Suggested April 2024 Kick Your Laptop Up A Notch With Kickflip
There are times when typing at a flat angle is uncomfortable. It is most noticeable when using my MacBook Air 13″. All of the keyboards I use, including Apple’s standard wireless keyboard, are angled for ease-of-use. Contrary to standard keyboards, Apples laptop line sits flat on the resting surface.
Asking to “kick it up a notch,” Bluelounge released the Kickflip just a few weeks ago. Hoping to increase productivity and ease everyone’s wrists, the Kickflip does just as the name suggests: props your laptop with just a flip.Form and function
Using a small footprint, the Kickflip makes a large difference in typing placement. Kickflip is 9″/23 cm and 11″/28 cm for 13″ and 15″ MacBooks, respectively. It is originally designed for a MacBook Pro, but works just as well on my MacBook Air. The device clings tightly to the laptop using a German engineered gel adhesive. The bond is fairly strong, but easily releases if tugged intently. Most importantly, the gel does not leave a residue and can be re-used by washing with mild soap and water.
The gel is a new direction for Bluelounge, which has used micro-suction padding in the past. Currently, I have no preference over one or the other. But, it is nice to see a company thinking ahead for its customers. Too many products are made for a one-and-done application. Any semi-permanently installed accessory is best designed with a re-usable technology.
When the kickstand is flipped out, it adds a little less than a one inch raise on the laptop backend. It still make a very noticeable difference. When closed, there is not a giant difference in the elevated height of the device.
Where you will run into trouble is form fitted laptop sleeves or accessories. I utilize a zippered sleeve for my MacBook Air on a daily basis. Because there is a little play in the Kickflip spring hinge, I must be careful when inserting the MacBook into the sleeve or it could catch. Just holding the MacBook level, the Kickflip dangles away from the bottom laptop casing. Consequently, I hold the Kickflip against the laptop while putting it away for the night. For hardshell cases, I presume the Kickflip’s gel adhesion strip would work just fine on the exterior. This would allow you to still enjoy the added angle, while keeping your MacBook protected in a clip shell. Conclusion
Usually, I have a review prepped for the day-of launch for Bluelounge products with a positive review ready to roll. However, I took extra time with this review to determine my true feelings. Even chatting with another fellow review editor about the product helped me form an opinion. The Kickflip is a solid product, fixing a common problem for all users in a simple way. After all, that is what all Bluelounge products manage to accomplish.
The dangling Kickflip arm is the most troubled issue for me. I really wish the hinge held the arm taught against the bottom of my Air. I am only talking about 2mm of space, but it is enough to snag something and rip the device off the laptop, even from just inserting it in a sleeve. It is more of a pet peeve than an actual design flaw.
As I mentioned, everything else is great! The device is well cut and molded. The Bluelounge logo is debossed on the stand in a non-distracting way. The angle is great for typing and the gel adhesion is perfect for being re-used. Even better, the price is right on target at $17.95 for the 13″ version, and $19.95 for the 15″ version, which you cannot always say for Bluelounge accessories. Thankfully, a stand like this does not require MFi certification, which keeps licensing costs to $0, allowing a reasonably priced accessory for the consumer.

If you have full partition backups, you can restore your data or even your operating system when disaster strikes. The main problem is creating the partition backup. Most tools for backing up disks and partitions on Linux feel complicated. Some expect you to use commands in the terminal. Others come with old-school interfaces or use cryptic lingo. Luckily, there is Apart GTK.
Apart GTK is a GUI for partclone that allows you to clone your partitions to compressed image backups. Then, you can quickly and easily recover them from those backups whenever you wish. Let’s see how you can keep your data safe with Apart GTK.Installation
If you’re on Ubuntu or a compatible distribution, Apart GTK is available in the default repositories. You can search and install it from the Software Center or with the following command in a terminal:
When the process completes, you’ll find Apart GTK among the rest of your apps.Backup Your Partition
Find and open the Apart app from your Applications menu. It will prompt you to enter your administrative password. Apart GTK needs full access to your disks and partitions to be able to copy every bit of data on them.
