2. Blurry field of view
Objects located a few feet away appear blurry for many players.
Everything looks fine up front, but when I look outwards into trees, mountains or other people who aren’t right next to me everything looks blurry. Is there something I can do to fix this?
If you’re experiencing the same issue, try turning TSAA off and make sure dynamic resolution is turned off as well in the VR Performance options. Other players also suggested that deleting Skyrim preferences in documents could also fix this problem.

3. PC restarts by itself
Many players who own pretty good computers complained about random reboots.
I have a pretty decent pc and a 1070 card but with skyrim if i MAX supersampling in game my pc reboots randomly. do you think i just need a new power supply? im not really sure what its runnning on but have never had crashes before until skyrim…
4. Keyboard doesn’t work
Using Rift controllers, cant get the in-game keyboard to accept anything, including backspaces to remove the default name “prisoner”. Any ideas?
This is actually a known issue. As Bethesda explains, keyboard functionality is not supported although it does work for certain inputs. The quickest way to access all the keyboards features is to use a SteamVR keyboard.
5. Audio issues
Even though I have everything on max(both ingame and on SteamVR) sound ingame is very quiet. Anyone else has the same problem?
If audio is unavailable or just some audio fails to trigger, close the game. Then launch it again but this time make sure to plug in a sound device. It appears this is an issue prevalent for Windows Mixed Reality, so audio issues should not be present on other VR platforms.
Also, make sure that the Mixed Reality Portal is running before launching the game otherwise audio output won’t be available.
6. The Steam home menu randomly pop-ups
Many players reported that the Steam menu opens as soon as they open the Journal menu or the wait menu. Fortunately, you can quickly fix this problem by disabling Steam Overlay.
Well, these are the most frequent bugs affecting the game. Apart from those random PC restarts, there are no other severe issues affecting this title.

Exploring the World of Augmented and Virtual Reality BU’s AR/VR club members immerse themselves in new technologies

For many people, the phrase “virtual reality” is likely to conjure up scenes from movies like The Matrix and Ready Player One. The concept of immersing yourself in a digital world where you can interact with computer-generated characters sometimes seems like the stuff of science fiction or the distant future.
In fact, virtual reality (VR) and its close cousin “augmented reality” (AR) are rapidly emerging technologies—and they’re more prevalent than you might realize. From entertainment and gaming to science and medicine, AR and VR are increasingly integrated into our everyday lives.
What exactly are augmented reality and virtual reality, and how do they differ? Augmented reality enhances experience by overlaying digital images, graphics, or sensations onto the real world. If you’ve used Snapchat lenses or played the game Pokemon Go, chances are you’re familiar with it. In general, all you need to experience augmented reality is a mobile device, like a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
“We decided that our mission would be to foster an enthusiastic community,” Zhang says, “and also make sure that Boston University is a recognized name in the greater Boston area AR/VR community.”
The club is open to all majors and welcomes from novices to seasoned AR/VR practitioners. Sophomore Jared Yellen (CAS), this year’s president, says the club “tries to foster everyone who has an interest in augmented reality and virtual reality, and help them either further their attempts to create things in AR/VR or just learn more about what’s going on in the industry and the world.”
A common misconception is that AR/VR is mostly for computer programmers. But AR and VR projects involve skills from a variety of disciplines, such as graphics, sound design, and much more. Junior Caolan Disini (CAS), for example, studies computer science, but is minoring in art, and he says he incorporates 3-D modeling in art classes with his VR projects.
The club frequently brings in outside speakers for programming and design workshops. This semester they’ve held workshops on Unity and Simmetri, programming applications to create AR/VR experiences. “One of the biggest difficulties with AR/VR at BU is there are no classes that teach how to create things in AR/VR,” Yellen says, “so we try to fill the gap.”
At a recent meeting, MIT Open Documentary Lab research fellow Charity Everett gave a talk about using VR and 360-degree storytelling to evoke more emotional responses. Members suggest topics for guest speakers and workshops: “Whatever people have interest in is what we want to do,” Yellen says. A VR game tournament is in the works for sometime in the coming weeks.
Yellen has big plans for the club: he hopes to expand meetings to at least two a week—one focused on learning how to create things and the other on what you can do with the technology.
“We’d like to make it so that it’s just a technology that anyone can be interested in and anyone can be involved in,” he says.

