Microsoft used to produce its own smartphone and OS, but recently they have moved away from maintaining their own smartphone operating system and are developing software for other mobile phones.
Their Windows OS for mobile phones is no longer in production, and in its place they are developing mobile apps for Android and iOS. These new programs are more user-friendly and allow you to sync your work progress between your PC and your phone without losing data or formatting.
It isn’t the first time Microsoft has made it possible for Android users to use programs like Word, Excel, or Outlook on their phones, but they have significantly improved their functionality. The new apps connect your work on your phone to your computer and back again so that you can use the apps wherever you are.
So if you get an idea for a project you are working on when you are away from your computer, you can create a document in Word or PowerPoint on your phone. When you get home, you won’t have to do anything to get the document except open the program on your PC.

Here’s how to get these apps onto your phone and get them working.
Sync Your Phone to Your PCFirst, you need to link your phone to your computer and your Microsoft account.

Make Your Android Look Like A Windows Phone 8
Starting out
You will need to head over to the Google Play Store and download the launcher and install it. To start messing around the launcher, press the home button and make it the default launcher. If you are just trying it out, depending on the Android version you are using, you could use the “Just once” option.
You will be at the default layout. Your wallpaper will remain the same, but the screen will be covered mainly by the tiles. With the tiles, it is pretty hard to see so possibly changing it to a solid color might lend to a more appealing layout. From here you can make changes like most home screens to customize it how you’d like to use it.
The tiles tab lets you adjust colors and transparencies. The desktop tab lets you make adjustments like having a screen lock (locking the tiles to the screen) , scroll effect and the wallpaper transparency.
The Preferences offers a lot of things to change. What will be useful is to take a look at the gestures. Swiping up with two fingers gets you to the app drawer, down with two fingers gets you to the Preferences. To change what the gestures do, tap on the option and choose a new action for it from the list.
The tilesThe tiles are the biggest part of what makes Windows 8’s look unique. When adding an app to the home screen, the process is the same. However, when the shortcut is added, you can make some changes to it. Mainly the size. You may have a lot of room on the screen and you’d like to have it taken up by a Gallery shortcut. Press and drag the arrow in the bottom right corner to resize it. To change the color, press the pencil at the top left.
Widgets can also be added to your home screen in the same manner. edited similarly too. Further customizing can be done using Apex/Nova/Go/Adw icon packs.

How To Access Pc Files On Your Android Phone
Being able to access the files on your computer when you are away, right from your mobile phone, can be very useful. Sometimes we need to access some important files on the PC, but aren’t home. At times like these, there are ways to access the computer using your Android smartphone.
Of course, the PC that needs to be accessed, has to be switched on, and you will need a data connection. If you’re at home, and are just lazy to go to the computer, then you can access files over a Wi-Fi connection.
There are many apps and software available that can do this, but we’re going to talk about the easiest way to access your PC from your Android phone. Mainly, we will be talking about two apps here, so read on.

How to access PC files on Android Phone
We are going to tell you how to do this using an Android phone. Or tablet, or any other Android device for that matter. Like we said, there are two ways you can do this. One requires your device to be on the same Wi-Fi network as your PC, and the other method requires Internet connection on your mobile, a mobile app, and a desktop client installed and set up on PC. In both cases, as mentioned earlier, the computer has to be running and connected to the internet.
Access PC files using same Wi-Fi connection
The first method requires both the Android device and the PC to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Here, we will be using an app that’s available on the Play Store, to access files from PC on your Android phone. You can even copy paste and delete files. The app that helps us do all of that, is called File Manager (yeah, it’s a common name, so know that this is from developer named ‘Flashlight + Clock’ — yes, that’s the name of the developer).
The app is not only pretty helpful with accessing PC file, but is also the best File Manager/Explorer app in our eyes. You would love this app.
Now, using the File Manager app, you can gain access to your PC from your Android phone. Here’s how to do this. Launch the app, then select the Remote option on its main screen. Now, tap on ‘Add a remote location‘ and select Local Network. You should see the computers that are on the same network as your phone.
Select one, and enter the username and password for that PC. That’s about it, you should now be able to access the files on your phone. Remember, this app also acts as a file manager, which is definitely a plus.