On the left of Apart GTK, you’ll see a list of all the partitions on your system. We had many storage devices on our testing PC, so the list is long. For your PC, you may only find one or two entries.
Note: Apart GTK can’t clone the system partition of the active OS. You have to boot up with a live CD to be able to back up the system partition.
Currently, there is a bug with Apart GTK that prevents the process bar from being updated. Apart from an updating Elapsed time indication, the progress bar looked stuck (though it is running in the backend).
You can confirm that it is indeed running by checking the output file. If it is continuously increasing in size, then you know that it is running normally. Once the backup is completed, Apart GTK will update its window to inform you that the cloning process completed successfully.Restoring your Partition Backup
Once again, it is best not to restore a backup to the active partition. Other than that, restoring your backup with Apart GTK is easy.
When the process completes, you’ll find the contents of your backup in the selected partition. If it was a system partition, like in our case, by rebooting your PC to that OS, it will be back to the point when you initially made your backup.
Apart GTK is probably the friendliest tool for backing up a partition. It works for Windows partitions too, making it one of the best tools for dual-boot environments.

Like the left-over turkey that just won’t disappear from the fridge, talk of a full-blown, Apple-branded HD television set – the mythical iTV – lingers on in the minds of Wall Street seers. The product could carry a price of $1,500 and $2,000 and be introduced in time for Christmas 2013, one analyst forecast Tuesday. The shiny television product launch would highlight a long list of new products for Apple fans of all stripes.
Although Apple’s goal of offering à la carte TV programming is viewed as “unlikely,” some of the features made popular on the iPhone and iPad could be headed to a big-screen TV set spanning between 42 and 55 inches, according to perhaps the most vocal iTV proponent out there, Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray…
Munster, a longtime proponent of a television bearing the Apple logo, told investors that the device will be “the main interface for the living room across multiple devices.”
The analyst’s numerous – and more often than not failed – iTV and other predictions have even earned him a parody account on Twitter.
@reckless expect Apple to move 25M+ iTV units in Q2. Random polling of homeless people standing outside an electronics store window agrees.
— Gene Munster (@genemunster) November 20, 2012
According to Munster’s note relayed by AppleInsider, that rather general prediction was followed by his forecast of Siri and FaceTime being included in the TV. One can only imagine the conversations viewers could get into as the voice-activated search algorithm attempts to interpret some of the phrases shouted at TVs.
However, if consumers thought Apple might do for the television programming business what Apple has done for the music and cell phone industry, think again.
Acknowledging the difficulties Apple has had convincing networks, cable providers and other television content owners to jump on board, the analyst’s client note emphasizes what can be accomplished by updating only the hardware.
It won’t take endless licensing negotiations – which Apple has previously described as a dead-end – to tweak the television set itself.
The company already has experience designing displays with onboard hardware, such as the iMac. Siri and FaceTime are well-tested features. Additionally, by the end of 2013, the economy likely will have improved to the point where consumers may lay out $2,000 for an Apple TV.
Then again, Apple may be more confident that it can navigate the morass of television content licensing. Among the other devices Munster expects Apple will offer next year is an updated Apple TV box with a TV app store.
Would CEO Tim Cook create a TV app store to sell only Disney and third-string videos?

At any rate, the current Apple TV set-top box is moving some surprising numbers so Apple is definitely one of the important players in the space.
Among the more credible potential services we may see out of Apple in 2013 is a Pandora rival.
Munster forecasts a number of other product upgrades which aren’t as iffy as an Apple TV or a Pandora clone. He believes the iPhone 5S – which some folks say enters trial production next month – will hit the market next September with a beefier processor, more memory and a sharper camera.

As for tablets, the iPad mini getting an upgraded Retina display is a no-brainer.
In the software realm, look for the next versions of Mac OS X and iOS in June, Musnter ‘predicts’.
iOS 7 will most likely carry the design impression of designer Jonathan Ive. Also a good bet for Apple’s mobile software: Siri speaks deals-of-the-day and the much-maligned Apple Maps gets a touch-up.
Plus, the MacBook Air will get a Retina treatment in 2013, he writes.
New rule: Anyone who repeats anything Gene Munster says about Apple get blocked and/or banned from the Internet.

