Windows utilities such as Paint, Calculator, WordPad, Command Prompt, and even third-party software.

Alternatively, you can use or Ctrl + N to restart programs such as a Microsoft Word document.

2. Launch Using Run Box in Windows 10

Another way to launch a Windows program is to use the Run Box window, which can be accessed from Win + R. First, trace the program’s .exe file location and copy the entire path.

Then, type the following into the Run box to open a new instance.

One of the fastest ways to restart a program instance is to identify its numerical sequence from its corresponding position in the taskbar. You need to determine the required number from “left” to “right,” as demonstrated here for a Paint file.

4. Use the Program’s Web Browser Version

Using the above methods, it is difficult to relaunch the programs from the Microsoft Store. These include applications such as Skype, WhatsApp for Desktop, Zoom, and many others. If available, you can run multiple instances using the program’s web browser version. Enable Standard Users To Run A Program With Admin Rights In Windows

If you have multiple users using your system, then you are most probably assigning them the standard user accounts. This allows you to regulate what they install and how they can manipulate the system and application settings. As good as that is, you sometimes may need to allow a standard user to run a program with admin rights.

In those situations, you can use a free third party utility called RunAs Tool. But if you don’t want to use a third-party tool, here is how you can create your own shortcut of the target program in such a way that it runs with the admin rights without entering any admin password whatsoever.

Let Standard Users Run Programs as Admin

To let standard users run a program with administrator rights, we are using the built-in Runas command. To start, you need to know two things before you can do anything. The first is the computer name, and the second is the username of your administrator account.

If you don’t know the computer name, press Win + X, then select the “System” option.

The above action will open the System window. Here you will find your computer name listed.

In my case, I’m selecting a simple application called Search Everything. This app indexes your entire system to find files faster and requires admin rights to work. You can also set up Enhanced Search to search Windows 10.

After selecting the application, this is how the “Create Shortcut” window looks.

Enter the following command at the beginning of the file path. Don’t forget to replace ComputerName and Username with the actual details.






The completed command looks something like this.

That’s it. You’ve created a custom shortcut for your program. By default, the shortcut you’ve created will not have a proper icon.

After the first time, whenever a user launches the application using the shortcut you just created, it will be launched with admin rights. The savecred option in the above command will save the admin password so that users can run the application as an admin without actually entering the password.

In fact, if you open the Windows Credentials Manager and navigate to “Windows Credentials,” you will see the saved password.

If you ever want to restrict the user from running the target app as an administrator, simply delete the shortcut or remove the saved credential from the Windows Credential Manager.

Change Permissions

While the shortcut method typically works the best overall, you can also change the permissions on the program or folder the standard user needs access to. This gets tricky, though. While you may give them full access to execute a program, this won’t give them access to edit other parts of the system which the program may require, such as the registry.

However, it’s worth trying. This only adds the ability to run a program with admin rights to a specific program or folder.

Navigate to the program’s folder. In my tests, certain programs worked just by changing the permissions on the executable itself, while others required access to the entire folder.

Select “Edit.” Either choose the user from the provided list and change the permissions to “Full Control” under Allow, or select “Add” to add a new user and give them Full Control access.

Press Apply to save your changes. You need to be logged in as an administrator to do this.

How To Run Multiple Android Apps On Windows Pc With Phone Link App

Your Phone app, now called Phone Link app, is a product of the collaborative efforts of Samsung and Microsoft which offered users to operate Android apps via their Windows 11/10 computers.

While there were web platforms for apps that are of the most basic use to most people, Twitter, Instagram for instance, Your Phone meant putting the entire experience of operating your phone into your computer; using one centralized device. At the time, it seemed like the feature would be a Note 20 exclusive, but in November last year Microsoft came up with the Windows Insider Program, and members of that program were given access to the app.

In recent developments, Microsoft rolled out the Your Phone app to all Windows 11/10 users who use select Android devices. Through Your Phone, you get to explore every nook and cranny of your android device through your PC, be it making calls, sending messages, or even streaming videos. There are certain requirements concerning both your phone and your PC that you would have to comply with in order to use the Your Phone app.

It goes without saying that the app sports only Samsung devices and then too, not all of them were able to make the cut. The list of devices that support the Your Phone app includes Galaxy Fold, Galaxy S20, S20 Lite, Z Flip, among others. For the purposes of this article, I’ll be demonstrating the app using my Samsung Galaxy S9.

Run multiple Android apps on PC with Phone Link app

The first step, after having checked that your Samsung device is among the select few, is to open Your Phone on your PC and follow to steps below.

Open the Your Phone app on your PC and select the OS your mobile phone operates on.

After doing as said above, confirm that the installation has been completed and open the QR code, which will be generated shortly afterward.

Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code displayed on the computer’s Your Phone page.

Doing so would then ask you to log in to your Microsoft account and wait for a confirmation of relevant permission to be granted before a connection is formed between your phone and your PC.

You can then navigate to the Apps section from the list of features (which are discussed below in detail) and operate several of them through your computer.

