Viral Marketing: What Is It And How It Works

Introduction: What is Viral Marketing?

It might be a brief message on your smartphone about a freshly released product, a news item (such as India winning the world cup), or a YouTube video that people share with other users.

Examples Hotmail ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is another illustration of how versatile viral marketing can be. The ice bucket challenge already existed before The ALS Association used it to increase donations and awareness. However, the widespread posting of ALS Ice Bucket films on social media generated a global sensation that significantly raised awareness of the disease.

Types of Viral Marketing Puzzles and Riddles

The most popular type of internet information sharing is blog postings. Even though some of it has the potential to go viral, the outcomes of other online content, such as quizzes and riddles, are as important to consider. Until you can solve it, it appears to be taunting you. These puzzles and riddles are more likely to be found on messaging apps like WhatsApp.

They can be used to entertain, engage, and educate the audience because they are brief, clear, and attention-grabbing. Infographics are a fantastic tool for obtaining high-quality backlinks. If you want to appeal to the eye, this format is excellent.

Motivational Content

Everyone needs something to motivate them to get up every morning, go to work, and work to improve every day in today’s fast-paced world. As a result, motivating posts are among the most prevalent types of material on YouTube, Reddit, Instagram, Facebook, and other social networking sites. They discuss positive behaviours, famous and wealthy people’s statements, proverbs, and other things that make the audience feel good.

People will relate to and desire to share content with others if it has a strong message that is motivating.

Personality Quizzes

‘Which Game of Thrones character are you?’ quizzes are likely to be taken by most of us.

These tests are being used as a kind of content marketing strategy. They draw a sizable crowd and serve a certain demographic. For instance, a questionnaire geared toward mothers would ask, “Which Celebrity mom are you like?”

Keep one thing in mind before you start to become enthusiastic. For your audience to believe the quiz results, they must be relevant and logical.

Just count how many times you see titles like “X Useful ideas for…” or “Y Hacks to make your life easy” as you navigate through your Facebook feed or YouTube recommended list.

Marketing professionals know that articles and videos with titles that begin with a number received more likes, views, and shares than their equivalents.

Case Studies

Readers like case studies because they are packed with data supported by research. People enjoy watching ideas and concepts in motion and are very interested in the outcomes.

How-To Guides

The majority of “how to” content adopts a problem-solution methodology. In fact, you’ll see that many search queries individuals enter when browsing the internet start with the word “how to.”

As a result, such information has a higher likelihood of turning up in Google search results. By doing this, you increase your organic search traffic.

Top Posts

Top postings frequently have the potential to become viral and can be a strong source of traffic. The top 15 recipes to amaze your visitors may have been in stories you have read. The word “top” in these names could mean “the best,” “most popular,” or “those with the best results.”

Long-form Content

According to Google, a piece of writing must be at least 1500 words long to rank highly in search results. It appears that your target audience wants in-depth, thoroughly researched articles. Long-form content still receives more shares despite a rise in short-form material due to short attention spans and increased mobile content consumption. The rationale for this is that your readers will consider a lengthy, well-researched piece as a reliable source of information.

Steps To Create A Successful Viral Marketing Campaign

While part of that may seem frightening, you should be relieved to know that there are viral marketing strategies available, and companies like the Harmon Brothers producing hit after hit offers us hope that we can also master the process.

The following are some essential considerations when creating your campaign.

Understand your target audience − This is marketing 101, but for a piece of content to become viral, it needs to be seen by the appropriate people. It all comes down to producing content that appeals to and emotionally connects with your audience.

Facilitate sharing − You shouldn’t merely provide content and hope that others will share it. Instead, take the initiative and incorporate sharing your content into your marketing. A referral scheme or the addition of share buttons to your blog article ar two examples of simple solutions.

Be aware of your objectives and keep them top-of-mind − Why are you launching this campaign or attempting to become viral? Is it to broaden your audience, raise awareness for a cause, improve your SEO, or perhaps it’s to publicise a specific occasion? As soon as someone notices you are paying attention, you may begin evaluating and streamlining each phase of the procedure.

Keep your message concise − A key component of any marketing strategy is straightforward, easily digestible material. Before you lose your audience’s interest, your content should be concise and to the point. You only have a few seconds to make an impression, so keep that in mind.

Pieces of viral material are uncommon − The unicorns of marketing, they are. They do, however, all have traits in common that raise their chances of being popular online. Let’s examine some of my favourite instances in greater detail and draw attention to the underlying marketing approach that contributed to their success.

