Western Digital My Book World Edition Ii Nas Gets Capacity Boost, Reviewed

Western Digital My Book World Edition II NAS gets capacity boost, reviewed

Western Digital have updated their My Book World Edition II NAS, boosting the dual-drive device to a total of 4TB.  Two models will be available – 2TB and 4TB -each offering either RAID 0 or 1 setup for a choice of mirroring or striping.

Ports include gigabit ethernet and a USB 2.0 port, which can be used to add extra capacity to the My Book.  There’s also a capacity gage on the front of the drive, which indicates how much storage space is left.  The DLNA-certified NAS can also stream content to PCs, Macs or games consoles.

DesktopReview have been taking a look at the My Book World Edition II, in their case the 2TB model, and while it’s not the cheapest of backup and network storage solutions, they found it to be a stable and stylish choice.  It proved quick to set up, and the web sharing feature worked well (albeit sluggishly), and home users will appreciate the low power demands.

MSRP for the My Book World Edition II dual-drive storage system with 4 TB is $699.99 and 2 TB is $399.99.

Press Release:

WD’S NEW DUAL-DRIVE MY BOOK® WORLD EDITION™ II NETWORK STORAGE SYSTEM ADDS EXTRA LEVEL OF PROTECTION FOR A FAMILY’S VALUABLE DATA

Offers an Easy, Double-Safe Way to Backup Computers and Share Media Throughout the Home

LAKE FOREST, Calif. – June 24, 2009 – WD® (NYSE: WDC), the world’s leader in external storage solutions, today introduced its newly redesigned My Book® World Edition™ II dual- drive network storage system in capacities of up to 4 TB. With the double protection of two Mirrored (RAID 1) drives and continuous backup software, the My Book World Edition II network storage system provides an extra-safe place for users to back up and store the data and digital media from all the computers on their network in one central location. Available now at select retailers and the WD online store, the new dual-drive systems join the recently introduced (Feb. 2009) My Book World Edition and are compatible with PC and Mac® computers.

According to a July 2008 report by research firm Parks Associates, the number of households worldwide with data networks will grow from around 170 million in 2008 to 240 million by year-end 2012. The firm also reports that the average broadband household will see its digital media storage needs grow to nearly 900 GB by year-end 2012. In addition, consumers indicate that the most important feature for a network-attached storage (NAS) device is the amount of available storage. With its massive 4 TB capacity, the My Book World Edition II network storage system will serve this rapidly growing need for home data storage.

The My Book World Edition II network storage system uses RAID 1 (Mirrored1) technology to automatically and continuously maintain a second copy of user’s data. If one drive in the two-drive system ever fails, the system continues to run and the data is safe. In addition, the new My Book World Edition II network hard drive includes software that simplifies the task of setting up automatic and continuous data backup for all the PCs in the home. The My Book World Edition II storage systems ship in Mirrored mode and use half the capacity for file redundancy.

With its media server capabilities and fast transfer speeds, this high-capacity system makes it simple to build a centralized digital media library that everyone can easily share. Music, photos and videos can be streamed directly from the My Book World Edition II storage system to any PC, Mac or connected DLNA® media player (such as TVs, Microsoft® Xbox 360 and Sony® PlayStation®3 game consoles or wireless digital pictures frames) using the integrated UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) media server and iTunes® Music server software. Users can also securely access their files from anywhere in the world through the Internet using the free MioNet® remote access service included with every My Book World Edition II storage system.

“Families have more and more digital media like movies, photos and music to store, share and protect. Having two drives inside the My Book World Edition II network storage system, instantaneously and automatically duplicating data, offers consumers the peace of mind of double safe, real-time protection of their valuable content,” said Dale Pistilli, vice president of marketing for WD’s branded products group. “Families can relax knowing their valuable media is backed up while enjoying the ability to stream their content to a plethora of different devices from PCs and Macs to PS3s, Xbox 360s and the latest connected TVs.”

Review: Western Digital My Passport Studio Portable Hard Drives Go High Class

We’ve been messing around with a damn fine looking set of portable hard drives for the past few days from Western Digital called My Passport Studio and My Passport Mac. They are encased in an all-aluminum shell, the My Passport Studio comes with two FireWire 800 ports as well as a Mini USB port around back; the latter only has a Mini USB port. The speed tests on these guys (see results below) was pretty average for 2.5-inch Firewire hard drives at just under 80MB/sec read, making the slight premium Western Digital is asking for these mostly “an aesthetic upgrade”.

…not that there is anything wrong with that. You can feel the quality in these drive enclosures. The aluminum shell is going to protect these from more drops than a plastic casing and these drives look the part of a high quality Mac setup. These drives are also so whisper quiet that the only way to know if they are running is the white LED on the back (much better than the front). As you can see from the pictures, both the Studio (formatted Windows) and Mac go well with a Unibody MacBook.

