Will There Be An Lg C3 This Year?

Last Updated on January 5, 2023

It’s official! Our experts at PC Guide can confirm that we will see the release of the new LG C3 TV this year. Set to join the rest of the LG C-series clan, the new LG C3 TV, unsurprisingly, will be decked out with a fair few improvements compared to its predecessor the LG C2.

The LG C3 OLED TV is one of the most anticipated TVs of 2023. It has the potential to be the best TV of the year. Those lucky few who have already had a hands-on experience with the TV have claimed improvements to its brightness.

But, before we speak too soon, some have already suggested that this new generation LG C-series TV doesn’t offer enough updates to make an upgrade from the LG C2 worth it. Let’s look into the new LG C3 TV in further detail. Keep on reading.

It is rumored that the LG C3 OLED TV will be released in Q1 of this year. Some have even suggested that we will see it hit the shelves in April 2023. Bear in mind these are only rumors and we are yet to hear directly from LG on when these TVs will become available.

When it comes to price, we again can only speculate. Back in the day, the LG C2 OLED TVs were launched at a price between $5,499 to $1,399 for the 83″ and 42″ TVs, respectively. Since their release, these TVs have dropped in price even on the LG site. So it would be no surprise to us if the new LG C3s are set to launch at this similar price point too.

LG C3 TV Features and Performance

Expect to see new refinements such as a new Alpha A9 Gen 6 processor. The new algorithm within this processor will increase the perceived brightness of the LG C3 TV. A feature that many testers have already raved about at the launch event.

The technology works by recognizing which part of an image is the focal point and which part is the background. The algorithm can then cleverly increase the brightness on the main part of the image making the entire image seem brighter – pretty amazing really.

Another new feature to be introduced on LG’s new OLED TVs is the upgraded WebOS 23 smart feature. According to those who had the opportunity to try it, they claim there are no major upgrades to the system. However, there are a fair few new features which may interest you.

One of the new smart features involves AI picture quality adjustment. The Personalized Picture Wizard will ask you a series of questions whilst you look at various images of differing brightness, saturation, and contrast. The AI will then analyze your choices, creating the perfect picture settings to maximize your comfort.

LG C3 TV Design

The LG C3 OLED TV features a similar design to the LG C2. It will feature a slim shape, built from a lightweight composite fiber. Thanks to its weight, one person would definitely be able to set up this device alone.

Wondering what input and outputs will be on this TV? Well, according to LG the new LG C3 will have four ALLM HDMI 2.1 ports. This is the same as the LG C2 so there is no upgrade here. Nonetheless, it still makes these LG TVs great for gaming.

In terms of screen size, we definitely expect to see a 55″ and 65″ model as they were present at the LG launch event. Other sizes that could be available are 77″, 83″, and 48″.

What is the difference between the LG C series and G series?

A key difference between both models is that the LG C-series is at a more affordable price point compared to the LG G-series. For example, the LG C1 55″ TV is set at $1,499. Whereas the LG G1 55″ is priced at $1,999.

Summary

So the new LG C3 OLED TV is coming out this year. Will you be making a purchase? Here at PC Guide, we are looking forward to this product hitting the market and seeing how it compares to the previous model, the LG C2.

The Big Problem With Big

Thankfully, three years on, most manufacturers seem to have gotten over the hurdle of foldable smartphone durability. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, for example, survived an impressive amount of damage in JerryRigEverything’s durability test including forcefully bending the phone backwards and putting dust and debris directly onto the display and inside the intricate hinge system. Naturally, you’re not going to do this intentionally to your own phone but it’s nice to know that it’s more robust than it looks.

Samsung’s foldables are some of the few to have IPX8 water resistance, allowing you to text in the pouring rain without a worry in the world (aside from getting wet, that is!).

It’s not just Samsung either. The foldable phone market has come along leaps and bounds over the past few years, with excellent models including the Huawei Mate X2, Xiaomi’s China-only Mix Fold 2 and the Oppo Find N, which I had the pleasure of using earlier this year.

These devices still aren’t perfect – you can see the crease along the hinge in most foldable screens – but the hardware is now at a level where many buyers will be comfortable investing in a foldable smartphone – particularly the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4.

When I first used the Oppo Find N back in April, I noticed that a few of my favourite apps didn’t display properly on the 7.1in main display. That’s almost certainly down to the boxy 8.4:9 aspect ratio, which most developers won’t have optimised their apps for. After all, how many devices have a screen of this shape? Not many.

Oppo Find N

Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry

That’s fine, I thought, considering the Oppo Find N hasn’t officially launched in the West and, therefore, developers won’t be in a rush to develop for the form factor.

Samsung, on the other hand, has been selling these phones in the West for the past few years, and the company has specifically worked with developers to add support for the unusual form factor. Essentially, if there’s any foldable manufacturer that could provide a top-tier foldable experience, I assumed it would be Samsung.

But, dear reader, I was wrong.

To Samsung’s credit, it does have a growing list of apps that make good use of the Fold 4’s large display including the likes of Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, Microsoft Office, YouTube and Google Meet. And they work well. The issue is that, outside of that relatively small list of apps, others simply do not work on this boxy aspect ratio.