The only unknown: when this idea of an Apple TV set will ever die.
Apple has said a TV without content just isn’t enough.
While some consumers would buy an Apple TV just to have an Apple TV, to get the mass adoption seen with the iPhone or iPad will require more than just a well-designed and over-priced hunk of hardware.
What do you think?
What is Apple likely to do in 2013?
Most people tend to share their Netflix accounts with other users. However, if you are worried that someone else has gained access to your Netflix account nefariously, or if you’re just annoyed with people hogging your Netflix and not letting you watch anything on the streaming service, you should consider kicking them out of your Netflix account. After all, it’s frustrating when you come home to watch one of the best new TV shows on Netflix and get an error telling you that too many people are using your account. Well, here’s how to kick someone off Netflix quickly and easily. How to Find Connected Devices and Kick Them Off on Netflix
Log in to Netflix from a web browser. Then, hover over your profile icon at the top-right corner and move to the “Account” settings from the drop-down menu.
The next page will show you a list of all the devices using your Netflix account and the respective profile, date, and time info. If you find anything suspicious, like unknown devices or IP addresses, it’s better to kick out that device using the “Sign Out” button near it.Remove All Devices to Kick Someone Off Netflix
Alternatively, you can also remove all the devices using your Netflix account in case you don’t know who is misusing your account. You can follow the steps we mentioned right below.
Sign in to Netflix using a web browser. Then, go to the “Account” settings by hovering over the profile icon at the top-right corner.
And that’s pretty much it. Netflix will now sign out your account from every device, including the one you use for this process. The next step would be to log in again and change the password as soon as possible, which brings us to our next section.Change Password on Netflix
Sign in to Netflix using a web browser. Then, move to the “Account” settings page by hovering over the profile icon.
Remember to check the box saying, “Sign out of all devices” to ensure all new devices need to enter the new credentials for your Netflix account.
If your account is compromised and someone else has changed your password, you can still get back your account using secondary methods. Please read our detailed guide on how to change Netflix passwords to know more. How to Kick Someone off Netflix Without Changing the Password
Unfortunately no, this is not possible directly. You can try to remove them using the sign out device option which we mentioned above. But, if they know the password, they can log in again and you have to keep repeating the removing action. For this reason, we suggest you change your Netflix password and sign out of all devices. This will permanently kick them out and you can now peacefully log in back again with your new password and share with your family as per your wish.Reasons Why You Need to Kick Someone off Your Netflix Account
You might want to kick people out of your Netflix account for several reasons. For instance, you temporarily logged in through your friend’s TV, and now he is enjoying his time with your account. Or, there might be some malicious activity going on in which your Netflix account is compromised. I have covered identifying and removing a device from your Netflix account in this guide.Security Measures to Keep Your Netflix Account Safe
You might wonder why someone would hack a Netflix account. There is no particular reason to do so, but a secondary motive is to gain email ids and passwords. People usually use the same password for multiple websites and apps since it’s easier to remember. Therefore, if a hacker gains access to your Netflix account details, he might also infiltrate your other online accounts.
I recommend using a unique password for Netflix, which is hard to guess. Even if you share this password, your other accounts should be safe. Moreover, if you find it difficult to remember your passwords, use a password manager. It will save all your account details securely and suggest strong passwords for you as well.
Lastly, if your Netflix account is compromised and you can’t recover it, cancel your Netflix subscription to avoid extra charges. You can stop the payments from your credit/debit card company if accessing your account is not an option.Kick People Hogging Your Netflix Account Easily
So that’s basically how you can kick someone off your Netflix account easily. In case someone has used your profile to stream and messed up your recommendations, you can opt to delete your Netflix history as well and fix your recommended feed. What’s more, if you’re feeling extra petty towards the unwanted streamer, you can delete their profile from your Netflix account as well. Hopefully, Netflix will someday bring a feature to kick out individual devices, but until then, you can use this guide and ensure your Netflix account is being used only by people you want.Frequently Asked Questions
Your site’s content exists for one purpose: to attract, delight, and engage your target audience.
As obvious as that statement sounds, it is surprisingly easy to lose sight of the centrality of your audience when deciding what content to create for your site.