Features of Your Phone App

The functionalities of your android phone have been broadly divided by the Your Phone app into 5 categories, namely Notifications, Messages, Apps, Calls, and Photos. I will be walking you through each one of them individually. The three dashes on the top-left toggle the Features tray, in case you want each section to expand to the entire screen.


This is the first setting you’ll find in the app. The app will seek access to your phone’s database, which you can grant via the notification that will be sent to it. After enabling permissions, the interface of your phone’s notifications will look something like this:


After notifications are your phone’s messages. You will find a list of the recent contacts with whom you have communicated over text messages. In case you feel like the app hasn’t kept up with your recent texts, you can refresh them. Next to it is an option for you to write a new message, which subsequently opens a screen next to the contacts list, where you can compose a message and send it to the desired contact.


Next up are the photos and one of the things about the Your Phone app bugged me concerns this section. Here, the app displays all the pictures in your phone’s gallery without an option for you to choose specific folders and locations to browse pictures. Here, in case you want to look for a particular picture you would have to browse through all the pictures stored on your phone.



Finally, is your calling interface. Upon linking your phone’s call logs you will find the recent contacts you’ve connected with over a call with a keypad interface next to it, which you can use to make calls via your PC.

All in all, I found this app to be very useful and satisfactory. It helps me cut down on time and friction between using my phone and computer. I hope people who are looking for similar solutions find this to be useful.

As an iPad Safari user, you also surely know about opening new tabs in the same Safari window. However, if you are like me, you may like to have many things open at once, but hate the clutter. Fortunately, for Safari on iPad, you can actually just open up a completely new Safari window – no need to use split screen or anything like that.

In this article, we will explain how to open another Safari window on iPad, and then we’ll also throw in some information on the other window/tab options available for Safari on iPad – such as Split View, opening new tabs, and viewing all open tabs and windows.

How to Open an Additional Safari Window on iPad

First, let’s take a look at the menu that pops up when you press (tap and hold briefly) the Safari icon. If you don’t have any Safari windows open currently, you see the following:

So, from here you can see that you can open or show:

New Tab – Tapping on this will just open a Safari window.

New Private Tab – Tapping on this will open a Private window.

Show Bookmarks – Pretty much just opens a Safari window.

Show Reading List – Also, just opens a Safari window.

The other menu options are the standard Edit Home Screen and Remove App that you will find when you press on any iPad app icon. Now, except for New Private Tab, most of these are not particularly interesting or useful if you don’t already have a Safari window open – you could just tap on the icon to open a new window. Let’s see what happens when we have previously opened a Safari window, and we press on the Safari icon:

So, the main difference you can see is that there is a new option, Show All Windows. However, now that you have a Safari window open, some of the options have a different effect, so we’ll go through all of them:

New Tab – Tapping on this will open a new tab in your previously opened Safari window.

New Private Tab – Tapping on this will open a Private window – unless you had previously opened a private window, in which case this just opens a new tab in that window.

Show Bookmarks – Opens your Bookmarks on the left side of your Safari window.

Show Reading List – Opens your Reading List on the left side of your Safari window.

Show All Windows – This is the one that will allow you to open a new Safari window; I don’t know why there isn’t an option called “Open New Window” – but there isn’t.

Opening the New Safari Window

Now, from start to finish, here’s how to open a new Safari window when you already have one open.

Assuming you have previously opened a Safari window. If necessary, swipe that Safari window out of your way so that you can see your Safari app icon. Press on the icon.

In the menu that appears, tap on Show All Windows.

You will see all of your open Safari windows. From this screen you can:

Swipe up to close a window.

Tap on a window to open it.

Tap on Reopen Closed Window to open up the last Safari window you closed.

Open a new window – tap on the little plus sign inside a circle that you see in the upper-right corner of your screen.

How To Force Windows Indexing Service To Run Faster

Windows uses Indexing Service to index files and folders. Once indexed, you can use the File Explorer search bar or the Windows Start Menu to search for your files. However, when you are using your computer, Windows slows down or stops the indexing service for a better user experience. This is not an issue for the most part.

However, if you’ve just rebuilt the Search Index or added a lot of files, then it might take a considerable amount of time for the indexing service to index all those files. To solve this issue you can force Windows to ignore the user and run the indexing service as and when needed thus making it faster and more reliable.

Using Group Policy Editor

You can force Windows Search Indexing Service to run even when a user is using the system by configuring a policy setting with the Group Policy Editor.

To start, press Win + R, type gpedit.msc and press the Enter button.

To make the changes take effect, either execute the following command in the Command Prompt as an admin or restart the system.




Form this point onward, Windows won’t slow down the indexing service when you are using the system, thus indexing your newer files much more quickly.

Using Windows Registry Editor

Note: before modifying the registry, create a good backup or create a system restore point.

If you are using Windows Home edition, then you won’t have access to the Group Policy Editor. But you can use Windows Registry to make the changes.

Just like with the Group Policy Editor, press Win + R, type regedit and press the Enter button to open Windows Registry.

After opening Windows Registry, navigate to the following location:

Here we need to modify the “DisableBackOffOnUser” value. However, being a system key, you cannot modify it like the other regular values. If you try to modify it, you will be greeted with the following error message.

Restart your system to make sure the changes take effect.