Meet Intel 7th Gen Core, the 4K, VR-ready “Kaby Lake” processors
If we’re post-PC, nobody told Intel: the chip company has higher hopes than ever for the computer – albeit in a range of form-factors – running its new 7th Gen “Kaby Lake” Core processors, officially announced today. With headline 7th Gen vs 6th Gen improvements including swifter, less power-intensive media playback and processing, the ability to do serious gaming on the move, and broader support for next-generation interconnects like Thunderbolt and USB-C plus security features like Windows Hello, Intel sees Kaby Lake as more than just a speed bump.
“At its core the PC is the consummate Darwinian machine,” Navin Shenoy, general manager of the client computing group at Intel, argues. “It’s constantly adapting to the changes around us.”
Just as we’re not entirely sure about the path of animal evolution, mind, neither is the future of the PC quite clear. Intel is betting on its vision of a 4K-obsessed, frequently gaming-on-the-go future, and as with previous chip launches it’s the mobile version of that which is getting fresh silicon first.
Mobile processors spanning the 4.5W to 15W range and targeting 2-in-1s and ultrathin notebooks for both consumers and businesses will arrive first; in fact, the chips are in mass production now, Intel says, and will be made available to manufacturing partners in September.
There are already “hundreds” of designs based on Kaby Lake expected to launch in Q4 2024, according to Chris Walker, general manage row mobile client platforms at Intel.
Come January 2023, meanwhile, there’ll be performance gaming and VR mobile chips, in addition to desktop processors for both consumer and enterprise use, including models supporting vPro. That should open the door for another 350 expected designs to come to market, Intel predicts, across multiple form factors.
On paper, you might question exactly what has changed. Like the 6th Gen chips they’re built on 14nm processes, and indeed the 7th Generation uses the same Skylake architecture, albeit “with enhancements,” Intel says.
It’s those enhancements which will make the difference. There’ll only be a roughly 300-400 MHz clock speed increase, and battery life for mobile products based on the 7th Gen processors will be roughly the same, but Intel claims the overall system is far more efficient.
In fact, there’s a double-digit performance gain in mobile compared to last year, going by Intel’s benchmarks. Year on year, comparing the 6th Gen i7-6500U to the 7th Gen i7-7500U, the company’s tests show a 12-percent improvement in productivity apps and 19-percent in everyday tasks such as browsing, photo editing, and email. That’s down to things like improved interconnect performance, and a claimed 12-percent improvement in efficiency at the transistor level.
Year on year upgraders aren’t where Intel sees the greatest number of customers coming from, however. As before, it’s pulling out research suggesting that most people who’ll be considering a 7th Gen based machine will in fact be upgrading from a five year old PC
There, unsurprisingly, the gains are even more significant. Compared to that five year old PC, a new model with a comparable tier chip should be 1.7x faster at those work tasks, and an incredible 8.6x faster at creating, editing, and sharing 4K UHD and 360 videos.
Looking at a new Core i5-7200U based laptop versus a Core i5-2467M from half a decade ago, the 7th Gen model is 15x faster at creating 4K video highlights. In fact, Intel says, the new chips can do it in nearly real time – figure on around 37 seconds for a 30 second clip, software depending – while converting an hour-long 4K video takes approximately twelve minutes in contrast to 85+ minutes on the old system.
It’s partly down to the new media engine, which Intel built on the Gen9 graphics architecture. There’s a dedicated media engine for video decoding, designed both for power efficiency and supporting parallel engines for greater performance throughput. Everyday users should see the impact in 10-bit HEVC and VP9 video, not to mention power consumption during playback; indeed, Intel predicts around 75-percent better battery life when playing VP9 footage compared to the old chips.
Even how turbo state use is managed will get smarter. Intel will use a broader range of sensor input – including from the accelerometer and thermometers – to figure out the ambient thermal temperature; if you still have headroom for comfortable, safe use, you’ll be able to stay in the turbo state for longer.
There’ll be branding changes, too. For a start, Intel will be labeling the chip badges with “7th Gen”, and there’ll no longer be Core m7 or m5 models: instead, they’ll just be known as Core i5 or Core i7, because Intel argues they don’t sacrifice performance. Initially, the range will include Core m3, Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 chips.
Meanwhile, Intel expects to see twice the number of designs as before offering Thunderbolt connectivity – 120+ at initial count – and 100+ with Windows Hello support. 50+ of the systems on the roadmap will have 4K UHD displays, and 25+ will support pen input.
Figure on less of a hit in your bag, too, with convertibles as thin as 10mm and clamshells under 10mm. Intel even teased fanless detachables under 7mm thick, and we’ll start to see the first models using Kaby Lake from September and ramping up toward the 2024 holidays.
We’re used to hearing about how humans have changed the way landscapes burn, but in recent years biologists and ecologists have increasingly come to realize how much influence animals have on blazes. In California, for instance, cities are now investing in goat herds to mow down hillsides covered in weedy, dry vegetation that serves as tinder during the state’s fire season.
But the relationships between animals and fire are far more varied and complex than just herbivores cutting down on wildfire fuel, a new review in Trends in Ecology & Evolution reveals. Grazers don’t always reduce wildfires, and large animals aren’t the only organisms modifying fuels—small mammals, birds, and insects also play important roles. “I think when it comes to thinking about what animals might influence fire, there’s been an emphasis on large animals,” says Claire Foster, an author of the review and a terrestrial ecologist at Australian National University. “We found a huge variety of animals that can influence fire.”
Thus far, the way large grazers affect the amount of fuel (flammable plant material) has been the main focus for fire ecologists studying animals. But there are a lot of other factors beyond simply the volume of fuel in a landscape that influence the size and intensity of a fire. It also matters how that fuel is distributed, what plants it consists of, and how compact it is. Foster says that in her research she’d already seen how wallabies can change the vegetation structure of their habitat, which could affect fire spread. She was curious what other interactions we were missing by only looking at big herbivores. “I decided to take a global approach,” she says. “My colleagues and I got together and tried to find all the examples we could.”
Their findings reveal just how much influence even tiny creatures can have on an ecosystem, and could help us understand fiery landscapes much better.Grazers can go both ways
In grasslands, large grazers like cows, rhinos, and buffalos eat lots of so-called “fine fuels,” highly flammable plants (like grass) that spread fires, which can reduce the size of fires and the area burnt. In dry landscapes, these animals can play an important role in managing wildfire. But that interaction doesn’t work the same in all ecosystems.
In some places, the plants most tasty to grazers are also the least flammable, and the herbivores’ selective appetite can leave behind the hottest-burning vegetation. In mixed deciduous-conifer forests in the United States, studies have found that cattle prefer eating deciduous plant seedlings—such as aspen, cottonwood, and willow—and leave behind conifers. Those young pine and fir trees can then act as “ladder fuels” during a wildfire, creating a vertical bridge from the forest floor to canopies, which can start crown fires.
In northern Patagonia, researchers observed that when cattle and invasive European hares graze a subalpine forest after a fire, they prevent tree seedlings from taking root. In turn, the area shifts to a shrub-dominated ecosystem—one that’s more flammable.Don’t forget about the bugs
“One of the things I really started to appreciate in this review was insects and other invertebrates,” says Foster. “There are means by which they could have an important effect [on fire].” Researchers already knew about bark beetles in the American West, whose attacks can weaken and kill trees, reducing their moisture content and thus making them readily ignite in a fire.
But there are some more obscure things bugs do. When lace bugs eat bur oak leaves, their chemical composition changes. Leaf litter from trees attacked by lace bugs is higher in lignin, a type of fiber that decomposes very slowly. One study found that the leaves decompose 25 percent slower if the tree was attacked by the bugs. This also means more leaves can build up on the ground, creating a thick litter layer that’s excellent fuel for fires.
The little rollie pollies and other invertebrates living in leaf litter also influence fire, Foster points out her review. Those bugs chow down on dead leaves and twigs, breaking them into smaller pieces and making it easier for microbes to feast. In recent studies of the eucalyptus forest in Australia, decomposition of leaf litter slowed down by over a third when researchers excluded invertebrates.It’s not just the amount of fuel that matters
Small animals do their part, too. The Malleefowl bird in Australia uses its feet to rake up a big pile of leaves and then lays its eggs in the pile (the composting leaves then create heat and keeps the eggs warm!). This activity removes some of the litter layer around the trees in its woodland habitat. So, while the birds don’t necessarily change the total amount of fuel, they make it more patchy across the landscape. Foster says that this kind of fuel spotiness can influence burn rates. Without a continuous blanket of dead leaves to feed on, a fire might slow down when it hits the “raked” parts of the landscape.Learning more about animal-fire relationships
Moving forward, Foster says we need to pay more attention to the smaller animals that are helping shape their environment and how it burns. “Insects are ubiquitous, but we know very little about their role,” she says. “I think that’s something that should be looked at further.”
Further research into some of these finer-scale interactions can help us better understand wildfires. Finding out where animals are creating patchiness in fuels in their ecosystem could help with modeling how fires behave, for example. “But the fire models that we have don’t necessarily let us simulate how those patches might affect the fire in the landscape,” says Foster. “I think it could be really useful to work with firefighters to create some models, or adapt some of the existing models, so that we can look at these things at finer scales.”
And there’s still a lot more to know about animal-fire interactions. “My take home message is there’s potentially some really ecologically or management-useful interactions happening that we don’t yet know about,” Foster says. “It could be fruitful to explore some of those.”

