Suggested April 2024 How To Unmerge Cells In Google Docs On Mac, Windows, Android Or Ios

When it comes to editing documents, you won’t go wrong with Google Docs as the service lets you create and make changes to documents on any device you may have. In addition to having editing tools like indenting, voice typing, inserting shapes, fractions, and margins, you can also use Google Docs to make flyers, surveys, and flowcharts.

Like Google Sheets, you can create and add multiple tables inside your document on Google Docs and customize it with your own style and size. If you’re dealing with tables on a Google Docs document, one of the tools you may use occasionally is the merge cells functionality.

In case your table already has cells that have been merged before, the following post should help you unmerge them so that you can enter different information on individual cells.

How to unmerge cells in a table on Google Docs on Mac/Windows

Google Docs’ web app is perhaps the most convenient means to edit documents you create on the service. If you wish to unmerge cells from a document on your computer, you need to first launch Google Docs on a web browser on your Mac or Windows and then open a document where you wish to edit a table.

If there are a lot of merged cells located next to each other and you want to unmerge all of them, you can select them by dragging the cursor towards the desired cells horizontally or vertically to select cells in a row or column respectively.

Method 2: Using the Format tab

The selected cells will now disintegrate into individual cells inside the table.

How to unmerge cells in a table on Google Docs on Android/iOS

You can unmerge cells inside a table straight from your phone within the Google Docs app on Android or iOS.

On Android

To unmerge cells on an Android device, open the Google Docs app on your phone.

Inside Google Docs, locate and tap on the document you wish to edit.

When the document opens, tap on the pencil icon at the bottom right corner of the screen.

This will enable edit mode for the document you want to modify. Inside this document, scroll to the table you wish to edit merge cells. In this table, tap on the cell you wish to unmerge.

If there are multiple merged cells adjacent to each other you want to unmerge, drag the blue dot at its bottom right corner and move it over the adjacent cells you want to unmerge.

When the desired cells are highlighted, tap on the 3-dots icon from the overflow menu.

In the menu that appears next, select Unmerge cells.

The selected cell will be unmerged into individual cells and you can now enter different data to each of the unmerged cells by tapping on them.

On iOS

To unmerge cells on an iPhone, open the Google Docs app on iOS.

Note: Unlike the Android version, the iOS app for Google Docs doesn’t offer a way to unmerge multiple cells at once. You will have to manually unmerge each of the merged cells to get the desired result.

When you select the desired cell to unmerge, tap on the A icon (otherwise called the Format button) at the top right corner.

You will now see a menu at the bottom half of the screen. Here, select the Table tab on the right and scroll down to the bottom.

Here, turn off the Merge cells toggle at the bottom.

The selected cell will be unmerged into individual cells and you can now enter different data to each of the unmerged cells by tapping on them.

What happens when you unmerge cells you merged previously?

When cells are merged on Google Docs, the combined cell takes up the entire data from all the cells that were selected.  However, during unmerging, the merged data won’t be split into multiple cells that are created after. When you unmerge a cell, its data is retained inside a single cell, generally, the topmost or leftmost cell of the group of unmerged cells. The rest of the cells that were unmerged will be left blank and you will have to manually fill each of them with the desired data.

That’s all you need to know about unmerging cells in a table on Google Docs.

How To Change Default Search Engine In Microsoft Edge In Windows, Mac, Android, Ios

In it’s Chromium avatar, Microsoft Edge has surpassed Firefox to become the second-most popular web-browser on desktops after Google Chrome. However, it comes with Microsoft’s Bing as the default search engine, something that doesn’t seem to be a popular choice for many. So if you’re one of those who want to use a different search provider, you’ve come to the right place. Because today, we’ll discuss how to change default search engine in Microsoft Edge on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS.

Change Default Search Engine in Microsoft Edge

You can change the default search engine in Microsoft Edge easily on all leading mobile and desktop platforms. Like Google Chrome, Microsoft’s new web browser also supports any search provider that uses OpenSearch. Given that all leading search providers support the technology, you should easily be able to change from Bing to Google, DuckDuckGo, Startpage etc. on all platforms.

Change Microsoft Edge Default Search on Windows and Mac

While I’m using Windows for this tutorial, the process of changing the default search engine in Edge is the same in Windows and Mac. Also note that this article is for the new Microsoft Edge Chromium. If you’re still using the legacy Edge, you should immediately update to the new version (download) for enhanced security and additional features.

To change your default search engine in Microsoft Edge Chromium, first copy+paste edge://settings/search into the address bar and hit Enter.