Keep in mind that original, never-before-seen material is essential when establishing a viral marketing campaign. It ought to be captivating enough to draw in your viewers. They ought to be able to connect with the viral marketing’s central idea. You may plan the optimal moment to publish your material that will go viral and do so to quickly reach your target market.

What Is Monitor Ghosting And How To Fix It?

When you have monitor ghosting, it can feel like there’s a poltergeist within your screen determined to ruin your sweet PC time. This is especially true when it comes to gaming. It can throw you out of an MMORPG’s immersive world, make you miss your shots in an FPS, and leave you with little to no chance of ranking up in competitive play.

Luckily, to fix monitor ghosting you won’t have to hire an exorcist. Nor spend your life-savings on some holy water. Most solutions for monitor ghosting are relatively quick and easy.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through all the fixes. But first, we’ll cover what monitor ghosting is and what causes it.

Monitor ghosting is a type of distortion on your display where an image artifact or ghost image appears as a trail of pixels behind an object in motion. Put simply, it looks like a blurry ghost that follows something moving on your screen.

Here’s a video that shows how monitor ghosting looks:

Ghosting is most noticeable in gaming, since games are intensive and fast-paced.

A common misconception is that monitor ghosting, like dead pixels and screen burn-in, is a permanent problem that can’t be fixed. But you’ll be relieved to know that monitor ghosting isn’t a permanent issue.

Monitor ghosting occurs when your monitor has a slow response time or low refresh rate, and is struggling to keep up with everything that’s happening on your screen.

A whole range of things can cause this issue, but the most common include:

Poorly optimized monitor settings

Monitor interference

Overdrive configuration

Monitor’s specs

Outdated drivers

It can be difficult to tell if you have a monitor ghosting problem or something else on your hands. Luckily, there’s an easy way to test for monitor ghosting: simply run the Blur Busters UFO Motion Test.

The test will tell you if it detects any ghosting. You can even use it to detect other display-related problems, like frame skipping.

As we mentioned above, monitor ghosting is usually pretty easy and quick to fix – once you know how to go about it. Here, we’ll dive into the most common solutions for monitor ghosting.

The most common solution for fixing monitor ghosting is to turn on your monitor’s overdrive. This setting basically allows you to improve the response time speed.

To access overdrive (and turn it on), do the following:

Open up your monitor’s display menu – if you’re not sure how to do this, check the manual.

In the menu, look for the “overdrive” setting.

Switch on the feature, and it should now allow you to customize the overdrive level.

Gradually adjust the overdrive level. Use the monitor ghosting test to see the results.

Play around until you find the “optimal” result (as little monitor ghosting as possible).

More Tips

Keep in mind that overdrive is just one of many names for this setting. Your monitor’s manufacturer might call it something else, such as response time compensation.

You might be tempted to skip the last step and max out the overdrive setting to save yourself time and hassle. But we can’t stress this enough: maxing out overdrive often causes coronas (inverse ghosting). You’ll only be swapping one monitor issue for another.

Take it slowly and be patient while adjusting – it’s the best approach to find the optimal overdrive level.

Poorly optimized monitor settings can also contribute to monitor ghosting. As such, it’s worth playing around with the settings to see if it fixes or lessens the problem.

The settings we recommend adjusting include:

Dynamic Contrast / Contrast Enhance

Motion Smoothing

Noise Reduction

Perfect Clear

Black Equalizer

Motion Blur Reduction

Dark Stabilizer

Game Enhance Mode

Be aware that your monitor may have different names for these settings, and may not have them all.

If you have Nvidia, you can also try experimenting with the “noise reduction” and “G-Sync” options in the Nvidia control panel. If it’s AMD, try switching “FreeSync” on and off.

As always, don’t forget to test out any changes made (use the Blur Busters Motion Test).

Faulty or tangled-up cables can cause a whole host of performance problems and potentially interfere with your monitor.

Inspect connected cables for tears, bends, nicks and kinks. You can also run your palm across each cable to feel for any issues that can’t be caught with the naked eye.

If you don’t spot any problems, it’s still a good idea to troubleshoot by replacing each cable with a new one to make sure you haven’t missed anything. Obviously, this can get pretty expensive, so it’s a good idea to borrow someone else’s if you can.

Regardless of whether cables are to blame, we highly recommend investing in some cable protection measures to help them last longer and ensure issues won’t arise.