On the downside, these are slightly heavier than your typical hard drive at half a pound. Still though, that’s a small price to pay for quality. They are available now for $189.99 from Amazon for the Studio and $159 for the 1TB Mac

Press release follows:

Install Xxkg1 Android 2.3.4 Firmware/Rom For Galaxy S2 (Ii) I9100

Samsung’s done it again! The latest Android OS version 2.3.4 is now available for both Galaxy S handsets, the S1 (original Galaxy S launched last year) and the best android phone right now, the S2 (Galaxy S 2, or Galaxy S II as you like). It’s already been one month since Galaxy S got its Android 2.3.4 build with XXJVP Firmware but now Galaxy S 2 has also got the taste of the latest Android OS — heck even Google’s own nexus One phones are yet to get the Android 2.3.4. — blame the respective carrier!

People say things about TouchWiz that it’s the reason behind delays in update from Samsung but the company has just shown again that that’s not the case. Samsung has updated its devices to latest android version 2.3.4 even with custom UI TouchWiz atop, and that too, ahead of Motorola, HTC and LG and other Android phone manufacturers. So, next time you hear those things about TouchWiz, you can simply laugh it off and in fact, point the critics to this very page of S2’s Android 2.3.4 firmware XXKG1 (or to the latest Galaxy S Android 2.3.4 build – XXJVQ).

Those of you wishing to give Android 2.3.4 a try on S2 — which also brings in the Google’s talk application with support for video chat, and maybe that’s the only thing which sounds appealing apart form the 2.3.4 shine — check out the download and install instructions below. But some warnings and really important info about compatibility first, eh!

[info]This guide is applicable only for Samsung’s Galaxy S2 (S II) international version (i9100). Check your phone’s version in Settings – About Phone. It has to be “GT-i9100” for the XXKG1 firmware to be compatible with your device. If it’s not GT-i9100, simply don’t try this ROM on your android handset, don’t even think about it if you care not to brick your device.[/info]

Warning:

Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page. You only are responsible for your device. We wont be liable if any damage occurs to your device and/or its components.

Pre-Installation tips:

If you have Samsung’s PC software Kies installed, un-install it first because it may interrupt the flashing process.

Drivers! — it’s important you’ve the proper drivers installed. Download links below:

Installation guide for XXKG1 for Galaxy S2 GT-i9100

Video:

[youtube video_id=”DenoU04sEMo” width=”630″ height=”400″ /]

Step by Step Instructions:

Download the Android 2.3.4 Firmware – XXKG1. Filename: chúng tôi Size: 320.41 MB. Download Link.

Extract the downloaded file ‘i9100XXKG1.zip’ to get these 4 files:

CODE_I9100XXKG1_CL349526_REV02_user_low_ship.tar

GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKG1.tar

MODEM_I9100XXKG1_REV_02_CL1034110.tar

u1_02_20110310_emmc_EXT4.pit (we won’t be using it since it’s not essential for flashing the firmware. Read Step 13 below this to know more)

Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC.  Switch Off your phone. Wait for vibration to confirm complete switch off.

Now, put the Galaxy S2 in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: Volume_DOWN+Home+Power. this is required to install the XXKG1 using Odin PC Software.

Open Odin (from step 3) — Odin3 v1.85.exe.

Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added! !” under the Odin’s message box in the bottom left. If you don’t get this message, than probably there is a problem with drivers. make sure you’ve drivers installed.

Important! On Odin, Do NOT tick the ‘Re-Partition’ checkbox, but keep the ‘Auto Reboot’ & ‘F. Reset Time’ checkboxes ticked. Do not touch any other checkbox or tab or anything, except as required in step 9 below.

Select these files in Odin at respective tabs (check out the screenshot given at the top for help):

Double check everything said in step 8 and 9 above. [And, do not use the file in step 2.4 anywhere in Odin]. Your Odin’s window should look real similar to the image at the very top — which is my Odin’s screen while I flashed the XXKG1 on my Galaxy S.

Now, hit the START button to let the process begin. When process at Odin finishes your phone will automatically reboot — and you can unplug the cable then. Plus, you’ll get a PASS (with green background) message in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin. If it’s red and with FAIL written over it, the process flashing process wasn’t successful.

When it restarts, your Galaxy S2 will be running the latest Android OS, v2.3.4 with Samsung’s custom UI TouchWiz 4 atop it. Check out your S2’s android version here – Settings → About Phone.