That’s it! You’ve now successfully changed Microsoft Edge default search on Windows or Mac.

Add New Default Search Option to Microsoft Edge

You can also add a new search engine to Edge Chromium. Here’s how you do it:

There’s also an easier way to add a search engine in Edge. For that, first open the browser and go to the search engine of your choice (, chúng tôi etc).

Now go back to the search settings page as described earlier (edge://settings/search). The search engine or website you visited will now appear in the list of options you can select.

That’s it! You’ve now successfully added new search engine to Microsoft Edge on Windows or Mac.

Edit or Delete Search Engine in Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge Chromium also lets you edit or delete all of the available search engines, including Bing. Just remember that you can’t edit the URL for the built-in options, nor can you delete the current default search engine. That said, let’s get cracking.

Change Microsoft Edge Default Search in Android

The Edge browser is available on both desktops and mobiles, including on Android (free) and iOS (free). However, unlike on computers, you can only set the search engine in the mobile apps to either Google, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo, alongside the default Bing. Unfortunately, there’s no option to add more Search Engines on either Android or iOS. Be that as it may, here’s how you change default search engine in Edge on Android:

Launch the Microsoft Edge Android app. Now tap on the ‘Menu’ button (three dots) at the bottom and select ‘Settings’ from the popup pane.

In the Settings page, scroll down and hit ‘Search’ under the ‘Advanced’ section. Now select the ‘Default search engine’ option (it is set to ‘Bing’ by default).

You can choose any alternative search engine like Google, Yahoo or DuckDuckGo. I chose the last one, and it is now my default search provider on Edge in Android.

Change Microsoft Edge Default Search in iOS

Open Edge and tap on the ‘Menu’ button (three dots) at the bottom of the screen. Now select ‘Settings’ from the popup pane.

Now go to ‘Advanced Settings’ and select ‘Search Engine’.

Here, tap on Others to see options for default search, including Google and DuckDuckGo. Select the search engine that you want. That’s it! You’ve now successfully changed search engine in Microsoft Edge on iOS.

Note: If you don’t see DuckDuckGo as an option, make a manual search on DuckDuckgo and then it will appear in the list.

Switch From Bing to Google in Microsoft Edge on Computers and Smartphones

Now that you know how to change your default search provider in Edge, you’re probably itching to make the switch from Bing to Google. While Google will be the obvious choice for most users, I suggest you pick a more privacy-focused service like DuckDuckGo or Startpage. Either way, whichever option you choose, once you add a custom search engine in Edge, let us know which one you picked and why.

Finally, don’t forget to check out our articles on best Edge Flags, customizing Edge, and enabling news and weather widgets on Edge, among others. They will help you get the most out of this browser.

How To Add Google Maps Location To Google Docs.

If you are using Google Docs as your main word processing tool, you’ll be aware of most of the powerful tools and options you have at your disposal. While most of the features are standard across traditional word processing software, Google has recently added an option that allows you to add Google Maps location information directed into Google Docs.

Google Docs is a powerful,l free word processing tool that is available for anyone to use. It has all of the basics anyone will ever need to create simple text documents as well as a range of more complex tools that tie into some of Google’s other products like Sheets, Slides, and more recently Google Maps.

How do you add Google Maps to Google Docs? Add Google Maps info to Google Docs.

Although not everything that Google does is simple and straightforward, this feature is about as simple as it gets. But most people won’t have a clue where to look to find it which is where we come in! You’re welcome!

To begin, the first thing you are going to need to do is to sign in to Google Docs and open an existing document or create a new one.

Now simply type the name of the place you’d like to add to your document, then select it from the list of options.

When it has been added it will look like this: Kalgoorlie – Boulder

It is essentially an active Google Maps link that will take you directly to the location on Google Maps. If you are on a mobile device and you see one of these links you can choose to open it in Google Maps.

That’s all there is to it. It’s quick easy and a really handy way to add location data to documents and other projects you may be creating in Google Docs.

Using Google Chrome?

If you’re also using Google Chrome, you may fish to disable the new Google Trends feature on Google Search. This potentially annoying feature uses user data and current popular search trends to suggest you content when you are searching using chúng tôi or Google from Chrome.

10 Ways To Screenshot Entire Webpage On Mac Or Windows

If you are looking for how to capture a full web page screenshot on Mac or PC, this post for you. I’ve tried a handful of tools and techniques that claim to be able to screenshot an entire webpage, but only a few still work as of this writing.