All too typically the content ideation process is limited to things like internal brainstorming, keyword research, things we think are important about our business or service, or pure guesswork.
As useful as those approaches can be, they can all still miss the mark of knowing what your audience actually cares about.
Discovering what your audience cares about that is relevant to your business involves three understandings:
Understanding how people search for things relevant to you.
Understanding why people search for things relevant to you (intent).
Understanding what people want to know about things relevant to you.
Having all three of these in mind is essential to knowing exactly what kinds of content you need to produce for your audience.
Let’s look more deeply into each of those understandings and how you would research them.1. Understanding How People Search
To learn how to do that correctly, see my guide, How to Do Keyword Research for SEO, here on Search Engine Journal.
Good keyword research is essential, but it is only the beginning.
One of the limitations of initial keyword research is it only uncovers the most common terms and phrases used to search for topics important to your business.
In reality, however, people use all sorts of different words to search for something.
In order to understand and cover all the ways people are searching for your products, services, and related topics, you need to know the semantically-related terms for your topics and keywords. What Is Semantic Relationship?
Remember the popular Kevin Bacon meme?
The meme was based on the supposition that everyone in the world is no more than six degrees of separation from actor Kevin Bacon.
Meaning that the chain of real-world relationships that could connect you with Bacon never extends farther than six levels.
Words also have relationships.
The semantic relationship between any two words or phrases is evaluated by their degree of separation in common usage.
In other words, the more frequently people use the words in conjunction with each other, in talking about the same or similar things, the closer their semantic relationship.
By analyzing huge samplings of human language (such as queries entered into a search engine) we can determine the “degree of separation” between terms and phrases.
The closer they are to each other, the stronger the semantic relationship, and the higher their priority for consideration in your content plans.Using Semantic Relationships
Above is a graph of the closest semantic nodes for “children’s shoes” in Google searches.
We can see that people who are interested in children’s shoes may also be interested in more specific categories such as “boots” and then even more specifically, things like “children’s boot sizes” or “children’s cowboy boots.”
Semantic relationship research is so important to covering the universe of closely-related topics around your main topics that you should make sure whatever keyword research tools you investigate include some kind of semantic search capability.
However, sometimes important semantic relationships are even closer than one degree of separation.
An example of this is the term “conjunctivitis.”
Though that is the technically correct term for a certain eye condition, the vast majority of regular searchers will search for its colloquial equivalent, “pink eye.”
Understanding and researching semantic relationships can help you better cover your important topics with content geared to the way real people actually search.2. Understanding Why People Search
The second important understanding for better SEO content creation centers around the search intent of users.
Search intent has to do with what people actually want to accomplish with their search.
Most of the time people aren’t searching randomly; they have some purpose, some goal they are trying to accomplish.
There are different ways to categorize search intent, but the four most common are:
Informational: The user wants to fill in a knowledge gap about the topic.
Examples: “Who was Abraham Lincoln?”, “How to repair a zipper.”
Navigational: The user is trying to find a specific source or site.
Examples: “facebook,” “Nordstrom,” “youtube.”
Transactional: The user wants to purchase something.
Examples: “hotels in Minneapolis,” “DSLR cameras cheap.”
Local: The user is looking for something in their local area.
Examples: “Asian fusion restaurants nearby,” “shipping services near me.”
In recent years Google has been getting better at sniffing out the search intent of its users.
We know this because when a new search term appears that seems ambiguous at first, we’ll often see Google at first present results on page one that are for various intents.
So it follows that it’s not enough to create content for how searchers are searching for your topics (i.e., the words they are using), but also for why they are searching.
In other words, your content has a better chance of ranking if it matches well with the intent search engines think most people have when using your keywords. How to Discover Search Intent
Because Google has become increasingly adept at sniffing out the most common search intent for a given query, one of the best ways to discover that intent is to enter your keyword in Google and look at the SERP.
Does it have SERP features like Featured Snippets and People Also Ask?
Do the top organic web results seem to be answering a question or giving basic facts about the topic?
Then the search intent is probably informational.
Then the search intent is probably transactional.