Most apps run well but since they’re not optimised for the aspect ratio they don’t offer the big-screen experience you might expect. Instead, just as with so many Android tablets, apps stick to a user interface that’s designed for the tall, slim aspect ratio that the vast majority of phones now have.

However, there are a few apps that simply don’t work – including some of the most popular ones.

For example, take Instagram. The app’s inability to adapt to the boxy aspect ratio of the Find N and Fold 4 meant as much as 2/3 of video content was cropped from view – and that’s hardly the premium experience buyers are going to expect after shelling out the big bucks for a folding phone.

Dominic Preston / Foundry

It was a similar story with TikTok on the Find N, but Samsung worked with the developer so the app works properly with its foldable phone.

The bottom line is that app developers aren’t adding support for these devices fast enough.

In fact, Oppo’s president of overseas sales and services, Billy Zhang, cited a lack of app support as one of the main reasons we’re yet to see an Oppo foldable outside of China (though that could be changing soon).

It seems we’re still in a catch-22 situation in the foldable market: developers are waiting for more manufacturers to produce foldables before investing time and money into developing specifically for the form factor, while manufacturers are waiting for app support before going all-in on the foldable form factor. Who’s going to give in first?

It’s not hard to see where the developers are coming from either; while Samsung claims there were 10 million foldables sold across the industry in 2023, that’s a drop in the ocean of the predicted 1.38 billion overall smartphone sales in the same year.

I should probably clarify at this point that this problem doesn’t really apply to clamshell-style foldable smartphones like the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Huawei P50 Pocket. The fact that these models fold out to something resembling a traditional candy-bar smartphone means developers don’t need to optimise apps for a new aspect ratio.

Clamshells, then, could be the best option for manufacturers to introduce more foldable smartphones in the near future, rather than working on the other style of foldable that requires considerably more work from developers. Could we see the big-screen foldable fade out in favour of clamshell-type phones in the next few years, or can the combined might of Xiaomi, Oppo, Samsung and co. bring big-screen foldable support to most apps? We’ll have to wait and see.

Hindsight Not Always 20/20 With Problem Management

How often have you reviewed an incident and asked, ”How could they fail

to see the cause of the error before it became such a huge problem?”

Certainly there are benefits to reviewing a negative event, or series of

events, and determining how to prevent them. During the review process,

what must be avoided is allowing knowledge of the outcome to cloud your

judgment. The affect on perception due to the knowledge of the

subsequent outcome is known as ”hindsight bias” and it can definitely

affect the quality of the review process in a negative manner.

People involved with problem management must avoid this phenomenon and

ask probing questions that dig deeper into the causal elements of the

incident, gaining better insight.

Essentially, once you know the outcome of a chain of events, you tend to

view all actions performed and decisions made through the lens of the

final outcome.

For example, a series of warning alarms go off in a sequence never

before considered. Shortly after, the system begins to fail and the

operator makes matters worse by making a decision on the spot with very

limited information and time. In going back over the accident, it is

very clear to the reviewer that the chaotic warnings were indicating

that a key subsystem was failing because the incident report lists the

failure in detail.

In hindsight, it’s obvious. But in the heat of battle, it may have been

anything but obvious for a variety of reasons.

Organizations must take care not to rush to judgment prematurely. Far

too often these days, groups are deploying systems with little testing,

little to no documentation, and virtually no training. And in this day

of compressed time and high-speed systems, once the operators do

encounter an issue, the issues often compound and mushroom out of

control at amazing speeds.

How can any operator, or group of operators, be expected to effectively

respond without proper training and support mechanisms?

In short, they can’t.

Problem Management

From ITIL, we know that Problem Management essentially involves focusing

on an incident, or series of incidents, in order to identify underlying

causal factors — ”problems” — to prevent repetition. In order to

identify the root causes accurately, problem managers and problem review

boards must beware of allowing hindsight bias to cloud the problem

review process, allowing for oversimplification and/or the

personalization of causality.

In other words, a board must not look at an accident and literally say,

”The sequence is so simple! How could they miss it? It must be operator

error.”

When complex systems are involved, there are often far more contributing

factors than one might initially think.

Focus on the Processes

First and foremost, instead of personalizing the causality and blaming

the operators, reviewers must recognize that there very often are levels

of complexity beyond what is superficially visible. Furthermore, they

need to take a step back and look at what key control points and

processes are lacking.

For example, without exception, as the level of complexity increases in

a system, the value of an effective change management process increases.

Yet, this incredibly valuable process and the associated controls are

all too often overlooked or even discounted as too bureaucratic.

Returning to the point, a great many problems are rooted in process

failures that are exacerbated by the human element being involved.

How To Fix “Problem With Mergelist” Issue In Ubuntu

When you are running an update in Ubuntu, there are plenty of problems that could possibly occur. One of them is the “Problem with MergeList… The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.“. There can be causes for this, and one of them is probably due to too many repositories in your system.

The fix for this is very simple. Simply run the following commands in the terminal:

sudo

rm

/

var

/

lib

/

apt

/

lists

/*

-vf

sudo

apt-get update

What the above commands did is to remove all the package lists in your system and re-fetch them with the system update command.

Note: Make sure all other package managers are closed before you run the above commands, or else it won’t work.