You want to get this done quickly, so I’ll show you how to do it step by step. I’ll also point out the pros and cons of each method, just wanted to save your time figuring out which method is the best for you.

This guide is for those who want to take a whole screenshot of the entire or long web page — meaning there are sections that aren’t totally visible on your screen.

If you simply want to capture a static window or a full desktop screen, this guide is not for you. You can use the built-in tools on your computer or phone to get that done quickly: Shift + Command + 4 (macOS) or Ctrl + PrtScn (Windows).

Don’t want to download any software or extension? Try Method 1 or Method 7.

If you are using the Mozilla Firefox browser, try Method 2.

If you want to capture the screenshots as well as make simple edits, try Method 3, 5, 6.

Quick Update: For Mac users, it is even possible to capture a full-sized screenshot without a browser extension.

1. Open DevTools in Chrome (command + option + I)

2. Open the Command Menu (command + shift + P) and type in “screenshot”

3. Select one of the two options “Capture full size screenshot” of “Capture screenshot”.

4. The captured image will be downloaded to your computer.

— Tip contributed by our reader, Hans Kuijpers.

1. Print and Save an Entire Webpage as a PDF

Suppose you want to extract, say, an Income Statement sheet from Yahoo Finance. First, open the page on a web browser. Here, I use Chrome on my Mac as an example.

Step 3: If you want to embed the financial sheet into a PowerPoint project, you may need to convert the PDF into an image in PNG or JPEG format first, then crop the image only to include the data part.

It’s quick.

No need to download any third-party software.

The screenshot quality is good.

Extra time may be needed to convert the PDF file into an image.

It’s difficult to directly customize the screenshots.

2. Firefox Screenshots (for Firefox Users)

Firefox Screenshots is a new feature developed by the Mozilla team to help you take, download, collect and share screenshots. You can use this feature to quickly save a screenshot of an entire web page.

Step 2: Select the “Save Full Page” option.

Step 3: Now you can choose to download the image directly to your computer desktop.

Side note: I saw that this feature is still in BETA, so it’s not guaranteed that Firefox will keep it. But by the time this post was last updated, this feature is still accessible. Also, the most popular web browser like Apple Safari or Google Chrome doesn’t offer this feature yet.

3. Parallels Toolbox for Mac (Safari)

If you want to take a scrolling screenshot on Mac, you’ll love this feature called “Screenshot Page” in Parallels Toolbox which includes a handful of small utilities.

Note: Parallels Toolbox is not freeware, but it offers a 7-day trial without any functional limitations.

I used this page on Software as an example and it worked very well.

The quality of the output PDF file is very good.

You don’t have to scroll manually as the app will do it for you.

Besides screenshotting a webpage, you can also capture an area or window.

It takes a bit of time to install the app.

It’s not freeware, though a 7-day no limitation trial is provided.

4. Awesome Screenshot Plugin (for Chrome, Firefox, Safari)

Here are the links to add the plugin:

Firefox (Note: since the Firefox Screenshots is now available, I don’t recommend this plugin any longer. See method 2 for more.)

I’ve tested the plugin on Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, and they all work well. To make things easier, I’ll use Google Chrome as an example. The steps for using Awesome Screenshot for Firefox and Safari are quite similar.

Step 2: Hit “Add extension.”

Step 5: Hit the “download” icon to save the screenshot image. That’s it!

Extremely easy to use.

Image editing features are great.

It’s compatible with major web browsers.

The extension may encounter some operational issues, according to its developer. I haven’t experienced any such issues yet.

5. Capture a Scrolling Window or Entire page with Snagit

I really like Snagit (review). It’s a powerful screen capture and editing app that allows you to do almost anything related to screenshotting. To take a full screenshot of a web page, follow the steps below (I’ll use Snagit for Windows as an example):

Please note: Snagit is not freeware, but it has a 15-day free trial.

Step 3: Now Snagit scrolls the page automatically and captures the off-screen parts. Soon, a Snagit Editor panel window will pop up with the screenshot it just took. See the available editing features listed there? That’s why Snagit stands out from the crowd: You can make as many changes as you’d like, with tons of options.

It’s able to capture a scrolling webpage as well as a window.

Powerful image editing features.

Very intuitive and easy to use.

It takes time to download and install the app (~90MB in size).

It’s not free, though it comes with a 15-day trial.

6. Capto App (for Mac Only)

Capto is a productivity app for many Mac users, myself included. The core value of the app is to record screen videos on your Mac, but it also allows you to capture screenshots and save the images to its library. You then can easily edit, organize and share them.