Does it have map results, local listings, or are the top organic web results primarily businesses or entities near you?
Then the search intent is probably local.
There is also a limited selection of tools that will supply search intent for keywords, usually based on machine-learning analysis of search results and sometimes even the content they link to.How to Use Search Intent
Let’s say your keyword is “women’s clothing.”
Enter that in Google and look at the first page of results.
And then we come to the organic web results, which are all ecommerce sites of major brands.
Admittedly there is some mixture of intent here, as Google included a local map results box, but the majority of the page is taken up by purely transactional results.
Therefore, if you were targeting the keyword “women’s clothing,” you’d want to make sure you had a well-optimized landing page with women’s clothing for sale.
Now search for “how to buy women’s clothing” and see how the first page of Google changes.
Now we see only one ad and a smaller products carousel, followed by a Quora page answering the question “how to buy women’s clothing” and a People Also Ask box.
The primary search intent for this query seems to be informational.
So you’d want to have content that answers the question, such as a guide to selecting women’s clothing.3. Understanding What People Want to Know
As important as it is to know what people enter when they search for things relevant to your business and what their intent is, it is equally important to have a handle on the actual information that will be useful to them.
In other words, what do they really need to know?
What content will scratch the itch and satisfy them in ways that leave them favorably inclined toward your brand?
Beyond that, it’s also important to know (and cover) related things people want to know.
People who enter one question in search often really have a list of related questions they also want to know about.Power of People Also Ask
We can be thankful that Google actually does a lot of that research for us and puts it right into the SERPs for free!
I’m talking about the People Also Ask feature that shows for so many informational and transactional searches these days.
People Also Ask is semantic search data on steroids, giving you actual queries people commonly make related closely to your topic.
If you build content using suggestions from People Also Ask you not only can rank for a broader range of queries, you also likely improve Google’s impression of your site as an authority on the topic.Reaping From Ranking Content
Examine the top-ranking content.
What does it cover, what elements does it have, what questions does it answer that your content does not cover?
A large part of the reason that content is ranking is because Google deems it to be the most thorough and useful answer to the query.
So you want to make sure your content covers all the same bases, and then goes even further to be more worthy than the ranking content.Topping Off from Top Stories
While it won’t show up for every query, Google’s Top Stories feature can also be a source of straight-from-the-SERPs information on what matters to your target audience.
Top Stories draws from publishers and news sources to provide searchers with the most current information on a topic.
Taking the time to read some of that content, and perhaps revisit it from time to time for updates, can help you add freshness to some of your content that lets Google know you also are up-t0-date.How, Why & What: Bringing It All Together
The type of content with the best chance of connecting with your audience (and thereby being attractive to search engines) incorporates research from all three of these aspects:
How people search (the words they use).
Why people search (what their intent is).
What people want to know (the specific content that will satisfy them).
If you are able to answer all three of these aspects for your most important topics, you will be well on your way to creating content that will not only get you better search rankings, but earn you the attention you crave from your audiences.

Looking to hook up another screen to your computer? You don’t have to spend money on a dedicated external monitor if you have a spare laptop. Just use Miracast or AirPlay to set it up as your second monitor.
Using a second or external monitor is the best way to increase viewing space and productivity. This can be handy in situations such as when working from home and needing additional screen real estate for documents and applications.

If you use a Windows or macOS device and there’s a laptop around, you can use Miracast or AirPlay to use it as a second or external display. The best thing about the whole setup is that it’s quick, easy, and involves zero adapters, ports, or cables.Windows: Use a Laptop as a Second or External Monitor With Miracast
Almost all modern Microsoft Windows desktop computers and laptops come with built-in Miracast functionality. It’s a wireless display standard that can send video signals from one device to another, and you can use it to extend or duplicate a laptop display over Wi-Fi easily.
However, there is a couple of requirements to use Miracast:
Both Windows devices need to be on the same wireless network.
Both Windows devices must run the latest versions of the Windows 10 or 11 operating system, including up-to-date graphics card drivers.
If that’s not an issue, work through the instructions below to use a desktop PC or laptop in a dual-monitor setup with another laptop via Miracast.Set Up Laptop to Work as a Second or External Monitor
