Google has updated its Cloud Print service, and now we can use it from tablets, smartphones, chromebooks, as well as PCs. How can we use Google Cloud Print on Windows? Let’s check it out.
Until now, we could connect our printer to the cloud Cloud Print, and then print from our mobile device whenever we happen to be. There was only one downside, namely the service has previously been accessible only via Chrome. What’s more, the service was limited to print files from smartphones or tablets with Android – it was impossible to print files from another PC.
Google Cloud Print service
Google Cloud Print extension for Windows comes with two add-ons. The first component is a Google Cloud Print service, which lets you easily share printers in the cloud. Once you installed it, it runs silently in the background and makes your printers accessible in the cloud. Thanks to the inclusion of this service running in the background, we do not need to use our browser every time we want to print something from another device.
For this step, we need to use Google’s website and select: Download Cloud Print service. We need to launch Chrome to download and configure the service. When this is done, Cloud Print will ask you for authorization.
From now on, our printers are available in the cloud and we can print files directly from other devices using Google Cloud Print. We no longer need to run Google Chrome on the computer sharing the printer.
Printing files from another Windows PC
The second element is Google Cloud Printer, a virtual printer driver. If you carefully followed the instructions presented above, you already know how to print from a web page. But there’s still more than we can do with Google Cloud Printer. For example we can print from our Windows computer. For this reason, the service provides virtual printer driver, so that it is displayed in the system as a normal printer. If you want to print something from a text editor or any other program, your file will be redirected to the proper printer available in the cloud Google Cloud Print. In this way, Virtual Printer acts as a relay.
The service works fine and I did not notice any problems while testing except one – the service may not be able to print files from Modern UI in Windows 8. When it comes to traditional desktop applications, it works without any issues.

FaceTime, one of the most popular video-conferencing platforms, is now available in Windows. Ever since its release back in 2010, it catered exclusively to Apple devices. But with iOS 15, you can finally use Facetime in Windows 11 and its previous iterations.
Apart from Windows, FaceTime is available for Android and Linux users as well. Also, you can now access iCloud on Windows 11, though, unlike Facetime, it won’t be available for the earlier iterations.

You can save nearly anything as a PDF from iPhone, all it takes is using a little known 3D Touch trick available only in Sharing action menus. Essentially this trick allows you to perform the iOS equivalent of Print to PDF like you would see on desktops like a Mac or Windows PC, except it’s on the mobile iOS world and available to iPhone users with 3D Touch devices.
You can perform the Print to PDF trick in iOS from just about any app, as long as it has the Sharing button and could theoretically print from it. This includes Safari, Pages, Notes, and other apps you’d expect to have this feature in. For demonstration purposes here, we’ll walk through this with Safari where we will use the print to PDF trick on a web page.How to Print to PDF on iPhone with 3D Touch
This trick works the same to save just about anything as a PDF by using the print function within iOS, here’s how it works:
Open Safari (or another app you want to print to PDF from) and go to what you want to save as a PDF file
Tap the Sharing action button, it looks like a square with an arrow flying out of it
Now tap on “Print”
Next, perform a 3D Touch firm press on the first page preview to access the secret print to PDF screen option, this will open into a new preview window
Again tap on the Sharing action button at this new Print to PDF screen
Choose to save or share the document as a PDF – you can print to PDF and send it through messages, email, AirDrop, copy it to your clipboard, save the printed PDF to iCloud Drive, add it to DropBox, import it into iBooks, or any of the other options available in the sharing and saving actions
Your freshly printed PDF file will be available with whatever means you shared or saved the PDF. I typically choose to print the PDF and save it into iCloud Drive, but if you plan on sending it to another person through Messages or email to get a signature on the document or something similar, or send with AirDrop from the iPhone or iPad to a Mac, you can easily do that as well.
The ability to print to PDF is very popular and widely used, so it’s a bit of a mystery as to why iOS has this feature hidden behind a secret 3D Touch gesture within the Print function, rather than available as an obvious menu item within the Print menus like Print to PDF is on a Mac. As far as I can tell, there is absolutely nothing obvious to suggest this feature exists at all and it’s basically hidden, which is a little weird given how useful it is to save things like web pages or documents as PDF files. But now that you know it exists, you can print to PDF to your hearts delight, right from your iPhone. Perhaps a future version of iOS will make this great trick a bit more obvious, we’ll see.
In this article I’m going to mention the two main ways to generate a directory listing: using the command line or using a third-party program. If your needs are very simple, the command line method is the easiest and doesn’t require any additional tools. If you need a more fancy report, then check out the freeware utilities.