WhatsApp Web doesn’t have a great reputation for stability, and while its major recent updates have brought some welcome improvements they have also made the browser version of WhatsApp a bit unreliable.
The rest of this tips will focus on the mobile versions of WhatsApp, but note that some of the fixes may apply to WhatsApp Web too, so don’t stop reading!4. Restart Phone
The first step you should always perform when you are troubleshooting an app or device is to restart it. Likewise, with the WhatsApp images and videos not downloading issue, restart your Android phone or iPhone. Sometimes just restarting the phone will fix the media not downloading issue on WhatsApp.5. Check WhatsApp Server for Issues
At times, the problem could be with WhatsApp itself. It has happened several times where people are unable to send messages, download images, and similar. To verify whether WhatsApp is down or not, you can use third-party tools like Outage.Report or DownDetector. Open one of the websites, and the tool will tell you whether WhatsApp servers are working properly or not.
Having the correct date and time on your phone is important for WhatsApp to sync to its servers, otherwise you won’t be able to download images or videos, as mentioned on the official WhatsApp support page.7. Audit Internet Problems
Many times, users are unable to download media files on WhatsApp due to an issue with their Internet connection. These troubleshooting tips should help with the issue:
If you are using WhatsApp on Wi-Fi, start by restarting your router.
Next, try opening a website on your phone. If the website doesn’t load or images do not load properly, your Wi-Fi connection may be down.
You can also try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data to identify whether the Internet connection is causing the issue.
Make sure you have enough data balance.
Try turning Airplane mode on and off on your device for a while.
For Wi-Fi networks, try to forget the Wi-Fi, then connect to it again.
If possible, try to connect to a different Wi-Fi connection or router.
You can also try changing the DNS server for your router. If you are on Android, find out how to use Google DNS or OpenDNS.
Disable the metered Wi-Fi connection on Android.