About the .pit file (one you found in step 2.4). The .pit file re-partitions the phone’s internal memory space. You don’t need it often, that’s why we don’t use it generally. But if you are unable to flash the XXKG1 ROM successfully, you can try the whole process again but using the .pit file too this time. Important: When you use .pit file (ever!) you need to tick the Re-Partition checkbox too (which wasn’t the case earlier – check step 8 when we kept it un-ticked). So, if you are flashing the XXKG1 again, select the .pit file too (from step 2.4 ) in the PIT Tab together with all other files as said in step 9. Then, make sure the Re-Partition button is ticked too along with the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checkboxes — that is, all three checkboxes will be ticked if you use the .pit file.

(Optional, of course) If you found this guide useful, share it with others too on webpages, forums, your Facebook/twitter/Google+ pages, etc. That would be helping us grow too!

[info]This guide is applicable only for Samsung’s Galaxy S2 (S II) international version (i9100). Check your phone’s version in Settings – About Phone. It has to be “GT-i9100” for the XXKG1 firmware to be compatible with your device. If it’s not GT-i9100, simply don’t try this ROM on your android handset, don’t even think about it if you care not to brick your device.[/info]Warranty may be void of your device if you follow the procedures given on this page. If before flashing this, you had your phone rooted you would want the root back, right? Well, that’s very obvious. That’s why we’ll be posting a guide for that too in a couple of hours. Using the Chainfire’s CF-Root, one can flash a kernel using Odin and the phone is rooted. That is dead easy, all thanks to Chainfire !!!

Corsair K100 Rgb Firmware Update Failed

Many users are facing keyboard freezing, ghost typing, sudden volume changes, and such sort of issues rapidly in Corsair keyboards. These instances are mostly due to update failure and have agitated users. According to users, when they try to update to Corsair K100 RBGB Firmware they get Update failed error.

Why is my Corsair keyboard not updating?

Your Corsair keyboard app (iCUE) may not be updating due to some interfering RGB or monitoring apps or due to the keyboard being plugged into the wrong slots. The corrupted version of the software can also be one of the reasons why this is happening.

Fix Corsair K100 RGB Firmware Update Failed

If you are not able to update, then to resolve the Corsair K100 RGB Firmware update failed issue, execute the solutions mentioned below:

Close all the interfering apps from the background

Reset the keyboard

Switch the Keyboard plug to Motherboard’s USB slot

Install the update manually

Repair the iCUE app

Reinstall the iCUE app

Let’s discuss these solutions in a more detailed style.

1] Close all the interfering apps from the background

The first and foremost thing to check before updating the keyboard is to close all the RGB and monitor applications running in the background. They can interfere with the pp, and prevent it from downloading and updating it. So do the same, and check whether it is now updating or in the same condition.

2] Reset the keyboard

Remove the keyboard plug and let it be at rest for at least 2-3 minutes. Now plug the keyboard black while pressing the Esc key, and release it after 5 seconds. Your keyboard will flash, implementing that the procedure was successful. Now, see if you can update the firmware or not.

3] Switch the keyboard plug to the Motherboards USB slot

Sometimes, in a hurry, we plug the keyboard in the wrong slots, so before going further in this troubleshooting guide, make sure that the keyboard is plugged into the front or rear motherboard I/O USB slots. Once you have done that, open the iCUE software v4 or v5, and then try to update it now. Hopefully, the keyboard will be updated; if not, see the next solutions.

4] Install the update manually

There are various instances where software cannot detect updates, and in turn, fail to install and update the software to its latest version. In such instances, we can manually install and update the Firmware.

Before that, you need to download the following zip files from their respective URLs.

To manually update the keyboard, execute the steps mentioned below:

Download the zip files, cut off the Internet, and now plug the K100 RGB through a wired USB.

Launch iCUE, navigate to its settings, and switch the polling rate to 1000hz.

Select the Check for updates option present beside the firmware name, and the Failde status will appear on the screen.

And your keyboard will be manually updated. No update failed status on the screen. However, if it comes back after some time, follow the solutions mentioned below.

Read: Fix chúng tôi Blue Screen error

5] Repair the iCUE app

Any issues regarding the software can also stop its updating process, and the same can be said about Corsair software. Therefore, it’s better to rule out this mishap if the update failed.

6] Reinstall the iCUE app

If repairing the software can not help you in resolving the update failed status, then download a fresh installation of the app. To do so, follow the steps prescribed mentioned below.

Go to the Start menu and search Control Panel.

Delete it.

Select and delete the Corsair file here, reopen the Run dialogue box, and now type %localappdata%, and do the same.

For iCUE 3, go to C:Program Files x86, and for iCUE 4, C:Program Files, and again, delete the Corsair files.

Once more open the Run box, type Regedit, navigate to the following location, and find and delete the Corsair folder. HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftware

After this, go to the location mentioned below and delete the Corsair folder. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARE

Finally, reboot the PC, and then once it restarts, go to the iCUE download page and install it.

Check if the issue is resolved.

We hope that you can resolve the issue using the solutions mentioned in this article.