It’s worth moving any nearby devices away from your monitor to see if it makes a difference. Connected devices – and sometimes even wireless ones – can also cause interference, especially if they’re close to your monitor.

Make sure you’ve downloaded the latest drivers; out-of-date drivers almost always bring about performance problems. They also make your system more vulnerable to hacks and malicious software.

Updating your drivers can even help to prevent high ping and stuttering.

Have a high refresh rate but you’re still experiencing ghosting? Then it’s a good idea to check if your display is actually running at its highest refresh rate. Some monitors are set to a lower refresh rate by default.

Here’s how to check and change your monitor’s refresh rate:

A video port issue can also cause monitor ghosting. If the video port is faulty, you will need to send the monitor in for repairs or purchase a new one (see below).

If none of the above methods have worked, you’ll likely need to invest in a new monitor; your current monitor either has a fault, or it simply doesn’t have a good response time or a high enough refresh rate.

Here are the qualities you should look for when buying a new monitor:

Refresh rate: As a general rule of thumb, the higher the refresh rate, the better. The display will be able to update itself with a new image much more quickly. This gives smoother motion, and as a result reduces the chance of ghosting. 120Hz should work well, but if you intend to use the monitor for intensive tasks like editing or gaming, opt for 144Hz or higher.

Response time: The opposite rule applies for response time: the lower the number, the better. If you’re hoping to beat monitor ghosting once and for all – and want optimal gaming experience – go for a monitor with a response time under 5ms.

Input Lag: This is basically how fast your monitor registers actions. So again, the lower the better. High input lag makes for a sluggish experience.

You should also avoid VA panel types. We will discuss it further below.

While it’s possible to experience monitor ghosting on any monitor, VA panel types tend to be more prone to it. They have much slower response times.

Ghosting, while irritating, doesn’t cause any permanent damage to your screen. It can be minimized or eliminated completely with the methods above.

Besides inverse ghosting, several other issues share similar qualities to monitor ghosting. These include image retention, motion blur and burning.

Monitor ghosting can hinder your gaming experience in many ways. It can ruin a game’s visual looks, distract you from the action, and even impact your in-game performance. For example, if you’re playing a FPS, ghosting will make it harder to hit a moving target.

Samsung Galaxy Theme Store: What It Is And How To Use It

Joe Hindy / Android Authority

Samsung was one of the first OEMs to have a theme store. The company updated the store over the years and it helps one of the best experiences on any Android device. It even works with Android 13’s Material You theming in that Samsung doesn’t let the store affect Material You’s ability to operate. We’ll show you around the Samsung Galaxy Theme Store and show you how it works.

We wrote this article using a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. Your experience may vary depending on which version of Android and One UI your Samsung phone runs.

Read more: Samsung S Pen: The ultimate guide

Before you start – Make sure that you are logged into a Samsung account. Your Samsung account remembers prior purchases. You also need it if you decide to acquire any themes from the theme store.

Easiest method – Long-press an empty spot on your home screen and tap the Themes option.

Through the menu – Enter into your phone’s Settings menu, scroll down, and tap the Themes option.

That’s really all there is to it. Samsung made it very easy to access the theme store. However, you do need a Samsung account for the Theme Store for the same reason you need a Google account for the Google Play Store. Those who refuse to use Samsung accounts may not be able to utilize the Theme Store fully.

How to browse the Samsung Galaxy Theme Store

Joe Hindy / Android Authority

General navigation in Samsung’s Theme Store is pretty simple.

Bottom navigation – The bottom of the screen houses the five primary categories in the Theme Store. They include Themes, Wallpapers, Icons, AODs, and Menu.

The Menu section lets you view things like Events, previously purchased items, receipts, and you can manage your payment methods there. It also houses your recently viewed stuff, wish list, and a second Settings menu. The second Settings menu lets you control things like auto-updates, notifications, and more.

The above tools should help you easily navigate through the Samsung Galaxy Theme Store. It’s not a complicated piece of software, so there isn’t all that much to it.

How to buy and apply stuff from the Samsung Galaxy Theme Store

Joe Hindy / Android Authority

Buying stuff is also fairly simple on the Theme Store. You’ll need a Samsung account and at least one payment method. Luckily, it can pull your payment method from Samsung Pay, so you can set it up there if you so choose. You’ll also need a billing address. Samsung will stop you and make you do all three of those things before you can buy anything.