If there are problems with WhatsApp not automatically downloading images and videos on your phone, you should take a look at the media auto-download settings in WhatsApp.12. Turn Off Data Saver Modes
Both Android and iPhone come with data-saving modes. If media isn’t auto-downloading on your phone, try disabling these modes.13. Check Available Storage
Your phone should have sufficient storage to be able to download media files from WhatsApp. If the phone doesn’t have enough storage, files won’t be able to download.14. Unmount SD Card

If you are getting the “Ask XYZ to resend the file” error while downloading old media files from WhatsApp, that’s what you will need to do. The person could have cleared the chat, leaving you unable to download the files. Request that the sender resend the file.18. Clear WhatsApp Cache (Android)
Try clearing the cache for WhatsApp on your Android phone. Doing so will not delete your chats or any associated media.
Restart the phone after clearing the cache. Do not tap on “Clear data” (or Clear data), as it will delete your WhatsApp chats.19. Turn Off Ad Blocker
If you are using adblocker apps on your phone, try turning them off for a while to see if they are conflicting with WhatsApp media.
Many times, updating WhatsApp also helps to fix the issue of images and videos not downloading.
Go to the Play Store (Android) and App Store (iPhone) and search for WhatsApp. Tap on the “Update” button if available. Restart the phone. Don’t worry, as updating WhatsApp will not delete your chats.21. Reinstall WhatsApp
If the issue persists, uninstall WhatsApp from your phone and install it again. However, make sure to back up the data first using the native option. You can back up to Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iPhone. That way you will not lose your chats and files.22. Rename WhatsApp Folder (Android)
On Android, apart from uninstalling WhatsApp, you should also try renaming the existing WhatsApp folder. This is done so that WhatsApp creates a new folder when you install it again. However, this is a nuclear option so please make sure that you back up your WhatsApp data first. Once that is done, uninstall WhatsApp.
Then install WhatsApp again and restore your data from back up. If something goes wrong, you will find your old WhatsApp database and files in the renamed folder.23. Reset Network Settings
You should try resetting the network settings on your Android phone or iPhone. Doing so will delete all the saved networks (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc.) and connected devices. You will need to add and pair them again. However, it can solve issues like images and videos not downloading on WhatsApp.24. Reset App Preferences
Similar to resetting network settings, you should try to reset all settings on your phone. Doing so will not delete your personal data. However, all settings on your phone will be reset. So if a setting is responsible for WhatsApp images and videos not downloading, resetting the settings should fix it.