Using Internet (from anywhere, needs PC setup)
If you would need to access PC files when away from home, in which case it’s a given that your PC and you won’t be on the same Wi-Fi network, you can still access PC files once you have set it up so.
Using the Pushbullet Android app and its Desktop client, you can easily achieve this. Of course, you need your computer left on at home/office, but now wherever you are, you can access PC files with the help of Internet connection, and Pushbullet app on your mobile, pretty easily.
Now, open the app, make sure you have signed into the app with the same ID as on the Desktop client, and check out the left pane (swipe from left edge to right). You should see a ‘Remote Files’ option. Select this option and you will be able to browse through all your files on the PC.
Tip: By default, it fires up your User folder from PC. You can use the up arrow button at top right to move to parent folder, and this reach My Computer screen to see all Drives listed, and change the drive or simply browse into any directory from there.
However, there is a catch here. If you’re using your phone’s data connection, make sure you remember that the app will download whatever file you want to view. This means that it will use your data connection to download the file. Also, the free version of the app only lets you share up to 25MB a file, while the Pro version allows for up to 1GB.
Apart from that, Pushbullet is also a great option for anyone who wants to get their phone notifications on their PC. You can even reply to messages from your PC in case your phone is out of reach.
How To Create Your Own Cloud Storage With An Old Android Phone.
By default Windows 10 and Android have pretty decent file-sharing capabilities, however, there are still a lot of lacking aspects to the system. Thankfully it is possible to improve on this system dramatically and enable full cross device file sharing and sync. If you set this system up correctly, you can basically create your own cloud storage system with very little cost. So let’s get started!

Windows 10 and Android work very well together natively and don’t necessarily require a ton of different programs and apps to enable basic tasks like file sharing and screen mirroring (among lots of others). That said! There are quite a few different ways you can improve on the cross-device and ecosystem environment shared between Android and Window.
In the past, we’ve covered sharing and controlling your Android device from Windows using SCRCPY and streaming audio from your Android device to Windows using SNDCPY which have both proven to be super popular and invaluable. So in keeping with tradition, this guide will be focusing on another really useful and quite important cooperative feature to have enabled between Windows 10 and Android. The ability to share and sync files wirelessly between all your devices. If used correctly, this has the potential to be set up as a personal cloud storage system.
To begin, you’ll need a couple of things. First, you’ll need a Windows 10 PC, an Android device and a tool called Resilio Sync. With these three things, you’ll be able to set up a system that syncs any content you choose between all devices for free. Although this sounds no better than OneDrive, Google Backup and Sync, DropBox, etc. It is entirely free and fully controlled by you.
For instance, if you have an old Android phone in a drawer that you never use with an SD card slot, you can essentially whack an SD card in it and set it up as an always-connected cloud storage device for everything else on your network.
How to set up full Android to Windows file sync using Resilio Sync.
To start this process download and install the Resilio Sync software on your Windows 10 computer. When you install it just leave the additional options as default. Though you can disable the Start Resilio Sync when Windows starts if you like.
Once you have selected a folder, configure the access options as you desire. Just make sure you make it Read & Write if you want to be able to add and remove content from it. We’ll be using the QR code option shortly, so note where it is.
At the top of this screen, you will see three options: Link, Key, QR Code. These are how you share access with other devices. If you want to grant other PCs access to your folder/s use Key or Link. For Android devices use the QR code option.
Now that you have the Windows side of things set up, grab your Android device and install Resilio Sync from the Google Play Store. Once you have installed it, open it and do the following.
After you’ve watched or skipped the tour (your choice) give your device a name then decide if you are going to allow mobile data sync. This is an important step you don’t want to burn through all your mobile data syncing data constantly. Personally, I’ve said No. After you have decided tap Done in the top right-hand corner.
Next, allow access to storage items and you’ll be taken to the next screen where you have several different options at your disposal. Create a folder then we’ll link it to Windows in the next step. You can link it to another Android device also if you wish.
Note: If you don’t allow access you won’t be able to use the service and you will get a read/write permissions access error.
That’s the final step, you’ve linked your devices to be fully synced with each other. If you have given read and write access you’ll be able to add and remove files from the folders regardless of the device you are using. Now, whenever you place content in the folders you’ve created on each device, you’ll be able to view, edit and add or delete them as you please. Just remember that if you have read/write enabled making a change on one device will make the change across all of them.
How do you fix Resilio read-write permissions error?
If you are trying to set up Resilio to work between your Android device and another device, either Windows or Android. But keep getting permission write read error, you’ll need to double-check permissions on your device.
How to Set up your own cloud storage service using an old Android phone and Resilio Sync.
Using the steps shown above you can create your own cloud storage system by doing the following.
First, get an old Android device, any will do, though the bigger the storage the better. If it has SD card support you can expand the storage size by adding any size SD card you like.
Once you have your Android device, simply set up Resilio Sync on it and connect all the devices you wish to sync with.
That’s it, all you have to do now is keep the device connected to WiFi and powered on and you’ve got your own cloud storage system.
Emulators For Android: Can Your Phone Handle These Consoles?
Portable evolved: Nintendo DS and Sony PSP
The Nintendo DS (NDS) and Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) have seen an explosion in emulator interest on Android over the past five years. The DS might be less powerful than Sony’s handheld, but both consoles have their fair share of killer titles.
The most popular DS emulator is paid app DraStic, and the developer actually has comprehensive system requirements on its forum. More specifically, you need an Arm v7a processor or better (basically anything other than ancient Cortex-A5 CPU cores), 256MB of RAM or better, a 480 x 320 display or higher, and Android 2.3 at the very least. The team recommends a quad-core CPU if you plan to run games beyond native resolution.
True to form, DraStic runs well on a device packing a budget quad-core processor, with the likes of Mario Kart DS and Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time running well with high-resolution rendering enabled.
Meanwhile, PPSSPP is undoubtedly one of the most popular emulators for Android and doesn’t seem to have a fixed spec sheet for requirements. An aging hardware guide on the official website specifically suggests the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6, as well as the Galaxy S series. However, founder Henrik Rydgard notes that pretty much any recent smartphone should be able to run the emulator.
“The absolute minimal hardware requirements are so small these days that they’re not worth mentioning. Any device out there should be able to run PPSSPP to some degree, even if the more heavy games will run slow,” Rydgard noted on the project’s GitHub page.
God of War: Chains of Olympus is one of the most technically demanding PSP titles to emulate. Nevertheless, our testing found it runs at a mostly smooth, very playable pace on the Snapdragon 660-equipped vivo V11 Pro (at 2x resolution) and was mostly playable on the Snapdragon 450-toting Xiaomi Redmi 5 at the PSP’s native resolution.
Demanding games like God of War: Chains of Olympus and Wipeout Pure perform poorly on low-end smartphones (quad-core Cortex-A53 devices and below) without severe resolution adjustments and other tweaks. However, less demanding titles still deliver a mostly smooth experience once you start fiddling with basic settings.
Frame skipping is one handy tweak that’s available on both PPSSPP and DraStic. This option can make a big difference to playability, especially on lower-end devices that might be on the cusp of smooth performance.
Much like the Nintendo 64 vs PlayStation, Nintendo DS games are much smaller than PSP titles. Plenty of internal storage or a microSD slot is a must if you plan to play several PSP games.
An Emotion Engine in your phone: Sony PlayStation 2