Find the theme, wallpaper, icon pack, or AOD theme you want to buy.

Select your payment method. I usually just use Samsung Pay.

You’ll load into another screen where you can verify with the total, including taxes.

Once you own the item, you can tap the Apply button. The method after that may change based on what you bought, but it’s fairly straightforward from there.

Please note – Free items don’t require a payment process. You simply tap the Download button to get to the Apply button.

You can also apply wallpapers from the wallpaper picker outside of the Theme Store. The same applies to AOD themes.

That should do it. You now have all the tools necessary to view, browse, buy, and apply stuff from the Samsung Galaxy Theme Store.

Up next: Samsung Pay: What is it, how does it work, and how do I use it?

It comes installed on any modern Samsung phone. You can read more about it here.

Updates should come automatically without any input from you. There is a setting in the Theme Store where you can control auto-updates for individual themes, icons, wallpapers, etc.

What Is Android Recovery Mode And How To Use It

What is Android recovery mode?

Android recovery mode is a unique startup mode available in all Android devices that provide a set of tools for diagnosing and resolving issues that cannot be addressed from within the operating system. This mode is typically used to perform system updates, factory resets, or install custom ROMs.

Commonly used for troubleshooting and maintenance, the recovery mode provides options like wiping data/factory reset, clearing cache partition, applying updates from ABD or SD cards, and more. In essence, recovery mode serves as a separate bootable partition that is essential for performing system-level tasks and making changes to the Android system’s file system.

How to boot your Android device into recovery mode

While most Android devices follow the process of holding the Power and Volume Down buttons to enter recovery mode, there are variations among manufacturers. We will cover the procedures for Samsung, Pixel, and Motorola smartphones.

Samsung Smartphones

Turn off your Samsung device.

Press and hold the Volume Up and the Power button simultaneously until the Samsung logo appears.

Release all buttons when the device vibrates once. The Android recovery mode menu should now appear.

Pixel Smartphones

Turn off your Pixel phone.

Once the screen goes black, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons together until you see the bootloader screen appear.

Use the Volume keys button to navigate to the Recovery Mode option and use the Power button to select it.

Motorola Smartphones

Power off your Motorola device.

Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons for a few seconds until the bootloader appears.

Use the Volume buttons to navigate to the Recovery option and select it using the Power button.

How to use Android recovery mode

Recovery mode offers several options for troubleshooting and device management. Let’s explore each function:

Reboot system now: This option allows you to exit the recovery mode without making any changes.

Apply update from ADB: This enables the installation of updates or custom ROMs via Android Debug Bridge (ADB) from your computer.

Wipe data/factory reset: This performs a factory reset, wiping all data and restoring your device to its original factory settings. It’s a handy feature when your device isn’t functioning correctly or before you give away or sell your device.

Wipe cache partition: This deletes temporary files that can be safely removed without losing any important data. It’s typically used to free up storage or troubleshoot problems caused by corrupted files.

Apply update from SD card: If you have an update file or a custom ROM on your SD card, you can use this option to install it.

How to exit recovery mode on Android

To exit recovery mode on Samsung, Google Pixel, or Motorola devices, navigate to the Reboot system now option using the Volume buttons for navigation and select it using the Power button.

To exit recovery mode, use the volume buttons to navigate to the “Reboot system now” option, then press the power button to select it. Your phone will then reboot back into normal operation.

Rebooting to recovery mode refers to restarting your Android device into a special mode (Recovery Mode) designed for troubleshooting and system updates. It’s a separate partition in the device’s memory that contains a lightweight Android OS version different from the main operating system. You can perform tasks like factory resets, clearing cache, or updating software.

No, entering Android recovery mode itself does not erase everything. It’s a troubleshooting interface with various options, one of which is Factory Reset. If you select the Factory Reset option, then yes, all data will be erased. But simply entering recovery mode will not erase anything.

Turn off your Samsung device. Then press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously. For older models (S10, Note 10, and older), press and hold the Power, Volume Up, and Bixby/Home buttons simultaneously. Release all buttons when the Samsung logo appears. The recovery mode menu should now appear.

If your device’s power button is not functioning, you can use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) commands to boot into recovery mode. You’ll need a computer with ADB installed and a USB cable to connect your phone to the computer to do this. Once connected, open a command prompt or terminal window and type the command: “adb reboot recovery.” Your phone should reboot into recovery mode.

Note: You must enable USB debugging on your phone for this method to work.