Here’s how to take an entire screenshot using Capto:

Step 2: You can also edit the screenshot e.g. highlight an area, add an arrow or text, etc. using the tools on the left panel.

Note: if you select to let Capto snap a web page from the active browser, this may take some time in case of a longer webpage.

Other Methods

During my exploration, I also found a few other working methods. I don’t want to feature them above because they aren’t as good considering the time and effort you need to invest and the quality of output. Nonetheless, they do work, so feel free to give some of them a try.

7. Capture a Full-size Screenshot on Chrome without a Browser Extension

This tip was kindly shared by one of our readers, Hans Kuijpers.

Open DevTools in Chrome (OPTION + CMD + I)

Open the Command Menu (CMD + SHIFT + P) and type in “screenshot”

Select one of the two options “Capture full size screenshot” of “Capture screenshot”.

The captured image will be downloaded to your computer.

8. Web-Capture.Net

It’s an online full-length website screenshot service. You first open the website, copy the URL of a web page you want to screenshot, and paste it here (see below). You can also choose which file format to export. Press “Enter” on your keyboard to continue.

Be patient. It took me about two minutes before I saw the message, “Your link has been processed! You can download file or ZIP archive.” Now you can download the screenshot.

It works.

No need to install any software.

9. Full Page Screen Capture (Chrome Extension)

Similar to Awesome Screenshot, Full Page Screen Capture is a Chrome plugin that is incredibly easy to use. Just install it (here’s the link to its extension page) on your Chrome browser, locate the web page you want to capture and hit the extension icon. A screenshot is made almost instantly. However, I found it less appealing because it does not have the image editing features that Awesome Screenshot has.

10. Paparazzi (Mac Only)

Update: this app hasn’t been updated for quite a long time, there may be compatibility issues with the latest macOS. I thus don’t recommend it anymore.

The main concern I have is that the app was last updated quite a few years ago, so I’m not sure if it will be compatible with future macOS versions.

How To Mirror Android Sms Alerts On An Ios Device

So here I am, an Android phone in one hand and an iPad in the other. My trusty Nexus 5X is by my side most of the day, but occasionally I set it aside for a midday charge, leaving me with nothing but my iPad to work with.

Well, there is, actually, but it takes a bit of work. With the help of a clever app that lets you create your own “applets,” your iOS device can alert you about texts, calls, and a few other events on your absent Android handset. Here’s the trick.

First, you’re going to need a specific app on both your Android phone and your iOS device (or devices). The app is called IFTTT, short for “If This, Then That.”

If you’re not already familiar with IFTTT, here’s the gist: With a wide-ranging menu of “triggers” and actions, you can create mini apps—or “applets,” as IFTTT calls them—that perform tasks under a particular set of circumstances.

Ben Patterson

The IFTTT app lets you create your own “applets” that perform actions based on “triggers,” such as an incoming text message on your Android device.

For example, you could create an applet that unmutes your Android phone the moment you arrive home, another that sends you an email if there’s rain in the forecast, and yet another that tweets out any links you post to Facebook.

Creating an IFTTT applet is simple: You simply pick a trigger, or an “if this,” then pick a “then that” action.

Building an applet

Our first step is to install IFTTT on our Android and iOS handsets. If you haven’t already, you’ll need to create an IFTTT account and log in on each of your devices—annoying, yes, but once that’s done, any IFTTT apps we create will appear automatically across all our IFTTT-connected gadgets.

Next, you’ll land on the Applet Maker screen, where you’ll see four big words: If, This, Then, and That, with the word “This” highlighted in blue with a big “+” sign next to it. Go ahead and tap This.

Ben Patterson

Once you’ve selected the Android SMS trigger, you can pick from a series of conditions, including “Any new SMS received.”

You’ll now see a big menu of multicolored tiles, each representing a trigger for your new applet. In the search box at the top, type in Android for a list of all the available Android triggers, one of which will be Android SMS. Tap it to open the trigger, then pick one of the available conditions; for this particular applet, I chose Any new SMS received. (Among the other options for the Android SMS trigger: Any new SMS sent, New SMS received matches search, and New SMS received from phone number.)

Once you tap that option, you’ll return to the ”If This Then That” screen. This time, the word “That” will be highlighted. Tap That, then tap an action—in this case, Notifications.

Ben Patterson

Tap the Notifications tile to make your new IFTTT applet fire off an alert whenever you get an SMS on your Android handset.