Are PS2 emulators the most impressive feat in Android smartphone emulation right now? When you consider Sony’s PlayStation 2 hardware configurations, it would certainly seem so. While Microsoft used what was essentially off-the-shelf PC parts for the original Xbox and Nintendo’s GameCube had well-documented hardware that was easy to program for, Sony’s PS2 had exotic custom hardware that made game development difficult.
So color us surprised when, in December 2023, a lone developer released AetherSX2. This emulator — based on the PC-only emulator PCSX2 — allows you to play many PS2 titles on high-end Android hardware.
How high-end does it need to be? AetherSX2’s developer recommends you not even bother if you don’t have a Snapdragon 845 or higher. They specifically say that you’ll need four large CPU cores (Cortex-A75 or higher). In terms of the GPU, the developer says Adreno graphics offers better performance than Mali or PowerVR GPUs found in MediaTek, HiSilicon, and Samsung Exynos processors. Furthermore, the Adreno GPU fully supports the Vulkan renderer.
Even if you have a powerful enough phone, though, your experience will vary from game to game. If you want to be able to play the most games, you’ll want the most powerful phone you can get. A 2023 flagship like the Galaxy S23 Ultra would be your best bet for now. Do note that one hard requirement is that you need a 64-bit processor and a 64-bit version of Android. That rules out phones from 2014 or earlier in particular, as well as devices like the NVIDIA Shield tube model, which uses a 32-bit version of Android.

Download KWLP
KWLP is an absolutely amazing application that is practically a Live Wallpaper maker on steroids. You could literally go bonkers with the number of customization options offered within the KWLP application; however, it might require a bit more time and effort if you want to fine-tune the live wallpapers to suit your preference.
Nonetheless, you could also use presets which make things much easier and save you a lot of time by giving you a break from tinkering around and creating your own live wallpaper from scratch.

Try out the KWGT widget app

Not only can you tweak the color of the slider, but you are also free to use iOS or MIUI style volume controls, and even change their positioning on your screen. The application is available for free on the Google Play Store but some elements may require in-app purchases.