So let’s start with the command line method first since it’s easy and will probably be enough for 90% of the people reading this article. To get started, open Explorer and browse to the folder directory above the folder that you want to get the directory listing for.
At the command prompt, you have to type a very simple command:
The dir command generates a list of files and folders in the current directory and the right angle bracket says that the output should be sent to a file rather than onto the screen. The file will be created in the current folder and if you open it using Notepad, it’ll look like this:
By default, the command will give you the last modified date/time, the size of the files, the list of directories and the actual file names. If you want different information, you can add parameters to the command.
For example, if you don’t want all that extra information, you can print just the names of the files and folders using the following command:
In the above examples, you’ll notice there is a folder called Word Stuff, but the output doesn’t list any of the files inside that directory. If you want to get a listing of all files and folders including subdirectories of the current directory, then you would use this command:
The dir command has a bunch of other command line parameters which I won’t mention here, but you can check out a full list of them on Microsoft’s website. Using the extra parameters, you can also show file attributes (hidden, compressed, etc), show file ownership and more. You can then import the data into Excel and choose tab-delimited so that the data will be separated into individual columns rather than being bunched into one.Third-Party Freeware Directory List & Print
One of the best utilities for printing directory listings is Directory List & Print. When you download it, you’ll notice that some of the features are disabled. That’s because the free version doesn’t include all the options that are included in the Pro version. To unlock everything, you’ll have to pay $20.
However, unless you really need to print out directory listings on a daily basis, the free version will be more than enough for just about anybody. Once you install it, you have to first choose the directory that you want to print out. You can also choose from a list of favorites on the right hand side.
By default, Provide subdirectories and Provide files are checked. This means it’ll print out the list of files in the current directory and will include any folders also in the current directory. It will not list out the files that are in subdirectories. If you want to do that, you have to check the Run through subdirectories box at the bottom.
As you can see, you can include the creation date, modified date, file size, path, etc in the free version, but if you want file owner, file attributes, etc, you’ll need to unlock the software. In the example below, I checked Show file size and Run through subdirectories to get this output:
You can print it, copy to clipboard, or export out to Word and Excel. To be annoying, they disabled copy to Notepad and export to file in the free version. The Action tab is also completely disabled so won’t go into it here. Overall, the free version of the program does a great job and more than enough to get a complete and thorough listing of a directory.Karen’s Directory Printer
Karen’s Directory Printer is pretty old (2009), but still does a great job of exporting out directory listings. It doesn’t have as many options as Directory List & Print Pro, but compared to the free version, it’s quite close.
You have to pick from the Print tab or the Save to Disk tab first. Both are exactly the same, one just prints to a printer and the other saves the output to disk. Probably didn’t need two separate tabs for that, but it’s an old program.
Pick your folder and choose whether you want to print file names only, folder names only, or both. You can also tell it to search sub folders and print them out also. In addition, you can include or exclude system, hidden and read-only files.
You can also sort by file name, file extension, file size, date created, date modified and more. You can also put a file filter so that only certain types of files are printed, such as images only, sound files, executables, documents, etc.
There really isn’t much else to the software than what I have shown above. It runs fine on Windows 7 and Windows 8, so that’s great.
Unlike WhatsApp, Signal doesn’t have a web app, but offers desktop apps on Windows, Mac and Linux. However, like WhatsApp, you need to have the Signal mobile app installed and working on your phone (Android or iPhone) for it to work on your PC. So without further delay, let’s see how you can use Signal Messenger on your Windows 10 and Mac computers (desktops and laptops).
Note: I’m using Windows 10 for this demo, but the process is identical on Mac. The process is also similar for Android and iPhone users, but with one slight difference that we will clearly mention in our tutorial.Link and Use Signal on Your PC
To get started, download and install Signal Desktop on your computer (Windows / Mac). Once you open the app, you’ll see a QR code. It has to be scanned by the Signal mobile app to sync chats and messages.
Now open Signal Messenger on your phone and tap on the menu button (three dots) at the top-right corner. Then select ‘Settings’ from the popup menu.
Scan the QR code on your computer screen and the two apps will sync in a moment or two. Once they’re in-sync, tap on ‘Link Device’ as seen in the second screenshot below.
On the desktop app, choose a name for your linked devices and hit ‘Finish Linking Phone’.
Your desktop app will automatically sync your contacts with your phone and you will be able to send and receive messages on Signal Desktop. It might take a few minutes for all your chats, messages and contacts to sync between the two devices.Un-Link Signal Desktop With Your Phone