Bonus tip: Now that you’ve built your first IFTTT applet, try creating some more. For example, you can use the Android Phone trigger to fire off an iOS alert whenever you miss a call on your Android device, or to get a notification when your Android phone leaves or arrives at a certain location. There are also plenty of prebuilt applets to choose from.

Your Android SMS alerts, delivered on iOS

All set? The next time you receive an SMS on your Android phone, you’ll get an iOS IFTTT alert with the message text and sender included.

Ben Patterson

You can customize the notification text for your IFTTT applet by tapping its Settings button.

Bonus tip: If you want to send Android SMS messages via your iOS device, try MightyText. While there isn’t an iOS version of the MightyText app, there’s a MightyText web app that works reasonably well in Safari and Chrome for iOS.

Fix: Err_Address_Unreachable (Windows 11, Mac, Android)

ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE is an error code user may receive when visiting a website through Google Chrome. You can also get similar error code in other web browsers such as Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc. ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE can occur in all kinds of operating system – Windows, Mac, Android or iOS.

The error simply indicates that the web address queried is unreachable. It usually doesn’t come with sufficient information that help defuse the problem, which makes finding the cause of the problem difficult.

While the cause of the ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE error can be vast and sometimes unknown, the solutions are often the same. In this guide, we will show you several fixes and workarounds to fix the ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE error in Chrome on Windows 11, Mac or Android devices.

When there are conflicts or unknown errors caused by the router itself or your computer, a restart will usually fix the issue in majority of the cases. The very first thing you should try is to reboot your router and your computer or device.

To do a complete reboot of your router, turn off or unplug the power supply of your router and leave it for around 5 minutes. After that, turn it back on again. Do the same for your hub if your device is connected to one. At the same time, restart your Windows PC, Mac computer, or phone/tablet.

After restarting both the router and your device, retry visiting the same webpage on the same browser again and see if the issue is resolved.

Another common cause of the ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE error when opening a website is that you might be using a proxy server that is currently not working or is blocking the website. Depending on your connection setup, if allowed, try to disable any proxy setting on your computer or device and see if it fixes the issue.

Windows 11:

2. In the Local Area Network Settings window, disable the checkbox “Use a proxy servers for your LAN” under Proxy server.

Mac OS:

Then, select the Proxies tab and uncheck all checkboxes under “Select a protocol to configure” to disable all proxy settings on your Mac computer.

Android devices:

Then, tab the Clear data button to clear its cache and data. Note: Clearing the cache of Chrome app will clear all its data such as your history, saved login cookies, etc.

Windows / Mac:

Cookies and other site data

Cached images and files

Site Settings

Hosted app data

Browsing history (optional)

If you are on Windows 11 or Windows 10 and encounter the ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE error when visiting any website, try to run the following commands in CMD to reset the TCP/IP and flush the DNS cache.

ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns ipconfig /registerdns netsh winsock reset netsh int ip reset

After executing all the commands above, restart your PC and retry visiting a webpage on Chrome to see if the issue persists.

The ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE error can also be caused by the network you are connecting to. For example, if a WiFi network blocks a website such as Twitter or Facebook, you may get the error code upon visiting these websites. There can also be conflicts within the network that may cause users to receive the error on all websites.

Try to switch to a different network connection or ISP and see if it resolves the issue. If you are on an Android, iOS device or laptop computer (Mac or Windows), try to switch to a different WiFi network, Ethernet network or cellular network. If you are on mobile devices, try to switch from WiFi to cellular data or vice versa and see if it fixes the issue.

If you haven’t already tried, try to use a different browser other than the one you are using right now. If you were using Chrome and ended up getting the ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE error upon visiting a website, try to visit the same website with another browser such as Edge on Windows, Safari on Mac, or others, and see if the issue persists.

Chrome allows users to install plugins and extensions. Some of these extensions can alter the way you browse the web. To eliminate the possibility of an extension being the culprit of the ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE error, try to visit the webpage on an incognito tab.

Also, check your antivirus software or firewall program to see if it is blocking the website (or all websites) you are trying to reach, causing Chrome to return the ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE error. To quickly test this, temporarily turn off your antivirus and firewall and retry visit the problem website again.

Try to visit the website on a different device and network. Ask your friends to see if they can visit the same website. If no one else is able to visit the site, it indicates the site itself is currently encountering an outage. Try again in a while or contact the website’s administrator to inform them about their website’s outage.

If nothing works to resolve the ERR_ADDRESS_UNREACHABLE issue and you are unable to open any webpage on any device, feel free to contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) for help.
